@@adumbfuk Only if I run it as an administrator. I haven't found the perfect way to make my pc look entirely like windows xp, but I'd say it looks 60% like it. One solution would be to dual boot windows xp and 11, but it is too hard for me, perhaps I'll try it, who knows.

I still use Windows 95, although its a pain Installing drivers, its more reliable than Windows 11, which because of all the bloat running, managed to heat my laptop up and burn the screen whenever I'd close it.

Pagefile is necessary, it's kind of swap file but for Windows. If a user exceeds maximum RAM cache, Windows can offload by writing RAM content to pagefile which will free up RAM, and for constrained memory usage, it's unlikely you'd know when Windows will crash in low memory.
This of course can't be use for daily purpose but a good experiment.
Pagefile isnt neccessary, programs write in virtual memory without having a physical memory close to full, take a look at chromium browsers, u will be surprised.

My main goal when messing with windows is to minimize RAM usage without breaking any Important features and making programs work normally. My lowest is 0.6gb of ram

But most of the size reduction are from removing the pre-installed Microsoft apps (OneDrive, Bing, News, Weather, and some more) and also removing some specified telemetry that are used for collecting user data and showing ads on start menu & search bar (removing those telemetry will remove the widget as well)

@@3RR0RNULL Normal linux is not 100-200 megabytes. I guess iso's of most popular linux distros are around 1,5GB - 4GB, and after instalation it is bigger. But you can find these extreamy small linux distros. I will list a few: - tiny core and its variants: last I chcked it was between 30 and 300 MB, but it is not really suited for somewhat standard use of PC, - slitaz: I loved firs look of this distro: around 50 MB iso and inside 32bit and 64bit veraion (there are smaller iso's with for example 64bit only) and not bad desktop enviroment. But it is wiredly outdated to my knowledge: there are still recently generated iso's but a lot of stuff is very old so it is not really usable - puppy linux: probably one of the best, around 300-600MB, but at now it is not yet updated to new base of ubuntu (but it is still on maintained lts veraion, and there are also other bases like void linux), - slax: also one of the best option I guess, around 350-400MB, but it is based on fully finctioning debian (I guess) and default desktop looks kinda cool. Main advantage is that you probably can actually use it as a normally functioning linux distro and install whatever you want, because it is basically very small debian. (There is also slackware version, but that might be harder to use)
There are also many others: debian dog, fatdog64, weedog, porteus, if you want to tweak it yourself maybe even alpine linux, void linux, arch linux, (OpenSUSE ?).
But one of the smallest operating systems that I know, which is also in some way (but not very much) functional and interesting is KolibriOS, which is not based on linux, but written in assembly
It all depend what you want from your pc, in my expectations probably wins slax, although, I never used these systems as daily driver, and I only used them for testing. Also most used by me distro out of all of these small distros was probably puppy linux
I've been using Windows 11 (Lite-TWP Bypass) on a dual core 1.6 ghz and 4gb of ram , 60 gb ssd storage over sata 3. will run very light titles and mobile games, emulation and can barely get on the web and get around .
This is Windows 10, just modified; Windows is the same, even the most stripped down; another start button and task manager; my friend also had the same Windows 10

I suggest that you delete temp files, empty the recycle bin, delete unnecessary files (duplicates, personal items that don't mean much, etc.), and stuff that like that.

Your CPU has extra load put on it whenever you open a compressed file because it has to extract it every single time- So it can potentially slow your computer down depending on how low spec it is
VMWare Tools doesn't really give my windows 11 vm the rounded corners instead i have to use a registry tweak in the vm and then i restart the vm. Not only does it apply rounded corners but it also apply's the mica effect.
You missed out trying the CompactOS command that compresses system files, if Compact.exe is not in this system, try doing it from PE and see if it boots

Isn't it funny how Windows needs over 1 GB of RAM just to boot properly, whereas other OSs like OSs that use the BSD kernel and the Linux kernel only need a small amount of RAM to work perfectly.
I mean a minium install of debian with qemu-kvm is technicallity the closest you could run an old version of windows on new hardware as csm was removed on cpu's post 2019. It should however be possible to pass through pci-e to pci converters to have an old quadro that was reflashed into being a consumer nvidea card on w98se. I'm pretty sure w98se with kernel ex can use the opengl dll from mesa3d llvm from the same place you can get wined3d for windows, that plus a d3d-opengl wrapper (wined3d) should in theory be possible to get dx11 software rendered on w9x. Its a theory since i only tested it in wxp and 2k with onecore api.
This isn't a stripped-down version, it's completely gutted with missing limbs. I honestly don't know who'd want let alone need to run such a skeleton OS. It's barely usable, which apps can run on it? And I thought Pico 11 was the bare minimum...sheesh!

Makes no sense to do this. At some point the system will throw blue screens or even boot loop. Seen it for myself happen on a few systems. Windows Is a ram hog with all the telemetry and no matter if you turn off all you can there will still be some running and sending crap to Microsoft.
Try adding DLLs back in from Wine/Proton and see how much can be made to work again that way hah. Wine doesn't have a network stack though really, so that couldn't be brought back that way.

If I'm being completely honest, I would use Tiny11 and install Rectify11, then dig for the old Windows 10 remanets. This build is so crippled its unusable.

7 likesPagefile is necessary, it's kind of swap file but for Windows. If a user exceeds maximum RAM cache, Windows can offload by writing RAM content to pagefile which will free up RAM, and for constrained memory usage, it's unlikely you'd know when Windows will crash in low memory.

Pagefile isnt neccessary, programs write in virtual memory without having a physical memory close to full, take a look at chromium browsers, u will be surprised.

But most of the size reduction are from removing the pre-installed Microsoft apps (OneDrive, Bing, News, Weather, and some more) and also removing some specified telemetry that are used for collecting user data and showing ads on start menu & search bar (removing those telemetry will remove the widget as well)

2 likes@@3RR0RNULL Normal linux is not 100-200 megabytes. I guess iso's of most popular linux distros are around 1,5GB - 4GB, and after instalation it is bigger. But you can find these extreamy small linux distros. I will list a few:
0 likes- tiny core and its variants: last I chcked it was between 30 and 300 MB, but it is not really suited for somewhat standard use of PC,
- slitaz: I loved firs look of this distro: around 50 MB iso and inside 32bit and 64bit veraion (there are smaller iso's with for example 64bit only) and not bad desktop enviroment. But it is wiredly outdated to my knowledge: there are still recently generated iso's but a lot of stuff is very old so it is not really usable
- puppy linux: probably one of the best, around 300-600MB, but at now it is not yet updated to new base of ubuntu (but it is still on maintained lts veraion, and there are also other bases like void linux),
- slax: also one of the best option I guess, around 350-400MB, but it is based on fully finctioning debian (I guess) and default desktop looks kinda cool. Main advantage is that you probably can actually use it as a normally functioning linux distro and install whatever you want, because it is basically very small debian. (There is also slackware version, but that might be harder to use)
There are also many others: debian dog, fatdog64, weedog, porteus, if you want to tweak it yourself maybe even alpine linux, void linux, arch linux, (OpenSUSE ?).
But one of the smallest operating systems that I know, which is also in some way (but not very much) functional and interesting is KolibriOS, which is not based on linux, but written in assembly
It all depend what you want from your pc, in my expectations probably wins slax, although, I never used these systems as daily driver, and I only used them for testing. Also most used by me distro out of all of these small distros was probably puppy linux

Your CPU has extra load put on it whenever you open a compressed file because it has to extract it every single time- So it can potentially slow your computer down depending on how low spec it is
