personally, as someone who's experiencing probably the hardest and shittiest year of their life due to covid and disabilities, i really appreciate your light hearted videos, i truly mean it when i say they're some of the stuff that keeps me going these days (though i also appreciate your ability to take cricism like a champ). <3
I don't think that making lighthearted videos is wrong. In fact, as a disabled person who basically isolated themselves for 1 ½ years now, I think it is refreshing to see some lighthearted videos. Of course you have to do what feels right to you and what you can do with the covid19 symptoms you are experiencing. I hope you'll get well soon! (excuse my bad English, I'm not a native speaker and I'm trying my best)
i don't really think 'criticism' was justified? she doesn't deserve to be criticized for distracting herself because she's stuck in her home and y'know.. SICK. no one should be forced to work if they're sick, right? so why should she only put out serious videos instead of trying to have fun... idk. doesn't sit right with me if people full on criticized her for that. let her get better and do her thing. idk.
I almost died from severe Covid pneumonia. It was the worst thing physically I’ve ever had. Still have some symptoms even now. I enjoyed your light hearted video, in fact I thought it was very helpful to demonstrate to people this really is a thing, and not a global figment of our imagination. Some people are just looking for reasons to get riled up. Ignore them.
I also had covid pneumonia, followed by a God damn sinus infection lmao. just my luck. you worded this perfectly <3

dodie, I personally like your lighthearted videos. I’m brazilian and it’s hard to have hope at all when the deaths rates are not dropping (because of the fucking government of course). It’s good to distract myself from the apocalyptic situation we’re living in here at the moment. Thank you for raising awareness but I’d like to also thank you for giving us a glimpse of happiness when we need it so much.
Eu acho incríveis os vídeos fofinhos dela. é muito melhor que ficar preso no mundo real... E é sempre bom saber que eu não sou a única brasileira fã da Dodie que odeia o excrementíssimo
I'm portuguese and while I am grateful things are sort of under control here, I feel so much for all of you in Brasil who have to go through such an unbearable situation because of the terrible government :( Muita força para vocês, só estamos livres de perigo quando todo o mundo estiver em pé de igualdade em cuidados e vacinação...Desejo-vos muita saúde e felicidade 💚
I had covid before widespread testing was a thing in the uk. I felt horrible and ended up on an inhaler and steroids just to breathe properly though I wasn’t hospitalised level of sick. Fully vaccinated now and volunteer at vaccine centres in my spare time at the moment, no one is safe until we are all safe
Dodie, you've such a big heart~ even while feeling like a truck ran you twice over, you're taking part of your distraction-video-time to do research and speak out on this awful pandemic. Feel better, Dodie! A+ cause, too~
"I hope you can keep finding joy where you can" Dodie, for thousands of people, me included, you are one of those precious sources of joy and I'm forever thankful for it ❤️
There was a period of time where I made just paper cranes and paper stars. Both of which have been said to bring luck! A jar of paper stars to your crush is a sweet way of showing love, and I believe 1000 cranes at a wedding brings luck to a marriage. Get well soon dodes <<33
It's good that Dodie is adressing the situation but I hope she knows she doesn't owe anyone an explanation. She is allowed to make whatever vids she wants to make and she is allowed to cope with covid, the way she feels is necessary. Love you Dodie, feel better soon 💓
My grandparents both have covid, they're fully vaccinated but still got very poorly as they're 80. I'm scared for them, and I think they're scared too. Wishing you (and them) a speedy recovery.
This week, I lost my mom and my uncle... and still can’t believe this is happening. Idk why yesterday I was so mad about the video of tasting things. But then I thought his is nobody’s fault, and people should just be happy. I know someday I’ll smile again. Sometimes I do but I don’t know if I mean it. I wish nothing but love for everyone that is on this situation.
I just wanted to say, this is exactly what I needed. Thank you for being so aware, and giving us joy when we need it most. Thank you for this video and helping out for the people that are unable to, and using your platform to help those who need it most. We love you Dodie :)
I think you should keep making light hearted videos (while paying respect to the virus/effects), it’s a form of escape and a safe heaven for a lot of your viewers. I’ve seen enough dramatic effects of COVID in my daily life, I love coming on here and watching creators making videos that make me and a lot of people smile. Thank you :)
I agree. I have no objection to her light hearted videos; I didn't feel she was being disrespectful of this situation we all find ourselves in. However, as you suggested, I don't necessarily want to encourage her to make videos when she needs to be resting and taking care of herself. If she feels up to making a video and can do so and wants to make one, wonderful, but absolutely no pressure to perform right now. I want Dodie to make a full recovery. :) <3
ahh im just glad that you’re feeling better, i can imagine that things could have been MUCH worse if you didn’t get your first dose - i hope you recover, and thanks for using your platform for good!
thank you dodie <3 hope you get well soon!!! in Barcelona it's a nightmare. and it's tough especially for people who have been isolating almost nonstop for more than a year and a half now for different reasons and can't even feel safe going to the grocery store across the street w such high numbers. My heart breaks for those living in places where vaccines are not even part of the plan yet. please stay safe, everyone
I’m glad you did this little vid acknowledging the seriousness of covid and your privilege. It’s awesome that you’re donating your Adsense from these videos. That said, we all need joy right now 💕
While I appreciate the seriousness of this vlog and its cause, I agree with others that I really enjoyed two previous light hearted and happier videos. Please continue to shine your light on the world!
Dodie needs to be protected at all cost. The self-awareness, self-introspection and selflessness shown in just this one video makes me reconsider the way I view many things. I hope to one day be even a fraction as good of a human being as you are Dodie, but at the same time I hope you realise that you don't have to carry the burden of the world and of your subscribers on your shoulders.
Lighthearted and serious content both bring value and can both help people that need it. In such a dark world, a little light might just be what saves someone, so please don't restict yourself and do what suits you best and what you want to do, regardless of how others perceive it, some might feel iffy about it but others definitely cherish it (I'm one of them).
Apologies for my rambling, this made me a bit emotional. Anyways hope you're feeling better and that you'll get back to normal swiftly and will be able to taste and smell soon.
i always appreciate that you can take on criticism and incorporate it into what you do and yet also have a positive affect on the situation ie: (donating money) whilst simultaneously making content that keeps you sane & keeps us entertained too :”) big recovery vibes to you, have been there too and it does get easier !!
Personally, I've really appreciated these lighthearted vlogs. My parents are away on holiday so I'm home alone, and I started spiralling mentally the day they left, feeling very scared and dissociated. I can't call them because there's no service where they are, and I can't go out for distraction either, because I found out I've recently been in contact with someone who has covid. I got tested today and am awaiting the results, but I'm scared I'll stay trapped here alone with my thoughts. So it's been really nice the past few days to have these videos, and feel like at least I'm not trapped alone.
P.S. No pressure to continue them though! Please take all the rest you need to recover from this virus. ❤❤
Thank you so much for mentioning Brazil! In March we were having 5000 deaths IN A DAY and I heard no one from international media talking about it, thank you a lot
I live in Germany and a lot of big print medias write about different countries and their covid-status! Your country is definitely talked about! Hope you and yours are as safe as can be 🍀
I am absolutely terrified of COVID, I’ve just gone through surgery and while I was recovering I developed pneumonia and now my lungs are absolutely terrible I can’t even take a deep breath now without coughing. So COVID a huge worry fo me now. I love you Doddle I hope you get better soon ❤️❤️❤️
thank you for putting captions on this video! bc as much as i love ur voice i simply Could Not understand what you were saying with a stuffy nose haha (and also for obvious accessibility reasons)
I had a really shitty year, I was lucky enough that no one that I know died, but almost half of my family(that's in Brazil) is an at risk person(I'm also one, but I'm lucky that I live in Canada), and this was the first year that I couldn't see my big sister. But I love when I can find happy, or wholesome videos like the ones you've been making, it distracts from all the shit that's going on.
I obviously can’t speak for everyone, but I am disabled/have lots of health issues plus severe anxiety and I always cope with humor! Sometimes when things seem super unknown and out of control, we need to laugh and that’s totally valid and healthy! I appreciate this video and for many people it probably is needed, but don’t be too hard on yourself. We all need to get through this in different ways. Hope you feel better soon! 💓💓💓
i've been working in food service pretty much since the pandemic started, and it's been terrifying. i fold one paper crane every day at work (i write a little journal entry on the inside of it first) and it helps me feel like time is passing, things are changing, and yes, i am part of something that can be good. and seeing you making a crane too made that feeling a little stronger. thanks for the comfort you've provided over the years, dodie. been here since we were both teenagers and i'm so grateful for ya!
This years have been hard for me and my family and yesterday's video did feel kinda weird, I'm glad you've recognized the bigger situation, and I don't want you to feel guilty, cuz you're not, just thank you for the acknowledgement and don't let the negative comments get you. Stay safe
I'm glad that you're doing a couple of videos for charity, but I come to your channel and watch your videos to escape the tragedy of this pandemic. They make me smile and make me feel like things arent going to always be so grim. People need hope and lightheartedness. I'm sorry that that has upset some people, but it was really helping others. You shouldnt feel bad for being your lighthearted self. My grandmother was hospitalized for 3 months because of covid, and is still suffering the side effects of being intubated and on the ventilator. But I appreciate the light tone to your videos. Like I said, it's a nice escape. A nice distraction 🙂
i honestly appreciate the light hearted videos. Covid has affected my mental health in more ways than one, but your videos and music help allow me to escape and be able to smile. Stay strong we love you <3
I've lost 2 family members and our cat during the pandemic, but not from covid. I'm a diabetic, so I'm more at risk when it comes to the virus, but I'm double jabbed so I should be fine. I'm looking forward to not having to wear a mask about soon, since my anxiety means I can't cope with wearing one constantly for more than an hour, but this will mean more anxiety due to a greater risk of catching it without that layer of fabric in the way. All the praise goes to the NHS with dealing with this pandemic. Not the government, who have been useless at every turn (which they have taken at least 2 weeks late on every occasion), who are now basically saying "it's on you" now the cases are increasing again.
i’m pretty grateful for the videos it makes the situation feel less scary but without minimising the impact! this is coming from somebody who’s barely left the house in the past year and a half
You are so sweet, I hope you recover very soon. Also, it warms my heart to see so many self-aware and careful people in the comment section. Whenever I walk in my city, seeing so many people being done with distancing measures makes me feel very uneasy. Of course it's not fun to wear a mask and so on, but the alternative is so much grittier.
I got covid back in april last year (before testing was really available). The illness itself wasn't too bad for me, mostly just knocked me off my feet with fatigue for a couple of weeks. I then had long covid for most of a year afterwards. Not as bad as some, but but still dramatically limiting my ability to perform daily tasks. Thankfully over the last 6 months or so, that's moreorless disappeared now and I'm finally able to do act pretty much like I was before
I think the lighthearted videos are good. Lockdown is hard, and isolation even moreso, and ultimately unless we are able to have some fun during it, people are going to end up breaking the rules and spreading the virus more
Thank you so, so much for this video, Dodie. You nailed every point. I got Covid in March 2020 and it has completely changed the course of my life. Long Covid, and the subsequent disabilities and health conditions I’ve been diagnosed with post-Covid, have made this a really fucking dreadful past 16 months. I’m really ‘enjoying’ your Covid content, as weird as that sounds. Wishing you the speediest of recoveries.
Light hearted videos aren’t going to change the viruses affect on the world. But they will go towards helping people enjoy a time that has been shitty for many. You aren’t hurting anyone. You are making great content.
I admire the fact you made this video, I loved the previous videos, get well soon dodie and everyone else in the comment section <3 Got tickets for Tilburg!
Personally I love your positive videos- my mental health has been not too stellar lately, and your videos have been so nice to watch and remember that there is some light out there, you know? And echoing what other people have said in the comments, you really do take the criticism like a champ! That’s a very admirable quality :D
lots of love to you ❤❤ last night on discord was so so lovely and i'm so glad you're not feeling too bad and using your creativity to help you pass the time x
i lost my great grandmother to covid. seeing you making the best of being stuck at home, being silly and happy, just trying to make the best of a shitty situation… it’s felt almost comforting? my grandmother spent her last days in and out of consciousness in a hospital bed. we had to wear full-body hazmat-like suits to see her. for whatever reason, it feels comforting to see someone not completely destroyed by covid. it helps me to remember that, while it was horribly sudden and i’m still struggling to move through the grief, it was ultimately her time. my great grandmother was an amazing woman, she was incredibly strong and independent for someone who was 92. up until the last two years of her life, she lived alone and was able to care for herself. it’s weird finding comfort in something like this, but hopefully others like me who have lost loved ones to covid will feel the same. thank you for all you do, dodie. <3
I lost a loved one to covid, and many of my loved ones still have side effects from having covid. I personally found no harm in the light hearted videos I actually really appreciated it. Covid is truly terrible but it was nice to have some happiness from your goofy videos ❤️
Thank you so much for making this. The lighthearted videos are great, and I don't think you did anything wrong in making them, but I also appreciate this a lot.
For people like me who might die of covid, watching people make fun videos like this is just a reminder that this pandemic is different for me than for most of my peers. And that's okay! I'm really glad most people are getting through it fine & are able to do things like make fun videos to get through. It's always important to find joy where we can. But it also means a lot for you to acknowledge that that's not how it is for everyone, and that we do need to all take this seriously, because at the end of the day it is serious. That doesn't mean we can't make the best of it, that doesn't mean we can't find moments of laughter in the midst of it, just that it's important for us to understand what we're really dealing with here.
My quarantine unofficially started in December 2019 with a concussion and still hasn't totally ended because I'm high risk even though I am fully vaccinated. I've had to move twice during it and my engagement fell apart. Your videos are a great reminder it's okay to laugh and smile while going though hard things
I'm glad you've decided to do both lighthearted and serious videos. I appreciate lighthearted, but it's also really frustrating that so many people aren't taking this sufficiently seriously, and I'm glad you're using your platform to encourage people to be safer than you were. Hoping you feel better soon 🤍
I love you so much these videos are so comforting even when you are just talking about this stuff which go off I love you for this video and just being u 💕💕💕💕
1:38 dodie mentions Bo Burnham on the day when I watched Inside for the first time (it was an amazing experience and I can only recommend it), that's funny.
My brother got COVID around October and suffered from long COVID for a long time after. He is better now and we can make it all lighthearted but it is dangerous but dodie these videos help get loads of people through this and we say sorry to you that you have to deal with COVID now too. You’ll be fine, don’t worry cos your great and will definitely get through it all
i'm happy to learn something i can do with my hands in such a hard time for everyone. it's said paper cranes are wishes. i think if we make enough, things will get better faster.
My boyfriend lost both his grandparents to Covid - I worked for the covid 19 team in my local area, it has been so so so awful. Wising you and your viewers all the best, stay safe all 😷❤️
my boyfriend, his entire family and i got covid this past april, i was very lucky to only have mild symptoms but everyone else got pneumonia and was hospitalized. that plus other things made those few months the scariest and shittiest of my life, im incredible thankful that everyone got better, but PLS guys check your fever levels if you have covid they are so important, pneumonia is very dangerous. idk i just wanted to say that, and i can't wait for everything to truly get better everywhere in the world. love you dodie!

Great video dodie, my grandad passed away from covid in May last year and it was a tough time, we're all certainly very lucky to have free access to a vaccine if it's safe for you to take it, I've been a fan for years but for some reason this video tuged on my heart strings and made me think of my grandad .
I'm sorry for your loss. I'm fully vaccinated now and had no ill effects from it (Pfizer both times), so in my experience it's safe to take. I hope you'll be able to get vaccinated soon. Love from the U.S. <3
@xylene I've had one vaccine so far, I meant to say as long as its safe for individuals to take it as some people can't get them for allergy reasons ect, but thank you :)
I've had Long Covid since getting sick in March 2020 (though we didn't call it that yet then!) and even though it has sucked I've also been very aware how privileged I am not to have lost my job, not to have been hospitalized, and to have been slowly recovering (got my sense of taste and smell back fully within 6 months) while I know that's not true for many many people. Thank you for acknowledging what you did in this video, and for being able to do both serious and silly things with your creativity. ❤️
My grandpa passed from covid in January. It happened while I was stuck in the UK lock down. He was in the United States suffering and I never ever got to say good bye to him. Luckily my family could be there as much as they could. The scariest thing was when he had to call my grandma and tell her he was being put on a ventilator. He cried to her saying “Maria I’m not going to come home.” He know that was it for him. My grandma suffers everyday because they had covid together but she beat it. They were married for almost 50 years and she had to let the love of her life pass away alone in a hospital room.
Covid sucks, but even these little things that you are doing are helping. By donating maybe one more person can get vaccinated to help save their life. Thank you for helping and I pray that you will feel better soon dodie. ❤️

as a brazilian, thank you for this. i don't get angry or mad but it does make me feel weird how some of the global north is "going back to normal" while im still having to fight my government to get the proper help my people need. that's just me tho! there is joy to be found in relishing in the silliness of some shitty situations and lord knows we need that lol i hope u have a speedy recovery! and hopefully, by a miracle, the uk manages the pandemic better this summer as well
I think it's good for people to see somebody with covid who isn't in hospital. There's this idea that you either get really sick and need oxygen etc, or you're totally fine. Personally I appreciate seeing some of the middle ground.
I was/am a COVID Long Hauler. People are still working in the United States to get it acknowledged as a disability because of how debilitating it can be for some. I've been lucky, and my symptoms have greatly diminished since becoming fully vaccinated, but I still struggle with some of the more stubborn symptoms. I strongly support you documenting your experience with it and how it is affecting you! It's different for everyone, and that's part of what is so important about this pandemic - while many can discuss similar experiences, and similar symptoms, everyone experiences it differently.
You mentioned somewhere, possibly Insta? that you were also having minor hallucinations - you are the first person I've seen talk about that since I tested positive and I wanted to say that hearing you say that was extremely comforting, coz I thought I was going mad lmfao so thank you!! And take care <3
Good on you Dodie. If more people realized that every time someone contracts COVID and passes it on, it gets another chance to kill someone, then more people would try to stay isolated instead of the incredible selfishness of some, just because it doesn't affect them as much as the next person it kills.
just because people like your content on youtube & your music, doesn't mean it's automatically your job to educate us on the world. we don't get to ask that of you and you shouldn't feel bad about not doing so? you're literally sick! if you want to distract yourself by making fun videos then that's fine lol. no one should be forced to WORK if they're sick, that'd be inhumane, right? so why would we expect that of you instead of letting you do what you want?
that being said, i do think it's dope you included the fundraiser! but don't feel like you can't make fun videos just because you're sick..
I don't care about the disclaimers (privilege and ignorance), I'm just here to watch you make content and enjoy it. You being yourself and doing what you'd naturally do has nothing to do with that 😁
Oh hey if you want I can teach you how to make different origami animals or put links from the websites I learned them from. Origami is what I’ve always done as my fidget thing to quench my ADHD and to cheer up my friends so it would be nice to spread the good feeling :) have a lovely day
my grandma is 90 years old and she was born in japan. she has had a lot of loss in her life and she even saw the mushroom cloud of little boy. i love this woman with all my heart and she still has such a positive outlook on life. in february my grandfather passed away from covid, but this year for easter she made lots of little paper birds to decorate her care home with 🥺 this video reminded me of her, that is all
I think it's completely bonkers that dodie needs to make a video apologizing for videoing her experience with covid, as if the video represents a public statement about the suffering, or lack thereof, of people around the world. She literally has the disease itself. She's using videos to cope. If she wants to document her experience, try to get through it by using humor, or do whatever the bloody hell she wants, that's her right. I didn't see her belittling the experiences of others, or playing down the impact covid has had on other people, or anything else of the sort. People are so damned sensitive and quick to judge that they jump on any chance to call out a perceived slight or injustice. When in reality it's just a person on the internet trying to get through what most of the people complaining haven't experienced themselves.
I had covid last year and it was horrible! I was in bed for a whole month and couldn't eat anything but cauliflower (random ik lol). But your lighthearted video was exactly what everyone needs right now; it gave us all something to smile about. In no way were you making covid seem like a joke or something to be laughed at. We all know the situation is bad but the content you create is a spark of joy and creativity during a time of pain and gloom. keep being you.
Hey dodie, I'm happy that you have making videos as a strategy to keep the anxiety at bay. Keep doing it, if it helps you!
Thank you for posting a more serious video though. I understand that you want to make light out of a bad situation, but watching you laugh about your loss of taste didn't make me less worried about you. I'm so scared and wish you a quick and full recovery!! You are so important to us!! Usually I am overjoyed when you post. But with covid I am just scared. I hope in a week or two everything will be fine. Fingers crossed! Emmy
I think we all understand that Covid is a miserable situation, the whole world has been living in various stages of lockdown for over a year now. People who get mad about trying to make the best of a bad situation are just looking for someone to aim all of their pent up frustration at.
Are you fortunate to be in the country you are in? Absolutely. Is what is happening around the world tragic? Absolutely. But the world has, and always will, have horrible unspeakable things happening somewhere. If you don't grasp the happiness that you can, then you'll be sad all of the time. We shouldn't blame each other for smiling when we can, or trying to make lemonade out of lemons.
Millions of people are suffering, and we should help them as much as we can. That being said, don't blame an entertainer for trying to entertain or for them to try to find whatever silver lining they can in a bad situation. We all are trying to make do with what we have, and being able to laugh or make someone else laugh is a precious gift
I'm so mad that Dodi has to curb her own coping mechanisms and art because a few people won't let her process the overwhelming terror of having covid in her own way. You're all monsters.
I felt a little bit offended by her light hearted videos but didn't say anything.
I was so scared when i got covid. But my symptoms were mild. My parents got covid and they recovered. I didn't lost anyone in this pandemic, thank god. I am very very privileged to be in the position i am in. But her lighthearted felt like she was having fun while others are suffering and losing their love ones from the same disease. I know she is scared too and it's her way of dealing with the disease. And it's her channel where she can post whatever she wants. That's why i didn't commented on her videos to say that her content might offend people who are affected by the disease.
I love that she took responsibility and made amends quickly to those who were really offended. This is why i love and support her because she can take criticism and responsibility.
Though i wish creators on this platform could get a break from our and advertiser's constant judgement and feedback because these creators are human too and would like to create content which they desire to create.
dodie is so happy while making these videos. And it will keep her busy while she is in isolation. Isolation can bring many negative thoughts and you can only defeat them if you don't pay attention to them and keep yourself busy.
What you can do dodie is make a disclaimer at first few seconds explaining that it is a lighthearted video and it's your way of dealing with your covid situation. So people who might get offended can get a warning sort off. Idk.
I hope you fully recover dodie, hazel and other friends that have covid. It is scary but it will pass. ❤
I enjoyed the light hearted stuff and I disagree with the people who sewed doubt about it. I guess no one should ever be allowed to have light hearted anything while suffering exists... ugg.
Personally I didn't think your videos were insensitive at all. There are so many horrible things happening all the time, but that doesn't mean you have to be deathly serious every time you talk about them.
It's nice of you to acknowledge your privileges, but also (everyone, not just dodie) don't apologize for your coping mechanisms. I don't see the harm in making silly little videos to to pass time
im too young for a vaccine and have no immune system and my mum is on chemo so we will be told to sheild when they lift the restrictions , when they could just keep mask wearing and social distancing in place while tings open up
I think its fucked up that people had to comment on your light hearted videos, youre just trying to make the best of a bad situation. Its not like they were main channel videos. I am sorry about the negativity you received, I don't think you should be too hard on yourself. Just keep swimming.
Someone very close to me had covid, and it wasn't that much of a bother for them, probably because their symptoms aren't so bad. They felt a bit sick, and they felt light headed. I'm not saying that you shouldn't be careful, I'm just saying that a lot of people felt that bad and different people have different experiences, and clearly, the ones who have worse experiences than others get a hell ton of attention. Just putting that out there
personally, as someone who's experiencing probably the hardest and shittiest year of their life due to covid and disabilities, i really appreciate your light hearted videos, i truly mean it when i say they're some of the stuff that keeps me going these days (though i also appreciate your ability to take cricism like a champ). <3

5 likesdodie, I personally like your lighthearted videos.

1 likeI had covid before widespread testing was a thing in the uk. I felt horrible and ended up on an inhaler and steroids just to breathe properly though I wasn’t hospitalised level of sick. Fully vaccinated now and volunteer at vaccine centres in my spare time at the moment, no one is safe until we are all safe

237 likesDodie, you've such a big heart~ even while feeling like a truck ran you twice over, you're taking part of your distraction-video-time to do research and speak out on this awful pandemic. Feel better, Dodie! A+ cause, too~

86 likesThere was a period of time where I made just paper cranes and paper stars. Both of which have been said to bring luck! A jar of paper stars to your crush is a sweet way of showing love, and I believe 1000 cranes at a wedding brings luck to a marriage.

I used to have a whole hare of paper stars!!!
1 likeIt's good that Dodie is adressing the situation but I hope she knows she doesn't owe anyone an explanation. She is allowed to make whatever vids she wants to make and she is allowed to cope with covid, the way she feels is necessary. Love you Dodie, feel better soon 💓
59 likesI have no idea who you are or why the YouTube algorithm suggested you to me, but I hope you recover soon and without complication.

You are refreshingly self-aware.
My grandfather died from covid this past February. I sincerely hope you recover soon. May the Lord smile upon you.

1 likeThis week, I lost my mom and my uncle... and still can’t believe this is happening. Idk why yesterday I was so mad about the video of tasting things. But then I thought his is nobody’s fault, and people should just be happy. I know someday I’ll smile again. Sometimes I do but I don’t know if I mean it. I wish nothing but love for everyone that is on this situation.

5 likesI think you should keep making light hearted videos (while paying respect to the virus/effects), it’s a form of escape and a safe heaven for a lot of your viewers.

2 likes@xylene 100% Dodie’s health and well-being should come first!

2 likesDodie needs to be protected at all cost. The self-awareness, self-introspection and selflessness shown in just this one video makes me reconsider the way I view many things.
6 likesI hope to one day be even a fraction as good of a human being as you are Dodie, but at the same time I hope you realise that you don't have to carry the burden of the world and of your subscribers on your shoulders.

2 likesPersonally, I've really appreciated these lighthearted vlogs.
10 likesP.S. No pressure to continue them though! Please take all the rest you need to recover from this virus. ❤❤
Thank you so much for mentioning Brazil! In March we were having 5000 deaths IN A DAY and I heard no one from international media talking about it, thank you a lot

also i am so impressed with the setting/layout/aesthetic/editing of this video. i'm out here without covid and i'm still not that aesthetic
2 likesI had a really shitty year, I was lucky enough that no one that I know died, but almost half of my family(that's in Brazil) is an at risk person(I'm also one, but I'm lucky that I live in Canada), and this was the first year that I couldn't see my big sister. But I love when I can find happy, or wholesome videos like the ones you've been making, it distracts from all the shit that's going on.
2 likesI obviously can’t speak for everyone, but I am disabled/have lots of health issues plus severe anxiety and I always cope with humor! Sometimes when things seem super unknown and out of control, we need to laugh and that’s totally valid and healthy! I appreciate this video and for many people it probably is needed, but don’t be too hard on yourself. We all need to get through this in different ways. Hope you feel better soon! 💓💓💓
8 likesi've been working in food service pretty much since the pandemic started, and it's been terrifying. i fold one paper crane every day at work (i write a little journal entry on the inside of it first) and it helps me feel like time is passing, things are changing, and yes, i am part of something that can be good. and seeing you making a crane too made that feeling a little stronger. thanks for the comfort you've provided over the years, dodie. been here since we were both teenagers and i'm so grateful for ya!
4 likesHello there Dodie. I hope you feel better soon from COVID! Also, very respectful video.

32 likesThis years have been hard for me and my family and yesterday's video did feel kinda weird, I'm glad you've recognized the bigger situation, and I don't want you to feel guilty, cuz you're not, just thank you for the acknowledgement and don't let the negative comments get you. Stay safe
1 likeI'm glad that you're doing a couple of videos for charity, but I come to your channel and watch your videos to escape the tragedy of this pandemic.
3 likesLove seeing you make the best out of a bad situation, also love you taking the time to acknowledge the seriousness of the situation.
1 likei honestly appreciate the light hearted videos. Covid has affected my mental health in more ways than one, but your videos and music help allow me to escape and be able to smile. Stay strong we love you <3
1 likeDodie has covid and yet is being so productive and giving us loads of content. Meanwhile I'm too lazy to go pee.
4 likesI've lost 2 family members and our cat during the pandemic, but not from covid.
5 likesAll the praise goes to the NHS with dealing with this pandemic.
1 likeYou are so sweet, I hope you recover very soon. Also, it warms my heart to see so many self-aware and careful people in the comment section. Whenever I walk in my city, seeing so many people being done with distancing measures makes me feel very uneasy. Of course it's not fun to wear a mask and so on, but the alternative is so much grittier.
1 like<3 love you either way Dodie, wishing you a speedy, full, recovery & that your friends, family & fans are staying safe too <3
0 likesI got covid back in april last year (before testing was really available). The illness itself wasn't too bad for me, mostly just knocked me off my feet with fatigue for a couple of weeks. I then had long covid for most of a year afterwards. Not as bad as some, but but still dramatically limiting my ability to perform daily tasks. Thankfully over the last 6 months or so, that's moreorless disappeared now and I'm finally able to do act pretty much like I was before
1 likeI think the lighthearted videos are good.
1 likeLight hearted videos aren’t going to change the viruses affect on the world. But they will go towards helping people enjoy a time that has been shitty for many. You aren’t hurting anyone. You are making great content.
1 likeHang in there dodie! So great that you are thinking of others and helping out. Thanks!
1 likeI admire the fact you made this video, I loved the previous videos, get well soon dodie and everyone else in the comment section <3 Got tickets for Tilburg!
1 likePersonally I love your positive videos- my mental health has been not too stellar lately, and your videos have been so nice to watch and remember that there is some light out there, you know? And echoing what other people have said in the comments, you really do take the criticism like a champ! That’s a very admirable quality :D
1 likelots of love to you ❤❤
1 likelast night on discord was so so lovely and i'm so glad you're not feeling too bad and using your creativity to help you pass the time x
i lost my great grandmother to covid. seeing you making the best of being stuck at home, being silly and happy, just trying to make the best of a shitty situation… it’s felt almost comforting? my grandmother spent her last days in and out of consciousness in a hospital bed. we had to wear full-body hazmat-like suits to see her. for whatever reason, it feels comforting to see someone not completely destroyed by covid. it helps me to remember that, while it was horribly sudden and i’m still struggling to move through the grief, it was ultimately her time. my great grandmother was an amazing woman, she was incredibly strong and independent for someone who was 92. up until the last two years of her life, she lived alone and was able to care for herself. it’s weird finding comfort in something like this, but hopefully others like me who have lost loved ones to covid will feel the same. thank you for all you do, dodie. <3
1 likeThis is lovely 💞 And I think your lighthearted videos are great. We need that. The world needs that. We need joy and laughter and silliness.
1 likeI lost a loved one to covid, and many of my loved ones still have side effects from having covid. I personally found no harm in the light hearted videos I actually really appreciated it. Covid is truly terrible but it was nice to have some happiness from your goofy videos ❤️

2 likesThank you so much for making this. The lighthearted videos are great, and I don't think you did anything wrong in making them, but I also appreciate this a lot.
1 likeFor people like me who might die of covid, watching people make fun videos like this is just a reminder that this pandemic is different for me than for most of my peers.
I'm grateful this was said. Thank you so much.

0 likesGreat video dodie, my grandad passed away from covid in May last year and it was a tough time, we're all certainly very lucky to have free access to a vaccine if it's safe for you to take it, I've been a fan for years but for some reason this video tuged on my heart strings and made me think of my grandad .

@xylene I've had one vaccine so far, I meant to say as long as its safe for individuals to take it as some people can't get them for allergy reasons ect, but thank you :)

0 likesI've had Long Covid since getting sick in March 2020 (though we didn't call it that yet then!) and even though it has sucked I've also been very aware how privileged I am not to have lost my job, not to have been hospitalized, and to have been slowly recovering (got my sense of taste and smell back fully within 6 months) while I know that's not true for many many people. Thank you for acknowledging what you did in this video, and for being able to do both serious and silly things with your creativity. ❤️
0 likesMy grandpa passed from covid in January.
0 likesCovid sucks, but even these little things that you are doing are helping. By donating maybe one more person can get vaccinated to help save their life. Thank you for helping and I pray that you will feel better soon dodie. ❤️
as a brazilian, thank you for this. i don't get angry or mad but it does make me feel weird how some of the global north is "going back to normal" while im still having to fight my government to get the proper help my people need. that's just me tho! there is joy to be found in relishing in the silliness of some shitty situations and lord knows we need that lol
0 likesi hope u have a speedy recovery! and hopefully, by a miracle, the uk manages the pandemic better this summer as well
I think it's good for people to see somebody with covid who isn't in hospital. There's this idea that you either get really sick and need oxygen etc, or you're totally fine. Personally I appreciate seeing some of the middle ground.
0 likesI was/am a COVID Long Hauler.
0 likesYou mentioned somewhere, possibly Insta? that you were also having minor hallucinations - you are the first person I've seen talk about that since I tested positive and I wanted to say that hearing you say that was extremely comforting, coz I thought I was going mad lmfao so thank you!! And take care <3
Good on you Dodie. If more people realized that every time someone contracts COVID and passes it on, it gets another chance to kill someone, then more people would try to stay isolated instead of the incredible selfishness of some, just because it doesn't affect them as much as the next person it kills.
0 likesjust because people like your content on youtube & your music, doesn't mean it's automatically your job to educate us on the world. we don't get to ask that of you and you shouldn't feel bad about not doing so?
1 likeyou're literally sick! if you want to distract yourself by making fun videos then that's fine lol. no one should be forced to WORK if they're sick, that'd be inhumane, right? so why would we expect that of you instead of letting you do what you want?
that being said, i do think it's dope you included the fundraiser! but don't feel like you can't make fun videos just because you're sick..
I don't care about the disclaimers (privilege and ignorance), I'm just here to watch you make content and enjoy it. You being yourself and doing what you'd naturally do has nothing to do with that 😁
0 likesthank u for this dodes!!
2 likesOh hey if you want I can teach you how to make different origami animals or put links from the websites I learned them from. Origami is what I’ve always done as my fidget thing to quench my ADHD and to cheer up my friends so it would be nice to spread the good feeling :) have a lovely day

0 likesmy grandma is 90 years old and she was born in japan. she has had a lot of loss in her life and she even saw the mushroom cloud of little boy. i love this woman with all my heart and she still has such a positive outlook on life. in february my grandfather passed away from covid, but this year for easter she made lots of little paper birds to decorate her care home with 🥺
0 likesthis video reminded me of her, that is all
This is beautiful acknowledgement
1 likeI think it's completely bonkers that dodie needs to make a video apologizing for videoing her experience with covid, as if the video represents a public statement about the suffering, or lack thereof, of people around the world.
1 likeI adore any video you wish to create~
1 likeThank you dodie
3 likesI had covid last year and it was horrible!
0 likesHey dodie, I'm happy that you have making videos as a strategy to keep the anxiety at bay. Keep doing it, if it helps you!
3 likesThank you for posting a more serious video though.
0 likesAre you fortunate to be in the country you are in?
We all are trying to make do with what we have, and being able to laugh or make someone else laugh is a precious gift
can you do a tutorial of how you did the stars on your nails?

Pretty pretty video with a lovely message
0 likesI do think you're very good at this lol
0 likesI mean… fair enough, but, like… people need to hush themselves 🤦🏻
4 likesI enjoyed the light hearted stuff and I disagree with the people who sewed doubt about it. I guess no one should ever be allowed to have light hearted anything while suffering exists... ugg.

1 likehave you ever thought about making the kind of videos like hailey elizabeth or d'angelo wallace? I think you'd be quite good at it!
0 likeswhy am i crying :( maybe it's because covid ruined my life, physically and mentally (grief fucking sucks) AAAA
0 likesPersonally I didn't think your videos were insensitive at all. There are so many horrible things happening all the time, but that doesn't mean you have to be deathly serious every time you talk about them.
0 likesIt's nice of you to acknowledge your privileges, but also (everyone, not just dodie) don't apologize for your coping mechanisms. I don't see the harm in making silly little videos to to pass time
0 likesim too young for a vaccine and have no immune system and my mum is on chemo so we will be told to sheild when they lift the restrictions , when they could just keep mask wearing and social distancing in place while tings open up
0 likesI agree with the other nut jobs on here that think you are being paid to act like you have covid! sarcasm

0 likesI think its fucked up that people had to comment on your light hearted videos, youre just trying to make the best of a bad situation. Its not like they were main channel videos. I am sorry about the negativity you received, I don't think you should be too hard on yourself. Just keep swimming.

0 likesSomeone very close to me had covid, and it wasn't that much of a bother for them, probably because their symptoms aren't so bad. They felt a bit sick, and they felt light headed. I'm not saying that you shouldn't be careful, I'm just saying that a lot of people felt that bad and different people have different experiences, and clearly, the ones who have worse experiences than others get a hell ton of attention. Just putting that out there
