As a Spike fan, I must say this is one of the best Spike's episodes of the series. I thought a lot of times Spike is relatable in some ways, and this episode really makes a great job showing that. ^w^
This episode was the cringiest for me for awhile. It took a long time before I could watch the whole thing. I relate to Spike soooo much, I still feel awful for screwing up stuff that happened decades ago. :P I do love the lesson, though, as it's totally true.
The equestria games was built up for a while, so I was expecting it to be a bit bigger than this, likely saved for a finale, but I'm not disappointed with what we got. The writers had a hard time getting me invested in Spike, but he really won me over as time went on.
This is one of those episodes that hits too close to home. It's really cool they portray that lack of self worth in a kid's show, because that's exactly how it feels. All the praise means nothing if you can't feel it inside.
Whatever else is said about the episode, and cheesy or not, it's a valuable lesson. Everybody's screwed up on a scale like this at one time or another. It is really really hard sometimes to bounce back from that. Pushing the past into the past is often necessary to do the 'next thing' right.
3:24-3:38 He sounds like the best kind of friend you could ask for! TwiLestia is always a treat ;)
Also, when I watched this episode on my own last night, at 13:27 and 19:29 I said the exact same things to myself. I think we must have some sort of psychic link or something!
I have to mute the Cloudsdale Anthem. It's a good episode overall - especially how Spike saves the Crystal Empire from a tragedy akin to the Munich Massacre in 1972, but that really does not go well for me.
Although I liked this episode overall I didn't appreciate how they made Spike so dumb as to think he's pyrokinetic.also when he was dumb and tried to sing the cloudsdale anthem was just painful to watch.
PonyBro I Guess Ah. I’ve never heard of the Ranger Challenge team, so I had no idea what you might have been talking about. I’m not a military guy, myself
No, I am captain of the Ranger Challenge team, which is what cadets can join. It's similar to Ranger in terms of what we do, but actual Ranger school is much more intense

What makes it even more funny is it was all improv.

Legend has it that every time that part of the episode is watched, Kathy Weseluck wakes up in the middle of the night screaming.
