getting any kind of error on a video game as a kid can be so dang frightening- i used to also fear the warnings on DVDs honestly 😵‍💫

Really love how Sony decided to make the scariest sounds imaginable and just put them on their console without a care in the world, casually traumatizing millions of kids.

This is one of the scary moments of nostalgia that you will never forget. When you stumble across this for the first time you get frightened and afraid your ps2 won't work again

I personally had an Xbox, but I was rather fascinated by the ambient sounds of the dashboard. It was the THX logo that frightened me. I remember when I was very little, I wanted to watch Cars. The logo started playing, I pressed pause and I went and begged my mom to get out of bed to watch it with me because I was too scared to watch it alone. I ended up playing it by myself, and that somehow sparked my obsession with scary things. I now absolutely love horror movies 😂

I never really got scared of the sound effects but rather the consequences of console errors. I haven’t had a PS2 RSOD (yet) but I’ve had moments where other consoles wouldn’t work and it would stir up my anxiety even if it didn’t have any scary sounds

I never had a PlayStation, but this reminds me of how much I hated the menus of DVD movies, the music, there’s something about it, it’s so eerie, so when my mom would let me watch a movie before bed I ALWAYS tried to sleep during the movie, so I didn’t have to sleep with the weird menu.

Fact: if I remember correctly the bars in the PS2 opening sequence are actually the games the users played, the higher the bars the more you’ve played them.

Perhaps the most startling error message I’ve seen on a console would be the GameBoy Player error when a cartridge is removed while it’s running. Still startles me to this day.
