Original plan for S9 (based on leaks) involved Discord, Celestia and Luna dying to bring balance and save Tree of Harmony. Discord resurrected villains and became Grogar to slow this process showing that Mane6 are still needed because he didn't want to leave Fluttershy. The ending actually involved villains beinf reformed while Celestia and Luna say her goodbye to Twilight while Discord has farewell with Fluttershy. Hasbro must had in the last moment dissagree on killing any character and Haber did minimal things to rewrite it to fit the narrative so he just made Discord act like retard to test Twilight while Celestia and Luna retire out of boredom

I kinda disagree on dragons and yaks originally being portrayed as just being different cultures before needing friendship lessons. Dragons especially were already seen as selfish and brutish right from the start.
