Question: what would be the best option for windows 7 these days for it to be secure? Would this be a better OS or should I just go with Ubuntu/linux? I kno it's already risky cuz they no longer care about windows 7 but is there a way to keep a laptop as safe as possible? I kno Crypto has some good ideas, I'm ready to even pay for the best, I'm already willing to factory reset it if needed, its gonna be my scrap-top to basically fuck around with and learn on. Anyone have good suggestions? Much obliged.
Pop!_OS is based on Ubuntu and therefore works the same way. Most Ubuntu instructions also work on Mint, Elementary, and Pop. Linux Mint looks and feels more similar to Windows 7, and so I would go with that. In general tho, which distro u use doesnt matter. Theyre all Linux based, and so all work pretty much the same.
the same used to happen for me, so I installed the AMD/Intel version of pop os and installed nvidia drivers and the xanmod kernel from "The Ultimate Linux Gaming Guide" on christitus.com
You could try Manjaro. They are among the best for providing easy installation of non-free drivers like Nvidia. They also have a Gnome DE if it's what you are interested in.
Mx Linux is a great distro, but both are really distros. Mx offers XFCE and soon KDE, while POP is shipping with GNOME. Mx is based on Debian while POP is based on Ubuntu. Mx use SysV and not SystemD. Mx use Grub and not SystemD Boot.
Those are all important things that makes them really different. They are both great, but they are not targeting the same peoples. I would even say machines since Mx is one of the few still offering a 32 bits versions which works wonderfully by the way.
