Amazing movie! Along with ALOT of references to not only g4 but eqg as well. The songs were amazing and a couple are on par with Broadway in my opinion. Can't wait for the series and here's to a hopefully long run of g5!

I think that after credits scene was showing off earth pony magic. Which is something I really hope they explore more in the show that they’re going to have. Because in all honesty they never really talked much about the kind of magic in earth pony had in G4. Just like in this movie they seem to just focus on the magic that a unicorn and a Pegasus had.
Exactly what I was thinking. Everypony throughout the entire movie — including the Earth Ponies themselves — acted as if there had never been any such thing as Earth Pony magic. And when Zipp showed Sunny and Izzy the abandoned station, she said, "It's as if everypony just… forgot."
This leads me to the tentative theory that the clear depiction of the Memory Stone from The Forgotten Friendship among Argyle's research materials might possibly be more than just a random, meaningless reference to G4.

When I heard Daniel Ingram didn't write the songs for this movie I was kinda nervous, but the New Generation lives up to its predecessor in all aspects. Great songs, awesome cast of actors and their characters, and amazing animation. The only thing bugging me is all the plot holes, and unfortunately we have to wait an entire year for the new series to come out before we get answers. But this was a great way to kick-start Gen 5!
When I think back on this movie critically, I've got a fair number of quibbles and issues with it, but while watching it, I'm just having too much damn fun to care about most of them.

You’re back, yay! Also I saw the movie too, I thought it was good/decent. I still prefer the version I grew up with though (G4) but, I actually liked it, I was invested in the story and had a good time while watching it. Although I kind of predicted the thing about the crystals once they were introduced. (Trying not to spoil the crystal part for people who haven’t seen it) But, yeah, I like the movie and look forward to G5.
Unfortunately Zipp & Pipp's characters ended up like Fluttershy & AJ's characters where they didn't get enough attention. The end did feel kinda rushed as well.
I don't really want to compare it to the G4 movie too much since that movie was juggling 7 seasons worth of lore, already established main characters and a few other things. In comparison to this one where it just needed to introduce the new characters & world.
Overall I give it a 9/10.
P.s I also liked the music but I haven't figured out which song is my least favorite yet.
Ik, I’m so sad that Pipp and Zipp didn’t get a lot of screen time :( I hope we see them interact more in the series. And I wanted to mention that AJ is one of my favorites from G4 so it kinda makes me sad that she’s so underrated😭❤️

Absolutely loved this moive Izzy is my favorite she reminds me a lot of pinkie and rarity and hopefully we see more of that in the series the raping section was so pinky like history of the wonderblots I don’t know if you noticed in the beginning but the floating lantern was pretty much a reference to Legend of Everfree i’m really glad to see your reaction to this movie and you liked it I can’t wait for this series to come out i’m still a little torn on sunny becoming an alicorn part of me wanted her not to because she would stand out because in G4 earth pony’s we’re never really considered magical and if a Earth pony like sunny brought it back it would have been cooler but on the other hand we finally got to see pony get a horn and wings so that was cool I still love sunny she’s probably my Second favorite character & for the rest I’ll have to see more them in the series So thank you for reacting to this and as sunny and her friends would say

This is a fantastic movie. Izzy is the best of the five but Hitch comes really close. The angry mob song has to be the best one in the movie. The use of dark humor is fantastic.
I think what I'm most excited about is if any g4 villains come back evil or not and if any of the immortal characters from g4 are gonna be in the show. Also am I the only one who likes zipp more than rainbow dash? She doesn't seem as cocky or egotistical.

I'm pretty sure that both Zephyr Breeze and the town Zephyr Heights were just coincidentally named after the old-fashioned word for a gentle breeze — the same way that Rainbow Falls wasn't named after Rainbow Dash, but both were named after rainbows.
@The Black Queen I'm not 100% convinced that we've determined the positions of G5 locations in relation to the G4 map, but this one's a pretty safe bet, since Cloudsdale appeared to be over the plains, and Zephyr Heights is on a mountaintop (obviously because Pegasi lost the ability to cloud-walk at some point).
The only G4 locations that were referenced by name were Manehattan and Neighagara, on the destination board in the abandoned station. So these must have existed concurrently with Bridlewood, Maretime Bay, and Zephyr Heights, at least for some time. There's also an entry for something starting with "Mt. Equ…", but I can't remember anything like that, offhand.
@The Black Queen Yes, I've seen that theory, but as I said, I'm not 100% convinced. There's little hard evidence, and the depicted coast lines don't really line up very well (as they wouldn't, after several centuries, realistically speaking). It just feels highly speculative, and I have the sneaking suspicion that it's mostly based on the fact that "Maretime Bay" and "Horseshoe Bay" both have the word "bay" in their name. 😉
@Sebastian Weinberg "Centuries" really isn't really that much time for land to drastically change. There are still caves in which early humans inhabited that existed during the Ice Age with their cave drawings still existing.
@The Black Queen The land not really, that's true — the coastline, on the other hand, can and does change quite readily over that timeframe. Extreme floods erode away whole swathes of countryside, practically overnight, while elsewhere silt accumulation builds up new land, just waiting to be colonised by topsoil and plant life. Not all coasts fluctuate strongly over time, but many are quite fluid, even on the short timescale of a mere couple centuries.
@Sebastian Weinberg Rivers and Lakes, yes. Oceans and Coastlines, unless some drastic flooding happened, it's not likely to change as much on a large scale. Settlement grounds on the east coast of the US from the late 1400s are relatively unchanged, only a bit higher in sea level.
@The Black Queen As a counter-example I'd like to point you to the Dutch coastline and how it changed from 1300 to 1600. Two massive, catastrophic floods completely changed the shape of the coastline. The Dutch have spent the last 400 years slowly clawing back some of what the sea took from them, by means of dikes, drainage pumps, and desalination. Look, this is not some "controversial topic" where the science is still debated. Coastlines change. Some very slowly, some so fast that visible changes can be detected within a single human lifetime. Most of it is gradual, due to erosion and accumulation, but sometimes natural disasters like floods, tsunamis, and earthquakes create huge changes almost overnight.
So either Equestria's coastline didn't change significantly, in which case Sunny's map doesn't fit the proposed location on the east coast — or it did change enough to fit Sunny's map, in which case the question becomes, "Are there enough fixed inland points to be certain of a match?" My personal feeling is that the answer to the latter question is "no". Sunny's map has only three points, all three of which did not exist (at least not under those names) in G4, and both maps are imprecise and vague — more like artist's impressions of what maps look like than actual cartography (which is, of course, what they really are, in our reality).
I know you're a busy guy but if you ever want some S tier fan content to react to/check out I'd highly highly recommend watching SoGreatandPowerfuls music videos. Start with the Standard Model album and go on to the album called S2. This is something no ponyfan wants to miss, especially if you're a music guy, shit will make you cry for days lmao.

You’d think that since Boulder Media is now the one in charge of this MLP film, they’d incorporate that new animation design of the Mane Six for where Season 10 never happened in animated form? It’d be perfect if it ended with Season 10 in that new style as the comics had new adventures that would explain what did happen leading up to “The Last Problem.”
It was revealed last year: Spring 2022 - 44min special Fall 2022 - G5 Series Season 1 Part 1 Spring 2023 - G5 Series Season 1 Part 2 Fall 2023 - G5 Series Season 2 Part 1 Spring 2024 - G5 Series Season 2 Part 2 It could change, but so far that's the schedule.

I mean, the movie is objectively better than the G4 one, at least if you believe Rotten Tomatoes, 91% vs 47% and I happen to agree. Makes me REAL hopeful for the upcoming show.

Personally I think this was just ok. It made FIM irrelevant and even with the little bit of throw backs insulted the ponies we grew to love. First we start with all areas of equestria have different names. Then we see that not only do all 3 types of ponies not get along anymore ,but the school of friendship is nowhere to be seen. Nor is twilights castle. Then we no longer have princesses that run things, but the Pegasus have a queen that we have never heard of. Plus unity crystals we have never heard of. If all that isn't bad enough now they have cell phones and social media. Talk about a missed opportunity for a new generation they should have went off family of the characters we all love. The cmc's , flurry heart, little cheese, the cake twins, ect.....plus where are all the other creatures. Changeling, hippogriffs, discord, ect... but now we have flying rats.
Watching your reaction now, and I see you were wondering where you've heard Sprouts angry mob song before, and it's from "Self Esteem" by the Offspring. They literally copied the song for the chorus. Just listen to the first few seconds of Self Esteem and you'll see
I'm glad you're back, but this movie is wretched. There's barely any tension, and the only two characters I liked even slightly were Hitch and Sprout's mother. Izzy is just an off-brand Pinkie Pie, with half the IQ. She's cheerful despite coming from a gloomy place, and even performs a rap, but cringeworthy this time.

I think the movie was terrible. The 3D style was boring compared to 4G's 2D Art style. The new cast is really boring, the story does not make any sense aka ponies are racist now? So Twilight fucked everything up as "Princess of Friendship" and ruler of Equestria?
So...still no explanation to why twilight was a failure and the 3 pony races separated or why there wasn't any windigos? It was better than I thought it would be but its lacking to much. And sjw propaganda is always a turn off for me. If this is a sequel to g4 it doesn't make sense.
If this was a standalone movie, I can see what you mean, but since we know this is just a beginning, I feel like that's where the series comes in. It wouldn't make much sense to explain and reveal everything in the "first episode" would it?
@Petross808 but its not, its a sequel to "friendship is magic". We already have an established history of what happens when the 3 pony races aren't united. A good writer should explain why things are different. For example, the pony races no longer get along so the magical windigos bring on an ice age so all magic is sealed away to end the ice age, I just came up with a better explanation then nothing in like 2 seconds.

There's little hard evidence, and the depicted coast lines don't really line up very well (as they wouldn't, after several centuries, realistically speaking). It just feels highly speculative, and I have the sneaking suspicion that it's mostly based on the fact that "Maretime Bay" and "Horseshoe Bay" both have the word "bay" in their name. 😉

Extreme floods erode away whole swathes of countryside, practically overnight, while elsewhere silt accumulation builds up new land, just waiting to be colonised by topsoil and plant life.

@Sebastian Weinberg Rivers and Lakes, yes. Oceans and Coastlines, unless some drastic flooding happened, it's not likely to change as much on a large scale. Settlement grounds on the east coast of the US from the late 1400s are relatively unchanged, only a bit higher in sea level.

0 likesTwo massive, catastrophic floods completely changed the shape of the coastline. The Dutch have spent the last 400 years slowly clawing back some of what the sea took from them, by means of dikes, drainage pumps, and desalination.
Look, this is not some "controversial topic" where the science is still debated. Coastlines change. Some very slowly, some so fast that visible changes can be detected within a single human lifetime. Most of it is gradual, due to erosion and accumulation, but sometimes natural disasters like floods, tsunamis, and earthquakes create huge changes almost overnight.
So either Equestria's coastline didn't change significantly, in which case Sunny's map doesn't fit the proposed location on the east coast — or it did change enough to fit Sunny's map, in which case the question becomes, "Are there enough fixed inland points to be certain of a match?"
My personal feeling is that the answer to the latter question is "no". Sunny's map has only three points, all three of which did not exist (at least not under those names) in G4, and both maps are imprecise and vague — more like artist's impressions of what maps look like than actual cartography (which is, of course, what they really are, in our reality).

1 likePersonally I think this was just ok. It made FIM irrelevant and even with the little bit of throw backs insulted the ponies we grew to love. First we start with all areas of equestria have different names. Then we see that not only do all 3 types of ponies not get along anymore ,but the school of friendship is nowhere to be seen. Nor is twilights castle. Then we no longer have princesses that run things, but the Pegasus have a queen that we have never heard of. Plus unity crystals we have never heard of. If all that isn't bad enough now they have cell phones and social media. Talk about a missed opportunity for a new generation they should have went off family of the characters we all love. The cmc's , flurry heart, little cheese, the cake twins, ect.....plus where are all the other creatures. Changeling, hippogriffs, discord, ect... but now we have flying rats.

Izzy is just an off-brand Pinkie Pie, with half the IQ. She's cheerful despite coming from a gloomy place, and even performs a rap, but cringeworthy this time.

If this was a standalone movie, I can see what you mean, but since we know this is just a beginning, I feel like that's where the series comes in. It wouldn't make much sense to explain and reveal everything in the "first episode" would it?
4 likes@Petross808 but its not, its a sequel to "friendship is magic". We already have an established history of what happens when the 3 pony races aren't united. A good writer should explain why things are different. For example, the pony races no longer get along so the magical windigos bring on an ice age so all magic is sealed away to end the ice age, I just came up with a better explanation then nothing in like 2 seconds.
