Smatran jednim od najboljih indonezijskih progresivnih rock bendova 70-ih godina, GIANT STEP debitirao je 1973. godine u Bandungu, gradu na otoku Javi koji se nalazi istočno od glavnog grada Džakarte. Ovaj bend osnovao je Benny Soebardja koji je bio jedan od najprepoznatljivijih glazbenika na cijeloj indonezijskoj rock sceni. Počeo je s ranim bendovima kao što su cover bend "The Peels", a zatim s bendom "Shark Move" koji su stvorili vlastite originalne skladbe, ali nakon šokantne smrti suosnivačice Woman Loebis u prometnoj nesreći, Soebardia je odlučila okončati Shark Move i započeti novi projekt. To je dovelo do prve formacije njihovog najpoznatijeg benda GIANT STEP koji se nadovezio na regionalni uspjeh Shark Movea, ali uz pomoć britanskog lirika Boba Dooka, bend je počeo dodavati engleske tekstove svojim djelima.
GIANT STEP objavio je svoj debitantski album "Mark I" 1975. godine, ali nije uspio stvoriti koherentan zvuk dok se vrpoljio poput bezglave piletine počevši od izvrsnog hard rocka, a zatim prelazeći na folk-nadahnuti rock s dodatnom devolucijom na nešto što izgleda kao otrcana indonezijska svadbena glazba. Album je bio u kaosu i bend se vratio na ploču za crtanje i izbrusio svoje glazbeno umijeće. Dok su jake melodične kuke već bile u pitanju jer je Soebardia imala smisao za instant earworms, pažljiva izrada kompozicija nije. Drugi album Giant ON THE MOVEa je mjesto gdje je sve sjelo na svoje mjesto. To je uglavnom zbog činjenice da su, osim Soebardje na vokalu i gitari i Alberta Warnerina na gitari, ostala tri člana benda bila nova. Basist/flautist Adhy Haryadi, bubnjar Janto Soedjono i klavijaturist/gitarist Deddy Dores očito su bili iskusniji glazbenici do zadatka stvaranja složenijih glazbenih treninga. Ladislav i Živanović

Ce groupe a été fondé par Benny Soebardja qui a été l’un des musiciens les plus reconnus de toute la scène rock indonésienne. Il a commencé avec les premiers groupes tels que le groupe de reprises « The Peels » puis avec le groupe « Shark Move » qui a créé ses propres compositions originales, mais après la mort choquante de la cofondatrice Woman Loebis dans un accident de voiture, Soebardia a décidé de mettre fin à Shark Move et de commencer un nouveau projet. L’album était un gâchis et le groupe est retourné à la planche à dessin et a perfectionné ses compétences musicales. Alors que les crochets mélodiques forts étaient déjà en jeu car Soebardia avait un don pour les vers d’oreille instantanés, la fabrication minutieuse des compositions ne l’avait pas été. Le deuxième album du groupe GIANT ON THE MOVE est l’endroit où tout s’est mis en place. Cela venait en grande partie du fait qu’en plus de Soebardja au chant et à la guitare et Albert Warnerin à la guitare, les trois autres membres du groupe étaient nouveaux. Le bassiste / flûtiste Adhy Haryadi, le batteur Janto Soedjono et le claviériste / guitariste Deddy Dores étaient clairement des musiciens plus expérimentés à la hauteur de la tâche de créer des entraînements musicaux plus complexes.Ladislav&Zivanovic

The album was a mess and the band went back to the drawing board and honed their musical skills. While strong melodic hooks were already at stake as Soebardia had a knack for instant earworms, the careful fabrication of the compositions had not. Giant ON THE MOVE's second album is where everything fell into place. This was largely due to the fact that in addition to Soebardja on vocals and guitar and Albert Warnerin on guitar, the other three members of the band were new. Bassist/flutist Adhy Haryadi, drummer Janto Soedjono and keyboardist/guitarist Deddy Dores were clearly more experienced musicians up to the task of creating more complex musical trainings.
