L'obscure perle française est née à Lyon en 1972. L'Amphyrite Trio n'a sorti qu'un seul album rare en 1973 avec seulement 200 exemplaires, qui a été réédité en 2003 et 2010, encore une fois avec un nombre limité d'exemplaires. Sans succès, le groupe se termine à la fin de la même année.
L'homonyme de 1973 apporte un mélange typique de l'ère du rock psychédélique "fuzado" et acide avec des éléments de progressif et quelques moments difficiles et expérimentaux. Les 7 morceaux sont instrumentaux, il y a la présence d'un trio basique guitare/batterie/basse, avec quelques bons solos de chacun d'eux.
Rien d'extraordinaire ou de très différent, mais de bons jams se font entendre. Pearl est recommandé pour ceux qui aiment le rock instrumental et psychédélique des années 70.
