I almost started crying watching this. This exact thing happened to me. My entire childhood ended in January 2019.

That hurt the very core of my soul, and I don't have a soul. I don't cry that much, so when this made me cry, you know that was a big deal. Rip Wii servers, you were amazing, and we'll never forget you.

Ah man I remember Mario kart wii, the funnest one because I mean, those tricks, also it was a sad time when Nintendo WFC was shut down.

Man, this is nostalgic!

I remember participating in the tournaments they'd post just because it was a completely different experience that was fun to try out. Young me didn't care if I ranked high or not, I just played them for fun. My favorites were always the "finish the course backwards as fast as possible" events. And around the time I moved in and got a Wii for my 8th birthday that included Mario Kart, that got people's attention. Once all the neighborhood kids realized "Hey, he has a Wii and Mario Kart, lets see if we can visit and hang out with him!", every day was a blast back then!

I also remember my dad and his friends would come over and say "Mario Kart has online now? Thats innovative, I wish we had that back then!" and similar things like that while they jammed out to music or played billiards.

Man, time flies by without even knowing it. I can't believe it's been that long ago.

For a bit I thought the sad part was that he was using an outside drifting bike, then I thought that he was gonna get comboed. Then I thought the sad part was a simple disconnection, then I realized what really happened.

Yup I remember this. Everybody Votes Channel, Check Mii Out Channel, Nintendo Channel, Forecast Channel and News Channel all stopped working. Online play for most games was impossible at this point. It really was a said day. I still have my Wii to this day and I still use it. Still one of my favorites. However because of wiimmifi and RiiConnect24 many people were able to relive their childhood which I honestly think is amazing.

I had the same feeling except it was whenever i played the pizza parlor game in club penguin and like since we had those big crappy computers the mouse would go anywhere on the screen and sometimes it went to the top right corner to the exit button. There’s a mod made by MrBean35000vr which allows you to play multiplayer even after the shutdown, and it’s got a lot of players using it all the time! Keeping the online community alive even after all these years since the shutdown.
The mod requires no downloads, just altering your DNS in the settings. Here’s a link to his video explaining how to use the mod:

there are still ways to play online without having to use a computer to access wiimmfi, first is you go on the internet channel on your Wii, put in the website chadsoft.co.uk/wiimmfi and once you get onto it you can add the website as your favorite, back out fo the website and launch it from your favorites and it will boot up whatever game you have and connect it to wiimmfi, you will need to go onto it every time you want to play online however
