1:08 THAT PART!!! Such a bliss, with that bass, the ambient synths in the background, and the starry melodies! Whoaaaah oh my god but this is AMAZING!!! I love it so so much... Totally hitting in my weak spots... I should check out the original. Also some of the melodies on the synths remind me of OST music (again). Hay, the whole thing feel very OST-like. Like a field theme in a J-RPG, for a map where you would explore around, and there are monsters spawning on the map... Maybe something like a Grandia game, or a Magna Carta game... Aaaa I can so imagine myself playing it while this song is playing. This is my kind of field theme!! Energetic, melodic, progressive, and using instruments that you normally wouldn't put together, so it feels unique... The very "rock music" bass here combined with all the synths in the soundscape, and the melodic parts coming one after the other, is amazing. It works soooo well. Ok, listening to the original now from the band Propaganda... I didn't know of that band, but I LOVE songs from the 80s, and I often listen to such songs that feel so nostalgic for some reason, even though that's an era I didn't even live in (I was born in 1990). Ok, finished listening to it. Well. I prefer your version :D The original song is good and I can see how you got inspired by it and how you're calling back to it for sure, but I love your instrumental cover even more, that would fit so well as a field theme in some OST. This goes straight to my favorites. Really loving your musical style and inspirations <3 Awesome work on this, and thanks for sharing the love for that era!! Keep it up!
PS: I notice this got re-uploaded and this version actually sounds different, maybe some different synths/sounds were used? I just happened to be around when the first version got uploaded, and had already saved it, so I can compare the 2 versions now. And luckily I didn't submit my comment yet, haha XD I might actually prefer the first version, but both sound awesome :)
Aww! Thanks <3 Field theme Yes! I was introduced to this band by a scool friend long ago that knew I liked this type of sound. Propaganda just made "one" real record with this production style, the rest is not the same at all. It was just the right time with the kind of samples and like you said unusual, combination of sounds in a strange musical combination. Sampling was new, memmory on the equipment was limited and so was sound quality. But with a monster studio setup and massive effects it sounded completely new and stylish. The jazzy scales combined with massive chord beds, Fairlight samples floating in long tail reverberation. It's cool, musical and nothing we hear of today any more. Haha I love how you listen to the original while writing, that's cool. Well everything in my song is just a try to copy that original. But I don't know, it's hard to compete with an high end super high cost studios sound from that era. But fun to try! Happy that you like my "old" band taste. Same goes for me, I can listen to so many old bands from long before I was born too. And there is so much good music from today also. Every song can be ponyficated if we use our imagination creatively.
I was sure the "swap" of the songs would be unnoticed and there was no views shown? But yes, your right! The first one was way better. Thank you for comparing and listening <3 I have uploaded the first one too.
Cool live version, sadly in mono. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3B_f1lHKODE playing live on a backtrack with a stiff dead audience Hahaaa. And yaay he's beating the shit out of that poor xylophone! 80s was weird, but cool!
