Btw the creators said that Discord let Starlight banish him. Some fans said that Starlight can compete with Discord after that scene which is REALLY extreme.
If someone back in season 1 said that TRIXIE would be one of the 'preferred' choices for substitute friendship teacher, I would have had them committed to an asylum.
This is one of episode where I wasn’t very fond of Discord. It’s fair to say that he had some chuckle worthy moments, however his behavior leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.
I know Discord always wants to be included in something or other, but ruining the learning experience of the students the way he did wasn’t cool. That goes for sending the Mane 6 on a wild goose chase of a map summons too. I don’t think he should’ve gone unpunished for what he’s done to the school, at least in my opinion.
Aside from the Draconequus in the room, I like this episode because we had some more time with the Young 6 and Starlight. Plus, it was cool to see some familiar faces making cameos too (Iron Will, Spitfire, Maud, Trixie, etc.)
Probably because they don't want to hurt him, Starlight is more 'Punisher' style: blast it forever especially when angry, her most powerful emotion to power her up in battle
The different opinions that people tend to have towards controversial episodes make me like them more because these kinds of episodes always make for great conversations.😁
P.s Honestly i don't think the characters were in that much danger otherwise Discord would be in trouble in more ways than one.
Discord was just over the top in this episode, and in a bad way. It's not a good episode, and he was just an utter dick. The only saving grace is that we got to see more of Trixie and Discord together and also Cozy Glow had to clip Cranky's hooves.
Starlight Glimmer is the only character to affect Discord; she banished him! Not even Celestia and Luna could do that and they had to resort to the elements.
This in addition to swapping the princesses cutie marks makes me believe Starlight is more powerful than both Celestia and Luna and Twilight straight up admitted Starlight was stronger in the season 5 finale.
This is by far Discords worst episode. It's not the first time he overreacted or was a jerk to everyone. However, it is usually due to his narcissism and chaotic nature making it impossible for him to think straight. Usually, it is also not in a way which could lead to serious harm, especially not towards those who are not the cause of said overreaction. For example, when he was mad at Treehugger, instead of trying to harm her, he simply tried to banish her to an alternate dimension. Even when he trapped Spike and Big Mac in Ogres and Oubliettes, the most serious injury they recieved was a cartoonish electrocution with them only looking a bit burned but still being fine afterwards. Basically, he was a jerk, but a jerk with a heart of gold (be it under a thick layer of pride and arrogancy) and an enjoyable one at that. But in this episode, these restrains were completly thrown out of the window. He does not hesitate to endanger anyone and everyone around him just to get back at Starlight for something outside of her control acting like a jerk with a heart of jerk instead with nothing enjoyable (at least not after the end of the the first act) to be found. He even endangered all of the Mane 6 INCLUDING FLUTTERSHY FOR CRYING OUT LOUD without a second thought or any apology for that matter. Even for a character for whom inconsistency actually makes sense considering he is the embodiment of chaos, this is way too much out of character. The fact that this is also the only episode since his reformation where he neither apologizes nor got instant karma for his behaviour, instead even being rewarded for it, doesn't make it any better. This is one of the very few episodes I actually hate.
@@thevoidtvft.shadowcorn8788 Don't worry mate you are definitely not the only person who feels that way about the episode and your reasoning does make a lot of sense. Besides different opinions only make me love controversial episodes more. :D
Okay. Well, it is of course very much possible that it is just me but when I compare his behaviour in this episode with his behaviour in other episodes /post-Season 4 finale, of course), I do see major differences (in the ways stated above).
Hmm Discord seems pretty in character to me. Also i highly doubt Discord would send the mane 6 off somewhere to die/be seriously injured. He also knows how strong they are so its not surprising he would send them somewhere weird or challenging that would keep them away for a good while not to mention we don't get to actually see where Discord sent them so we can only assume what was going on in the mane 6's side of things. And i also highly doubt he would have let the students be hurt because he would have gotten flak from Fluttershy & The princesses for sure if that happened (The walking armor & Floating paintings definitely weren't much of a threat). I do think Discord should have said sorry though.
This episode got a lot of fans mad because of the way the problem was resolved - or, rather, the way it wasn't. Discord really should have apologized for endangering the students like he did two seasons ago in the D&D episode. I don't like complaining about MLP, but this time even I have to agree: this isn't character development done right.
My theory is that Discord is simply pushing Starlight's buttons in order to teach her that she's, 1, not as over her issues as she thinks she is, and, 2, that she CAN take charge of things, even when things are at their worst. His excuse is just something he made up. My theory about Discord is that he's ALWAYS doing things to help and teach, he just has his own way of doing it. It's important to note that, no matter what he does, everyone always learns something from it, or things turn out for the better than they would have if he didn't do what he did.
I still don't like this episode. Like, I see that working for What About Discord, but at least there the intended message was strongly hinted at throughout the episode.
Here we didn't get even that. And Discord was just being plain mean in many places. It was...disappointing to see this episode, especially after a longer than usual hiatus.
Honestly, even though Discord is a little exaggerated, and having Starlight apologize at the end with Discord not doing the same feels off, I still quite liked this episode. I thought Starlight’s characterization was strong throughout, and it carried the episode, along with the Young Six.
i really like this episode always was a fan of discord being a dick only part i did not like was the ending cause i actually did think Spike was right and it was just a test for Starlight
Her magic is tied to her emotions, after all, and I’m willing to bet that being called an “incompetent, power-hungry unicorn” aroused some pretty strong emotions.
Holy shit, I f*cking despise this episode. I’m usually a huge fan of Discord, but he acted like such an insufferable a**hole in this episode that even I couldn’t stand it. And as soon as he put the Young 6 (especially poor Yona) in mortal danger with that bugbear, that was the last straw for me. I literally jumped for joy when Starlight blasted his ass into oblivion at 14:54.
It’s clear that Nicole Dubuc had absolutely no idea what she was doing when writing this episode. Discord was way out of character, Cranky Doodle was extremely out of character, and the moral (it’s OK to throw a giant temper tantrum and endanger people’s lives until you get what you want) is despicable.

Except the blast didn't do anything to Discord. Plus he wanted her to blast him so she just played into his hands.

4 likes@@Narrator007 Well if she asked her friends who would be good to use, Spitfire is probably the first name Rainbow would spit out.
8 likesI would say that Starlight was probably just picking her friends for the positions, except that she doesn't know Spitfire... as far as we know.
