What if the reason Sunburst was kicked out of magic school was because he helped Sunset while he was there? Celestia found out but because she understood he was manipulated by his sister, she just expelled him from school and sent him to study magic alone in the Crystal Empire.

Well.. in season 6 episode 2 (The Cristalling - part 2) Cadance stated that, I quote
„Sunburst? I don’t recognize the name..”

If Celestia truly sent Sunburst to the Crystal Empire and gave him access to the mirror, i think Cadance would know about that, and even if it was a secret mission, she would know about it.. it’s her castle after all..

But who knows? Maybe she said it to keep the secret.. well.. secret..

Everyone might hate me for this but I still refuse to believe that flash helped sunset in the heist cause he’s too much of a good guy, yes he’s awkward at times, and was a butthole to twilight in rainbow rocks “when he was under the siren’s spell” but to me he’s an interesting character

Hmm….so you know the episode where sunburst and starlight go back home and they find out about how Stella is trying to change the town to make it more modern. Well maybe it’s because she was forced to look upon the town each day being reminded of the day celestia turned up to the door and delivered the news, so one day she decided the turn the town modern.

I loved the headcanon story you have, Sawtooth. It's very well put together and extremely well thought out. I definitely think this is what could have happened and I accept this headcanon without question.

Geez. Every video of yours I watch always has some level of plausibility to it, some much more so than others (I'm absolutely aboard the 'Sunburst and Sunset are siblings' boat). This is one that I definitely COULD see, but I feel like Sunburst is too awkward and reclusive of a character to pull this off. Yeah, you could say he becomes that way AFTER his hypothetical mission fails and he loses his determination, but from what I've personally seen, people with a level of determination that you say Sunburst would've supposedly had initially would take a LONG time to become as reclusive as Sunburst was characterized to be when we first met him. And even though the Crystal Empire's reemergence (when Sunburst would go on his mission) and when we first meet Sunburst in season 6 were released three years apart—and given how episodes and seasons work that could be anything between 3 and 5 years in-show—I still think that really isn't enough time between those events for Sunburst to become that much of a recluse. He was most likely already like that. You did say he probably would've been studying the Crystal Empire's magic anyway if he HADN'T had this mission— that was likely the case.
But that's just my take. Like I said, I COULD see this happening, and it would make an AWESOME Alt-U fanfic, but I think Sunburst would have needed to be characterized as a bit less reclusive for it to well and truly work.

I thought from the title and how celestia broke the news to the family, sunburst would grow spiteful of celestia and once he found out about her and the mirror he would be the one to purposefully help her with her plan

This is a very good theory and I really like the possibilities it displays,there's just one tiny problem. We all know the story: When Sunset began running out of pages in her book to Twilight,she was was told to return to Equestria for a new one. Once she arrived she was greeted by Starlight,but here's the thing - they didn't seem to know each other..?Starlight and Sunburst were very close in their childhood,so naturally Starlight should've known Sunset right? Of course it could just be, that time is the reason she didn't know her,if Sunset disappeared before Sunburst became friends with Starlight that sort of solves the problem? But still I don't think Sunburst, even though the memory of his sister would be regretable to think about, wouldn't at least mention he had a sister to a pony he was this close with? (also let's just ignore the fact that I'm one year late and this comment probably isn't going to get acknowledged by anyone-)

I loved hearing all this and think it might all be accurate... BUT

You forgot one crucial piece of info about the mirror: it could only open every so often. Sure, Twilight fiddled with it and now can go through whenever, but it never was like that until the events of Rainbow Rocks. He had to have done it at a specific time. And before Twilight became a princess aswell.

This is the kind of story I would love to read on FIMFiction: a novel-length description from Sunburst’s perspective on his sister’s disappearance and reunion, undertowed by a full-featured familial rollercoaster of drama and emotion.

On the other hand, when Tirek takes the magic of the pillars, their cutie marks don’t disappear (shown with Rockhoof). Did something slip through the cracks or is it something bigger?

A bit of a role model situation, but it leads to when he does come over to speak to her, that she gains info like you said, then ghosts him.

So now, I think it's time for the Equestria Girls to shine while G5 is airing!! Comparing to FİM, EG was soo comfortable. Now it's their story to become complicated. Isnt it strange how the Alicorn Princesses have different wing types? I wonder why? I mean, Twilight has normal Pegasi wings, Cadence and Luna have the same wing type, and Celestia has also a different wing type, not sure why though. Also I have noticed how their horns are different lengths too, maybe it has something to do with how much power they have? Any ideas??

My only question is what Sunset said in the fist movie “what happens too an element of harmony when taken to an alternate universe”

Wow, this is amazing. If this theory is true, than it explained why Starlight Glimmer became the way she is. He probbaly was heavily affected by his sister disappearance. When he got into the Celestia's Magic School for Unicorn, he push himself to uncovered the truth about Sunshine Shimmer to the point it even affecting his study. While at the same time Starlight try to calm and help him but Sunburst got so obsess with finding the real cause of his sister's disappearance and never replied to her. Sunburst might have closed his heart and all of Starlight effort to reach out to him was in vain to the point that she was also heavily effected. I mean both Sunburst and Starlight have awkward relationship with their parent and Sunshine disappearance might actually dragging Sunburst's childhood friend, one that he was so closed like a sibling that is Starlight and her relationship with her parent. She probbaly thinking genuine relationship was useless and you can never reach out to the other side until Twillight manage to reach out to her.

A few flaws in your theory:

The first Equestria Girls movie came before Twilight made her machine to travel freely between Equestria and Canterlot High. At that time, the doorway only opened once every '30 moons'. How did she know that would be when Twilight would be there and exactly which room she was staying in? Sunburst couldn't have had that information.

How did she know the crown would look exactly like the one made for her Fall Formal?

Celestia knew nothing about the human world and admitted she didn't know anything about the other side of the mirror. Her words when Twilight wanted to know: "You will soon know more of this world than even me'

Celestia had already lost one student to the mirror, so why would she risk another?

Wouldn't Sunburst or Sunset have said something about the mirror or each other if they had known? Or if Sunburst really cared for her, wouldn't that memory be more traumatic for him than flunking out of Celestia school, because he seemed far more focused on that memory when he reunited with Starlight.

If Sunburst really knew so much about the mirror and what lay on the other side, wouldn't Celestia have gone to him for information before sending Twilight through? He was in the Crystal Empire at the same time so it wouldn't have taken long to get him to the castle.

Celestia sent the portal to Cadence for guarding. How would Sunburst have gotten to a magic relic that would be more heavily guarded than the armory without word of the portal mirror or rumors spreading throughout the Crystal Empire?

Wouldn't Starlight have brought up the mirror in a conversation with Sunburst given their equal obsession with magic. Especially after meeting Sunset face-to-face? Sunburst's name didn't come up once in that entire episode and the mirror nor did Sunset or the mirror ever come up in a single episode involving Sunburst.

10:25 and there comes my theory about the guards, so maybe it was a good idea I'd watch the videos I missed from the most reent to the oldest

(my theory was that not all the guards we see are flesh and blood, but maybe mirages of the real guards because Celestia doesn't have enough recruits and still wants to cause people to think the guard is powerful)

I can see SunBurst and SunSet Shimmer working together, but not by it starting out with him first looking for his sister. I see someone being more bitter that she left, believing that she abandoned her family, where in the beginning he hoped she would return, soon was replaced with a grudge, one that would only go away if Sunset Shimmer were to return...and she did, when she went to get Twilight's Tiara, whose to say she didn't leave the portal before and no one knew?
She and her brother would be close, even with their motives being opposites, them being close would cover how opposite each other's own motives are, so yes, I agree Sunset Shimmer was using her brother, but only in part, this is a close bond they share, and a motive she would of course never tell SunBurst, so he would be kept in the dark, serving as an unsuspecting mole, until SunSet's motives for asking how life is for him would change, but SunBurst would ultimately not know.

Another view at this, would be that Sunburst was actually in on the scheming, and might've reasoned it was okay because anything happening that she would plan to do, wouldn't effect equestra, so he would not have to deal with anyone holding him responsible, and his own life wouldn't be disrupted, and if he can see his sister, all the more worth it to see her, even work with her.
Sometimes, villains are not really villains, they're too innocent, but yet they lack the ability to be responsible for their actions.

I wonder why, after Sunset is reformed, we don't get a single scene of her thinking of the former family that she left behind, or even when going through the mirror, be reminded of her pony family which, undoubtedly, fills her heart with guilt. It doesn't seem like she remembers anything of her pony family in hopes of returning to them, but yea I would certainly love to see an official episode of this.

You know if you added a bit more to it you'd have a fantastic fan fiction on your hooves. (Like maybe some dialogue or even sunburst looking back on it and show the story using flashbacks...)

10:22 Sunset knows about the Crystal Empire, because she was its previous ruler, she is also Clover the Clever, plus many other aliases. After she arrived at Canterlot High School, she erased her memories, and then buried the 'Portable Memory Stone' (the actual one is bigger. The Memory Stone is implied to be the Portal). It is implied she regulary had a 'Fight Club' moment.

Note Sunset Shimmer is quite ancient. In a deleted scene, she was quite surprised on how much Canterlot Library had changed, either that or seeing a non-pegasus 'Flash Sentry'.

Even in "Forgotten Friendship", her past is NOT shown. In the first movie, it was implied that Celestia moved the Mirror back to the Crystal Empire in order to bring back Sunset.

Interesting theories as usual Sawtooth, and if Sunburst really did play a part in all that it would sure be a real twist on things!

Well it's been a year, and I've found a few flaws in this theory;

1.
Sunburst had no idea there was a reason to why his mother was sending him so many letters, there was a whole episode about it. If he remembered his sister, he would know the reason his mom was so worried

2.
Celestia didn't seem to recognize sunburst other than him just being a student like her other students, no special treatment or any sort of fear that he'd turn out like one of the two best students she would ever have. I don't think she would send him on a mission at all considering how unknown the world was and sunbursts lack of true talent (although he makes up for it in knowledge), or at least she wouldn't send him alone

I cant believe MLP ended😭😭 My heart’s aching! So many questions that don’t have a confirm answer... so many fans wanting MLP back! Can’t we force Hasbro to do more MLP Friendship is magic??!!!😐😭. Btw, GREAT theory👍🏻

Sawtooth, I just watched the ' sunset shimmer's brother' video and I realised you said something contradictory in this video to what you said in the other one. In the previous video, you said that starlight glimmer wouldn't know about sunset as sunburst's family would be too ashamed to talk about sunset but in this one, you said that celestia said she went missing so his family never could've known the truth: meaning that they'd never be ashamed to talk about her and starlight should've recognised her.

THis sounds very plausible. I wished we would've got some information about Sunsets Family. But your theory is good and it's satisfying. ^^

Luster Dawn is visible in My Little Pony Equestria Girls' "Holidays Unwrapped"'s "Dashing Through the Mall". Her face is covered, but she is easy to spot due her Crystal Prep School Uniform. The other CP Students are out of their uniform, such as Fleur de Lis / Fleur dis Lee.

Does anyone remember that the mirror only opened once every one hundred moons? Sure we can go through the mirror whenever now, but that's because Twilight built the machine that keeps it open. I think that the mirror was moved to The Crystal Empire recently at the time of Equestria Girls. So would there be enough time for Sunburst to go through the mirror?

i think it's possible that sunburst went to learn at the magic school while sunset was still there, and a large part of why he failed out was his sister's sudden disappearance. This would close the age-gap a bit and mean that even if the school helps train unicorns in the theory of magic he'd still flunk out due to circumstances [since a unicorn can still help a lot with magical studies even if they can't use magic all that well themselves and i'm sure celestia knows this]

Ok, Sawtooth I have a very important question that has been bugging me for a while.

What happened to the human Sunset, the original Sunset Shimmer, because the one in Equestria girl is obviously the Sunset from the pony world.

This has been bugging me for years, I can't think up and logical answer, do you have any idea Sawtooth, cause my brain needs answers.

This is irrelevant to this particular video, but in a previous video you tried to describe which elements of harmony of the student 6 would represent. You tried to match them up to the same qualities as the mane 6, but whose to say that they would represent the same qualities as the mane 6? Think of the pillars, the represented the elements of harmony, but not for the same reasons the mane 6 do. Here what I think the student 6 would represent.
Yona: Trust
Silver Stream: Gratitude/Joy
Ocellus: Gentleness
Sandbar: Faith
Smolder: Honour/Acceptance/Protective?
Gallus: Honour/ Courage

Considering that the mirror used to open only once in 30 moons it's quite unlikely that the Crystals Castle is the place where Sunset and Sunburst's meeting was held. He should've had interacted with her face to face much much earlier and he wouldn't have had known where and for how long Twilight would've stayed.
The other way of them keeping in touch would be something like a book Sunset used to chat with Twilight in Rainbow Rocks. Maybe it even was that very book, being provided to Sunburst by Celestia to let him talk with his sister while the portal is locked (that would explain how Sunburst was able to keep Sunset in touch with Equestrian news even though the portal was locked).

I looked up who sunset shimmers mother was and its Celestia, but she was adopted by Red Shimmer and Amber Dawn.

Maybe instead of going in since he was scared he used a spell to talk with her and see her but she then when he was useless she cut off all contact and then they kept the conversation a secret

Everything seems legit but for one tiny thing. In the first movie of equestria girls, I think celestia mentioned that the portal closed at a time. It was open for about 2-4 days, so how did sunburst go through it and get out without the portal closing?

And another thing I found weird about this theory is that during flurry hearts crystaling. Celestial and Luna did not know sunburst very well and didn’t know if he was a wizard or not. So how could he had gotten advice from celestial to go to the human world if celestial didn’t know him during the crystalling?

It is implied BOTH Twilight & Starlight were previously humans, or at least bipeds. Twilight is relatively fast on learning to walk with two legs again, Starlight, extremely fast.

In "Mirror Magic", we see that while the girls retained their habits (e.g. bipedal Sunset, quadrapedal Starlight), they are quite fast to (re)learn again.

Also the girls might have been originally SEGA's Sonic the Hedgehog's hedgehogs.

One problem with this theory:
This was when the portal to Equestria could only open every 30 moons. Sunburst would be trapped for a while after going in.

That just might explain why when sunburst first met twilight he seemed disinterested and cold to her, like he found out why sunset was asking all of the questions, and seemingly blaming her unwillingness to come back and disinterest towards sunburst on twilight. The mirror is always protected in a royal castle and can bring anycreature to antoher world and so maybe when Celestia told her parents, she kept the exact reason out of the conversation because Celesta may think that if she told them the full story they will go through the portal as well to get their daughter back but in the process they might make the world have magic and since that world never really had magic it could eventually corrupt someone.

That was a great sunburst secret mission backstory, way better than the flash helping sunset theory and makes more sense

The only thing that bothers me is that at this point in time the portal would only open once every 30 moons.

I ask you, does Shining Armor the Pony exist in My Little Pony Equestria Girls? Being the Chief Security Officer, he was supposed to be present during the briefing. But no, he was replaced by Cadance. Even in Friendship Games, Cadance do most of the talking.

The issue is in "A Canterlot Wedding", there was not supposed to be an 'Evil Cadance'. When 'Good Cadance' got created, she absorbed story plots of Twilight, Shining, and reformed Chrysalis. In EG, she is mostly a 'transgender Shining'.

I love this theory but I personally think that Sunset was still in Equestria, studying magic under Celesta when Sunburst went to magic school but Sunburst was in the beginners classes while Sunset was Princess Celesta’s personal student so they didn’t see or bumped into each other, much to Sunburst’s disappointment but when Sunset became rebellious and went to the human world, Sunburst was either called out of his classroom by Celesta or got a letter from his mother telling him that Sunset ran away which would have crushed him to the point where he couldn’t focus on his studies and eventually flunked out of school, feeling lost and confused on why his sister would run away. Cue Sunburst looking for answers, finding out about the portal, asking Celesta about it, her giving him a proper explanation because she would probably feel really guilty about keeping Sunset’s actual whereabouts a secret from her family, lets him go inside when the portal opens, he goes in, finds Sunset, talks to her, she uses him to get information about what’s going on in Equestria, she dismisses him once she got everything that she needed, he goes back upset that he couldn’t get her to come back home, he stays in the empire to continue his magical studies and incase Sunset comes back, and Equestria girls happens.
After a few months after Sunset was able to make amends with Celesta, she has a consistent reminder about the day that her brother came to the human world to see her and how she took advantage of that. She writes to Twilight and tells her about it as well as her family where Twilight finds out about Sunburst and her being related. She sends a letter to Sunburst, asking him if he’d be willing to meet her in her castle. Sunburst goes to Ponyville and meets with Twilight, Starlight, Spike and maybe the other main six too where Twilight asks him if he knows somepony named Sunset Shimmer which after a bit of hesitation, he would tell them that he does know her and that they’re siblings which would be a big shock to Starlight and would cause her to ask him why he didn’t talk about her beforehand. Sunburst would tell them everything that happened after Sunset went to the human world. Twilight would then ask him if he’d still want to see her even after everything that had happened between them which Sunburst would say “Of course! I would be thrilled to see her again!” Twilight would smile and pull out a book before writing in it which would confuse Sunburst. Twilight would tell him to follow her and they would go to where the portal is being kept to see a flash of light fill the room to reveal Sunset. The two siblings would reconnect again after so much time apart. Sunset would apologize to Sunburst for the way that she treated him when they last saw each other which Sunburst would forgive her before asking her if she ever plans on staying home, Sunset would tell him that she actually found her place in the human world so she doesn’t see herself staying in Equestria permanently but she promises Sunburst that she’ll come back to visit him. Twilight or Celesta might give them a set of magic books like Twilight has so Sunburst and Sunset can talk to each other when there in other worlds. Also it can be easier for them to organize their visits without needing to use Twilight.

I have been thinking something Sawtooth-
In the first movie of MLPEG Sunset's aura or the colour of magic that comes out of her horn was turquoise .
But in later episodes like when Sunset came to equastria world to bring a new diary from starlight to communicate with twilight, in the episode Junipers Mirror.

Discord reminds me of Bill Cipher from Gravity Falls.
What if they're connected? I mean they're both powerful chaos god type things and when they're defeated they're both turned to stone. This theory has a LOT of problems. A solid story that could very well hold a lot of truths, especially if you consider Sunburst's personality when we see him and how subdued he is and how focused on his studies. Maybe he was trying to find a way to bring magic across the mirror and show his sister their once happy memories and how their father was now gone. With those thoughts in mind it could have helped Sunset to really become reformed in the end, because now she wanted her family back too.

There’s only one problem back then there was only one portal that only opens every sometime moons so how could sunburst get in after all that it would have to be a really long time after sunset he may have came in after all those moons but I think it’s a little hole in the story plus how could she listen in in the guards.

I really like this theory but there’s one major problem. Sunburst and Starlight grew up together, so if Sunset were really Sunburst’s sister, Sunset and Starlight would have met before, but when Sunset visited the pony world and ran into Starlight, the two of them had no idea who the other was.

Why is it that I would like to see sawtooth waves see how the story of the show would have been if you change one event in it (like what would happen if sunset never went though the portal? or what would happen if the portal that Twilight went through in equestria girls, instead send her into the world of another show?)

I think it was 100% in secret. Why would Celestia give permission to a random unicorn (at the time, I think) to go to another world that has not been explored. If this wasn't the case and he somehow was allowed to go through, he would of most likely had someone else there with him to confront his sister.

Hm, I'm kind of wondering now with Sunburst and Sunset back in contact, if perhaps Luster Dawn isn't actually Sunburst's daughter, but Sunset's, sent to live with her uncle in Equestria and then attend the School of Magic when Sunset realized her daughter's potential for magic in the human world. It's possible Luster was aloof in the human world, rather like Human Twilight, and she couldn't connect with people very well, but dove into her mother's stories about Equestria and longed to go there herself. Sunset, sensing an opportunity for Luster to learn the same lessons she had, sends her to Equestria with Sunburst. She - taking after her mother's love for magic and grasping onto her uncle's love for learning - immediately starts studying everything she can about Equestria and magic, eventually landing at spot at Twilight's school. When she has trouble connecting to ponies, Twilight sends her back to ponyville, which she does seem somewhat familiar with, greeting a few ponies she's seen, but never talked to.

If Sunburst wasn't granted permission to use the portal it wouldn't have been hard for him to sneak through. All the guards look the same and Sunburst, being very good with magic, could almost definitely find a spell to make him look just like one of them. Also in a previous video sawtooth suggested that celestia uses a spell to make all the guards look the same so if that's true sunburst can find and use the same spell on himself. And can I just point out how easy it was for sunset to sneak around the castle unnoticed; if she hadn't tripped over Spike's tail no one would have known she was there! Castle security ain't all that, so even without impersonating a guard Sunburst could have went through the mirror.

So we can infer that the ponies had no way of controlling when the portal would be open, only knowing when it would open on its own, and for how long.

Let's start with the assumption it works on a regular cycle of 30 moons, which if the lunar cycle is the same as Earth comes to 2.3 to 2.5 years [solar] depending how one figures it. If 1 show season ~= 1 year, then the previous opening was perhaps during season 1, but maybe somewhat before that {especially with S3 so short}, so Shimmer might have found out about events to that point, but only that far.

One of my earliest theories was that Shimmer entered the portal around the time of the first episode. [2.5 seasons = 2.5 years = 30 moons, assuming 12 moons to the year exactly] For Sunset to find out she barely missed out on the event which set Sparkle on the path to princesshood could have been maddening!

But the Grand Galloping Gala is annual, and "Best Night Ever" & "Make New Friends but Keep Discord" seem to be consecutive Galas, while being separated by over 70 episodes. Unless season one were much more spread out over time than later ones, that would imply the previous opening of the portal happened well before the series started!

But what if the cycle of the portal opening was irregular? It would have to be quite varied to have had one opening after the Season 3 opening, when the Crystal Empire reappeared, and the next between Seasons 3 & 4 when Equestria Girls happened, presumably less than 1/2 year later!

Plus this is has all been looking only at the pony side of the portal. Shouldn't AT LEAST 2.3 years have passed in the human world since she got there? And we later see Sunset discard 3 Fall Formal coronation pictures, which would have had to happen before EqG1, so apparently she had been there at least 3 full years of human world time. Did she get there when younger than a high school student, to allow for all those and all the EqG movies, specials & shorts to happen before graduation? But back to the pony side:

Otherwise, for Sunburst to tell Sunset everything you say here, particularly Princess Twilight's ascension, either the portal opened between "Magical Mystery Cure" and the movie and again by the start of the movie [an awfully short cycle!], or Sunburst's trip to the human world and Equestria Girls would have to occur in a single opening of the portal.

The portal might stay open quite a while, even a full moon, but for Sunset to
- find all that out from either Sunburst or spying in the Crystal Palace,
- formulate a plan for what she could do with the crown and how to get it or just stumble on Princess Twilight
-- [presumably having already researched the Elements of Harmony before going human and still remembering it, in which case she might have pursued that path to power instead {as in a story idea I've been working on}, or getting Sunburst to research for her after hearing his story since he's great at researching that way and probably has access to such arcana?],
- AND have the movie take place,
that would be pretty hard to believe!

Sunburst could have also tracked down one of the other portals that rainbow dash found in spring breakdown. there are so many possibilities!

But in the 2nd episode of Season 6 (The Crystaling pt.2), Celestia said she didn't recognize the name Sunburst, as if he had studied in her School but she didn't remember him.
So I guess if he kept in touch with Sunset, Celestia didn't know . Maybe he have discovered the mirror by himself in his studies.
Unless Celestia kept it a secret, but why would it be a secret if all the ponies that were present there already knew about the mirror and Sunset was already in the good side ?

This is all flawed by the fact that Celestia recognized Sunburst, but only as a former student, not as anything else. Reference is from Sunbursts own intro episode while trying to fix the Crystal Heart. Celestia's recognition shows that Sunburst did not in fact go to Celestia at any point.

That being said, there is some logic to Sunbursts studies in all the places the Mirror is. If only there was some actual hint which linked either of them having to having a sibling.

Then this theory would hold quite a bit of merit, sadly it's all conjecture without either having a known sibling.

I did comment in one your earlier Sunset Shimmer video about Sunburst being her sibling is that I think two other scenarios would be possible are:
1. The Sunset we know is actually the Sunset from the EQG realm, not the pony realm.
2. Sunset was a ward of Celestia's. Not her daughter, but under her care due to her not having any family to care for her.

I think the 2nd option may be more plausible, and give more depth to Sunset's betrayal and abandonment of Celestia.

What if Flash DID have a part in the plan? It would be quite obvious for someone to be going in-and-out of the mirror regularly. Sure, when Sunset stole the crown she was able to get past with no one noticing, but she would be caught the 1st or 2nd time through. What if human flash already was going in-and-out through a different portal? We know there can be a natural portal, so what if he went through it to help Sunset Shimmer know the direct time to take the crown? He could’ve saw that Sunset had a brother and get the guts to ask her what else she was keeping. And, obviously, Sunset saw the opportunity to use that. So she told human Flash everything about her past and so in result, Flash told her about his adventures. Somehow Sunset convinced him to help her to get knowledge of when to steal the crown. With all your knowledge on MLP you can probably make the idea amazing. And I would love to see it in a video.

1. It's not that the family's story wasn't complete, it didn't seem like there was a missing piece.

How I think sunburst was involved in stealing the crown :

I like to think that if celestia refused to tell him he would sneak into the crystal empire and somehow get into the mirror. He and sunset would meet and he would say something like : You’ve missed so much in equestria! And then he would proceed to tell her all about the elements, mane 6, twilight, etc. she would get intrigued by this and then pretend to care for sunburst, making him happy! But I’m reality she would use him and ask him numerous questions about the elements and the crown. The discovery on how Celestia didn’t tell him the truth earlier, along with his sisters encouragement, would be just enough for him to give sunset the information she needed about where twilight would be. Once he gave her the info, she would have just thrown him to the side since he was of no use for her anymore. He would have been crushed. He would leave to the pony world with instant regret and swear to never think about the incident again. You may be wondering- why didn’t he tell celestia? Because sunset manipulated him and asked him for info about the elements ( in general ) and mane - 6! Maybe even about the event that happened before sunset stole twilights crown! Not the crown itself! So he wouldn’t know what she wanted with it! Filled with guilt sunburst would do intensive research in hopes to find out what she wanted with the info. But by the time he realised. It was too late. Twilights crown had been stolen.

hmm.. i think i can reassure that sunburst is not sunset's brother. see, starlight knew sunburst at a very young age, so she must have known about him having a sister. when she met him the first time after she hadn't seen him for that long, she must have at least asked about how his sister is doing, or even any other sibling. there is no sign of starlight or anybody else knowing abut a sibling of sunburst, that is why i have never believed that sunset sand sunburst are siblings.

I told you STARLIGHT is sunset's sister! But I really think its the same story just with starlight but also I think that after going through the mirror when she saw sunset, starlight already knew sunset's tricks to well! I think that instead of telling sunset everything she tried to convince her to come back to eqestrea. She forced her and begged her to come back but sadly she couldn't do it. But otherwise I think you're story is likely. But then again it could have gone a totally different way like if celestia didn't tell her that's just what I think. But starlight would of also needed to tell sunset that there actually sisters! And in "mirror magic" it may have been so long that they had to introduce again? But like I said that's just what I think. And how I think sunset knew about the twilight's crown well I think she knew that starlight was hiding something so she snuck in through the the portal a few times to get the full scoop. And yes starlight was probably still evel but I bet she would still do it for her sister!

This is what I think what happend kinda like yours:sunburst got his cutie mark and his parents thought they would send him to the same school his sister went .some time later she got kicked out and she ran away and got into the portle and sunburst was sad that she was missing. so he studied a lot and soon he found something about a portle and went to celestia and she told him she will wait and see if she comes back maybe and sunburst agreed and went home.as time past one day she came to do revenge on celestia but she noticed she was in a different castle and she over heard guards talking about twilight and she got a fake crown and tried to replace it.
