All three versions of "Shatter" are pretty good and they all represent different versions of Pinkie's conflict with her darker half, Pinkamena (you could even say that they all form some sort of musical trilogy). The original sounds like Pinkie slowly becoming aware of her insanity and giving in to it a little bit; fittingly, it's slow, atmospheric, and has a steady build-up. "Shatter 2.0" sounds like Pinkie starting to deal with Pinkamena, but the frantic nature of the theme suggests that Pinkamena has the upper hoof, so to speak. This last version is the final confrontation between Pinkie and Pinkamena, combining the atmosphere of the original with 2.0's more chaotic nature and then marrying it with a semi-industrial feel to craft a scene of tension and suspense that will ultimately decide the fate of Pinkie's mind and well-being.
Actually, dBPony mentioned in an Interview on EFN today something about why sometimes people like the older less-mastered songs instead of the much more professionally remastered ones, and that really is the nostalgia factor =P
When People hear and like a song, they tend to listen to it a lot, getting use to the sound and noticing all the little things that makes it such an enjoyable song for them. When a musician remakes that song, often (though not all the time) while it may be produced much better, people cannot get into it right away because it sounds so different from the sound that they had already gotten used to.
Its like if you made a meal that everybody really likes, and then as you become a better cook, try to revisit and rewrite the ingredients in that meal to make it better. The meal itself may be better prepared and more expertly made, but people will still always be a little iffy at what it tastes like, since its changing something that they have enjoyed for a long time.
dBPony actually spoke a lot about how he mastered the guitars HORRIBLY in his song 'Wonderbolt', and yet every time he asks people to compare his original version with the remastered version he keeps around, they all say they like the original version better, because that is the version of the song they fell in love with, mistakes and all.
That being said, I was never the biggest fan of your first interpretation of "Shatter", I thought it was good, but I never thought about putting it on my iPod. So listening to it now, I do very much see a big improvement in how you produced this track compared to the last one, and now I am finding myself liking this track a LOT more then before.
So don't fret too much about it =) You really have improved a lot between the two tracks, but those who liked the first song, are always going to have that special place in their heart for the original version that draws them to it ;)
I will need to play both versions a few times more to get a better view of this, but so far the original one has some ,,crude appeal" points to it. That might be just me needing to get used to this one, though.
But yes, the original still seems a bit more emotionally direct through its simplicity. Here I slightly get the feeling that the main spirit of the song gets a bit buried under the glitter, especially later on.
Well that sucks to hear. I could not do what I wanted with the gear I had back when the original Shatter was produced. I thought revisiting and revising these old songs would be a huge treat to whoever is still following me.
this made me play the Shatter 2 song, too, and... well, so far I am liking that one, with its funny-different, beat-driven approach still a bit more than this one.
But it may have something to do with the different-ness of this one, and... while not able to replace the original Shatter for me, it might have its place.
Point is, that original one might seem unpolished to you, and it probably somewhat is... but it's still really damn good in just what it is.
I really enjoy this version, but I do enjoy the original a bit more, and I think I know why. You mention that the original was crudly produced, and i think that worked in your favor. The gritty creepy vibe i get from the song is, I believe, enchanced by the crude nature. You almost feel like you're in an abandoned warehouse watching supernatural ponies enacting your nightmares around you with the original. The new version is still good mind you, just in a different sense that, to me at least, doesn't fit as well with the creepy grit. I hope this makes sense, and I look forward to hearing more from you!
Hmn. I enjoy this one a lot. I've enjoyed all versions. I think I prefer the 2nd one a little more, but that's not because this one isn't as good. Simply, this one doesn't quite hit the emotions with me as much as the previous one. Basically just a reflection of my own personal taste.
While remakes of the same song, each one has a different feel about it. Awesome job making each fun in it. The only complaint I might have is the after-song bit there, and again just a personal grievance, makes it a little jarring to use in a playlist on YT for music listening. I've not downloaded / listened to MP3s in a long time, using YT as a music player when needed. >.>
I love this song, I really do. I even listen to this song while I am listening to things other than pony stuff. But I have to say that this newer version just doesn't click like the oldest version does. You added in a lot of new techno beats, and the orchestral tracks seemed to have taken a back seat. Your tunes like Shatter (1), Spellcaster and PrimEvil are top of the charts mind blowingly good. These VIPs and remakes just don't have the hard hitting emotional feel that those do. It's still an awesome song though, and I am always looking forward to new stuff.
I really like this. It's more melodic? musical? I guess than the original, which will probably work for some people and less for others. But there certainly sounds like a lot more technical focus and maintenance in this one, because everything sounds pretty in sync and balanced.
General consensus of what I'm seeing is that this was definitely made better, but well made, refined music doesn't fit as well with the idea this is supposed to invoke. But no one denies this was made better.
I personally prefer the original Shatter at some points. I listened between the two songs and I honestly can't say EXACTLY why I prefer the first over this one, but I definitely think it has something to do with how the vocals sound a bit more muffled out in the first version. I don't know why, but I like it that way.
During my experimentation with the two songs, I managed to play the two together at the near same time and had an eargasm... So there's that.
Man I love all 3 Versions of this song! My favorite would have to be the second, I love the first one and I love this one but... it just sounds... busy... to me I guess. Still love it though... ah heck I love all 3 and that's all there is to it!
Now, I'm not a pegasister or anything, but this is glorious. The mixing is well done, and not to mention that it actually sounds clearer then the original, which I personally love. The only thing I have a problem with is the high voice that goes with it, I must admit, it's a nice touch, but I can't hear what she's saying, and it's a bit annoying how high it is. But nonetheless, this is amazing all the same. Keep up the fantastic job, and I plan to see your upcoming mixes soon.
I definitely like this version as it DOES sound cleaner, but as @TolianTiger said, the sound of the original was so dirty and raw (like a diamond in the rough) that it fit with the general insanity of the song... How I immediately thought of it is that the original is a patient before being put into an insane asylum, but this is after they've gone through a bit of therapy.
Idk what drugs others are on. This version has a different atmospheric feel, but it is most certainly better imo. I feel it fit the word "shatter" a lot more as well.
I prefer "Shatter 2" out of the three versions. The original just wasn't as exciting, and this one, while more sophisticated, lacks the raw energy of the previous version. It just sounds like a different song altogether.
And ofc I missed downloads ^__^ Oh well, will listen it here then. Tried all versions, this one is the most enjoyable for me. Keep up with the great work!
Wait, so a remake of a song that got a remake? So many remakes. I'm liking this though! Sheesh I'm gonna have 3 different versions of this song on my flashdrive.
Hmm. Feels...slower. Shatter (1) had a sense of urgency that kind of made sense. Pinkie felt afraid, fighting against herself that she was deathly afraid of letting any bit of it out. Jekyll Hyde thing. Not sure if its just me or not. Still pretty good, though.
@Appletank8 At first I thought the same, but I took the time to actually compare the different versions of the songs, and he is write. This version is much better.
"goes to download stem-pack from original, finds invalid or deleted data" DRAT, Totally wanted to remix this :(. Oh well, still an amazing track though, your remake definitely shows better instrumentals, even if the opening rift seemed looped for a bit too long in my opinion. Still, it's definitely an improvement, but both are amazing. Great work!
Shatter! Remake! The 3rd! I like it! Better than the first too, even though it's the same thing as the last two, only a hell of a lot better, and makes me smile.
I like the original, 2.0 and this remake all equally. I'm sorry that you didn't like the original. But why do I liike the original (as well as the others.) It's just that each version has it's own set of sounds that I like. Sorry I can't be more descriptive with this but I hope the feedback helps.
It was awesome, but not as good as the first one for some reason, the first one felt a little darker and raw somehow. Don't get me wrong, this is still amazing, but a little too shiny for me. Just an opinion.
Sounds almost like you're saying That all Non-Bronies that find it would dislike it, I'm A Non-Brony(Was a Brony at one point) And i found this song recently, And i really like it, I know your comment isn't implying everyone who isn't a brony wouldn't like it, but i still felt the need to say, that just cuz people aren't bronies, doesn't mean they Don't still Like the songs, xD
Yeah thought that Lol xD cuz lots of people are Close-minded idiots who don't want to see WHY people are Bronys or understand The Community, They just Chose to Troll That Community insted.
It doesn't fit in with normal society behavior, basically, pop-popculture lol. So people just simply try to gear towards something more popular, even if its not right.
I've read a lot of these comments and I'm gonna tell all u what my mom tells me "if u don't have anything nice to say don't say it" and the creator of this song I'm sorry 4 all the people hating on ur song
@CrazyCucco Hi. This song actually doesn't have lyrics in normally way. But! There is one video similar to this with parts of word that were used. Its: Flutterwonder [PonyDub] from Rabies Bun, this is link to background music free version: watch?v=lW9UIlIaZKY I hope I helped you. Let me know :) have a nice day
