To be quite frank, there's a segment of your audience that sees you as a musician first, and as a vlogger/entertainer/activist/what-have-you second. We would love to see you grow as an artist. We'd gladly support you on other platforms that allow you to continue writing inspiring music and growing your base without having to deal with algorithm issues or dRaMa. Hope this makes sense lol.
doddlevloggle yess! And although I miss some of those monthly vlog things bc they were really cool creatively I see now that you're putting all your creative energy into your music and of course! Of course it is your passion ! People need to understand that better
I'm definitely part of this "segment". I'm hoping it's a large segment, because when it comes to writing (very) emotional non-Broadway songs I think dodie is second to none right now.
this is a video about how if the platform “youtube” gets too shit to be on i will just upload my content on another one! so basically, if you define “quitting youtube” as stopping sharing and creating, then I will not “quit youtube” (i might take breaks from creating tho). but if you define it as leaving the platform “youtube” then maybe i will someday!
I think the concern of a lot of people is that we know that your YouTube is genuinely you. Videos feature your friends, are edited by you, and are relatable instead of always marketable. I understand that those may have to take a back seat as music grows in popularity, but I think we all hope that you stay true to yourself and don’t get swallowed up by the music industry
doddlevloggle i’ve been debating on what to put first: building a successful YouTube channel or music. Both of which are important to me, but one has to be more important. Looking at this, through helping yourself find a balance, you helped me realize that music is what I love and YouTube is a tool for sharing it. Thank you so much and I wish you the best in your music and media careers ❤️
I love you Dodie! You are a wonderful and talented human being whose art and content has helped me through my struggles with mental health. Thank you for that. I support your art and will continue to support even if you decide to leave the platform of "YouTube". <3
Dodie, I think you're the greatest person I've ever met in my life and you have helped me keep positive and happy the past few years. I've always wanted to meet you and just see you as the amazing character you are, however I'm a boy and just because I watch you I get laughed at because you're a 'girl YouTuber'. Despite this I just want you to know that I exist, which will make me happier. I love you!
I love your music and the content you’ve made over the years so much. If you decide to leave this platform, I will respect that completely and support you the best I can elsewhere. But I’ve gotta say, as someone who’s only forms of social media are YouTube and Spotify (if that even counts) it’s going to really hard to keep up with your content. I don’t want to lose you somewhere along the way of life because you no longer upload, and I’ll always try to keep up with your creative content, but if you do decide to leave youtube all I ask is to let us know through a video here so I (and others without social media) dont sit aimlessly waiting for you to come back. Xx
A lovely, concise monologue on why and how people move on from the area that they originated from; if a platform can no longer support the individual (either through personal development or changes in the platform itself) then there should be no shame in shifting towards one that does. You articulated that very well and I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say that we're going to support you in whatever way we can, whether it's watching ads on your videos or buying your music. <3
Also, small side note, but you're allowed to say that you're a professional musician now! People pre-order your music and hype over your merch, I'd say that counts you in the big-leagues!
Maria Anna Damn right we do! And this weird little community of gays and misfits won’t fall apart I’m sure, we’ll rock up to every tour and concert! ❤️
I see younger musicians have one or two songs on YouTube but I think for many it's easier to be discovered on Spotify. YouTube doesn't seem to be accociated with music anymore ,i guess people prefer to easily be seen on Spotify. However YouTube allows a community to be formed which I'll be sad to lose because of the new algorithm and the way the platform works.
Salem The ukelele More famous artists have started off of here, just aren't as well known for it. Alessia Cara and Charlie Puth were both youtubers. Shawn Mendes grew an audience here (but started on Vine). Justin Bieber was discovered off of youtube
Salem The ukulele Grace became famous because of X-factor. Lots of popular musicians started off oh Youtube: Tori Kelly, Alessia Cara, Shawn Mendes (fist on Vine), Troye Sivan (I think of him as kind of an exception because he had 2 million+ subs on youtube before he was signed), Charlie Puth, literally Justin Bieber. Also 5 sos and The Vamps, not sure. Nina Nesbitt, Gabrielle Aplin, Lewis Watson
Sarah Derksen yeah I've discovered so many bands because well ... That's what I'm on there for. They give you recommendations for music whereas on YouTube it's mainly vlogs etc.
I think there's a growing number of music artists being founded on Spotify, whereas there seems to be a decline is YouTube musicans. People such as cavetown quickly moved to Spotify and posts more vlogs than music on YouTube. Bands such as The Faim, Glass animals , the propellers. All based on Spotify and glass animals now has a huge following due to this, YouTube definitely helps ( one of glass animals songs was a meme for animators) but it's easier to get music out onto Spotify, I'm not sure about pay on Spotify but it's probably better as well
my first thought when I saw the title went to troye, but honestly he's still one of my favourite artists and I'm so proud to see how far he has come to! how crazy
A Proud Phil Lester It worked out well for him though, he released a very successful song and a good album. And he even recently collaborated with Ariana Grande in a song. That’s a big step. Good for him if it helps him pursue his career further, I will be happy for him. Sometimes you gotta let go. Best of luck to dodie and troye in what they choose to do with their careers and life.
i really like when musicians of youtube also do vlogs like you, it makes me kinda feel closer to you as a fan, if you ever quit i'll understand but boi i'd miss your vlogs so much
I miss your YouTube content though!!! 😫 not even just the music stuff but all the rest. I fell in love with your channel after i watched your "how to make me tea" video 😆😆💗
Yeah there were a lot of them in this video, and they were all at around the same time! There were like three or four within a 5 second time period lol.
Dodie, everybody needs a break sometimes, you are a talented musician who needs to spread the word! Youtube isn't highly associated with music like it was back then, if you leave, yes we will be sad, but as long as you are happy, that's all that matters. Don't put your future in the hands of your viewers <3 I love you <3
youtube is one of the ways to know the musicians in a more personal level than just music. and it's their choice to let people to know them in a more personal level. (than just music)
I selfishly miss hearing your voice in this medium as often as we have in the past, but I’m also deeply excited to see what you work on whilst you’re not here. I’m just happy to follow your journey. 💕
hey bb!!! i get this!! my heart dropped a little at the prospect of you not making videos on here anymore but then i realized that 1. videos can exist in other places and 2. you, in all your musically talented glory, deserve to be successful in that industry. and obviously it’s unfair and sad that this could be something that’s holding you back, but the reality is that that’s true, so leaving (eventually) almost makes sense?? i’d still miss u tho. ily 💘
this is a very kind comment :') but I don't think I want to sacrifice the thing I love and the thing a lot of people who know me love (creating online)
1:36 I thought she was bursting into song.😁 But this is really interesting. Honestly, YouTube is my favourite platform for musicians, especially if they vlog too because I like to know what type of person they are.
I really, really hope you don't quit any time soon, but i'll understand why you did if you do. For the past couple years you've been one of my biggest inspirations creatively, artistically, and even in fashion and how i do my makeup. I know (or at least hope) that your videos won't disappear if you leave, but i really do feel like you're one of the most down to earth and honest creators on this godforsaken website and it would be a shame to lose you. I'm grateful for all that you've done and can't wait to see what you do and where you go next 💗🌷
i just love everything about you, how aware and woke you are, how one of a kind you are! I LOVE YOU DODIE!! you're honestly one of the best youtube-based musicians in my perspective, thank you for doing what youre doing!
so this is probably going to get lost in the comments,, but i think it’s important for you to know that we support you for who you are. we not only fell in love with your music but also with the young girl who had the courage to put herself in front of a camera and share her fears with the world. i think that your true fans will support you and love you for whatever decision you choose to make, as long as it makes you happy. i understand why you would choose either side and i think that as long as you keep doing what you love and being true to yourself, people will always love n support♥️
dodie I’ve never heard of music like yours before , you’re so talented , and because of you I came out to my mum and my dad as bisexual. You’ve really Helped me a lot 💓 I love you x
This is a legitimate concern for small musicians. YouTube is the only platform i currently have to try and start my music career. But honestly it's gone downhill lately and I'm not sure If i want to continue using it. Is the era if youtube over?
honestly I don't know? I think if you use it right then you can build a community that is great. However; the more you dip into the youtube audience pool (by appealing to them) the bigger you'll grow - but then some youtube audience traits start to seep in and it can get a little confusing to yourself and to labels etc on who or what you are, youtuber or musician
i personally would love for you to keep making videos here because i feel like thats the way to break that "oh ur just a youtuber not a real artist" stigma, artists like you showing that coming from/starting from yt isnt a bad thing and there's a lot of real talent on here. BUT at the end of the day its ur life&decisions and im gonna keep on supporting you on any platform you wanna be on even if its simply spotify and itunes<3
I love this community! I was scrolling through the comments and saw so many fellow “dodie supporters” (idk what else to call them lol), and I believe no matter what platform you decide to use, you’ll still have plenty of loving members of the community here for you :)
I love how genuine & real you are and so is your music - please never quit, you're an inspiration ❥ but I think there is one major reason worth mentioning here too - it is incredibly hard to get your music noticed on YouTube now. I make weekly videos & put a tone of work into them, but it hardly get's any attention.. I think that's a very legit reason for someone to quit. I'm not going to though. Hell or high water these videos will keep coming hahaa..
I try to take a zen approach to it and not become attached to musicians or other content creators. Too many times I've been burned when someone chooses to stop updating for whatever reason, and I had to realize that their work and time is their own and I should be grateful for the experiences that their efforts allowed me to have. You probably will stop posting to Youtube at some point, either because you'll change, or the platform will, or both, but I'm glad I get to listen to you, both to your music and your vlogs.
BTW TO WHOEVER IS READING THIS: YOU ARE A GORGEOUS LITTLE SUNFLOWER AND I HOPE YOU HAVE AN AMAZING DAY! DO THAT THING YOU WANT TO DO! EAT AN EXTRA SLICE OF CAKE! YOU DESERVE THE VERY BEST!
i love you so damn much dodes! 💛will always support you no matter what. wherever or whenever you want to share things with us on any kind of platform. keep shining my love ✨
Dodie your beautiful. If u quit YouTube I still love you and I know that everyone will support u in whatever you choose. Youtube has a million different types of people uploading every day, but you a loved by so much people and if there true supporters like me and my friends then they will support you more then they ever did. I love you with all my heart.❤️
I’ve been thinking about this for a while, that it really sucks that there are no actual valid alternatives for YouTube on the market :( Vimeo was popular for a while but people labeled it as “YouTube for hipsters” and it just kinda dissolved off the radar of the general public. I wish there was an alternative, maybe smaller, but something, YouTube desperately needs some competition. But with its integration with google and google being everybody’s primary search engine, I don’t see how it’s gonna get any in the foreseeable future :( Tl;dr things are changing for the worse and I am sad.
We love you so much Dodie and we will accept and love you the same even if we see you as a YouTuber or Musician! Even if you quit YouTube we will cheer you on your journey to success! WE LOVE YOU! 💛
Oh Dodie, I love you a lot, you and your content make me happy so I hope you choose to do whatever makes you feel more happy and comfortable. We are going to support you!
I enjoy any content you create! whether its on youtube or through music! I will say though that ill miss your videos! they are very relaxing and calming! but if it means putting more time and effort into being a professional musician i think that would be lovely!
YouTube is such an incredible platform, especially for musicians! Being in the business side of the music industry, YouTube helps a tonne in allowing artists to be seen/accepted by labels, etc because, all be it sadly, numbers matter. But it also allows artists to be more DIY about there music career, which is only a thing that's happened recently, that I think is super cool! I understand being branded as a 'youtuber' by the outside may have it's negatives, but within the industry, I think it's seen as majorly a positive thing! Idk I love your music and your content and YouTube has provided a massive platform and I love that! Keep doing you! <3
So, what are you saying? Are you taking a break from YouTube, quitting entirely or is it still undecided? Also, what other platforms (aside from Spotify and social media like Instagram) are you uploading your music to? (I'm curious)
I love your music so much. I can’t lie when I say that your voggle content was usually the kind of stuff to make me smile and feel good when i’m down. I’ll miss it, but it’s your path and we’ll definitely follow you on it
I love your content so much, you’re so talented even if you did quit YouTube I would still support your music. I’d like to thank you for all the music you have written that has brought me joy, I have never not been excited to see one of your notifications pop up. You are and forever will be my favorite singer♥️
I can never see you leaving YouTube completely. It’s your roots! Unless it stops making you happy, of course!! I love seeing your videos in my sub box and love everything you share with us.
It is sort of upsetting to see people leave YouTube in general and for good, or they re-brand in such an obvious way. I know this isn't the case, and I know it's probably just all in my head, but any content that they release after leaving YouTube or after re-branding feels disingenuous. I don't want to name names, but I think some people have gotten that vibe from other popular artists on here. I know that these people aren't bad people for doing what they've done. There is a point, though, that it feels like you've lost an old friend forever. For some people, the YouTubers they follow are the only stable facets in their lives. In short, I think it'd benefit everyone if a person aiming to be an ex-YouTuber or aiming to re-brand gives out a video saying that they're going to do so and the reason why. I know that subscribers are often told they should just be grateful for the content given them by the YouTubers they follow, and that's usually the basis of pretty much every argument for why YouTubers don't do what I mentioned above, but I think subscribers deserve some things. What I mentioned above is one of them.
i always view you as a musician first! always!! i can imagine how difficult it must be to explain to higher-ups that u are in fact an actual musician and not the “stereotypical youtuber” that mainstream media has painted all of you to be. you’re a legitimate musician, but you also happen to share your life via this platform bc it’s easier to reach out to your audience! if u do decide to leave this youtube all together, i would 100% support you! youtube itself has been hanging on quite the thread for a while so something like it crashing and burning wouldn’t be so much of a surprise lol.
but i’d really miss this type of content that you share. it’s a quality of youtubers that i’ve grown to be fond of, how they are able to genuinely express themselves to a camera and not put on a show just for the sake of views. you’re one of the creators here that still do this!! i love that so much about you!! <3
doddleoddle is the girl who posts videos on youtube to share her life to her ever growing audience! dodie is the talented musician who’s gonna go out there playing sold out shows around the world! you “quitting youtube” (i.e. not posting on this platform) wouldn’t at all take away from who you are. it’s just a matter of finding a different platform to share your life with us. :)
Please don’t quit. The music industry is toxic and there is so much evil in it, it has killed so many people and so many talented beautiful souls.
You already have an extremely large following and by definition you could already be considered a celebrity in some people’s view. But because of the platform, it is different to being really famous like traditional musicians are. If it’s overwhelming to have your following which I guess it is, then you can only imagine what it’s like for artists who essentially can’t go out in public because everyone will recognise them.
Being famous can be really difficult and horrible and it’s dangerous. Amy Winehouse said she’d give it all back just to walk down the street without hassle. You are smart and strong but still vulnerable and so many people would want to take advantage of you to make money.
Your so lucky you always have this platform and these people to fall back on. It’s special and although people change and you might now want to create as much or even at all for long periods of time, you don’t want to loose this if you’re going to enter the dark world of mainstream music.
I’d love to hear you on the radio or in the charts to help share good music in a sea of mass produced copy-pasted songs. But selfishly, I wouldn’t want that to happen, I’m happy listening to you on Spotify and YouTube, I don’t want to think that your part of the music industry. Something very sinister underlines today’s music industry and its so so sad. I hate to be “that person” and say all pop music is bad, and I love a few Taylor swift songs or what not, but I still know the best music comes from talented people like dodie making it rather than from mainstream record companies.
The used to be such artistry in singing, people like Sarah Vaughan who could take your breath away. But people like her don’t get record deals. They just choose the most attractive singers, someone writes them songs and they have to sing them, and then they get awards and millions of dollars. Don’t get me wrong some of the music is good, but it’s all a bit sick if you think about it.
As long as your are happy it's okay!! I love your music, I love your videos, I've always felt really connected to you therefore I really enjoy watching them, to listen to your mind, thoughts, life stuff (apart from music).
I have just recently come upon your youtube and I love how you work through your projects, display your talents, and talk about your life. I relate to so many of your storys and your music it makes me want to cry with joy seeing that I am not crazy or alone with these feelings.Thank you s very much for this contribution to my life and if you decide to leave its your choice, live your life and thank you for being a ray of sunshine in mine <3
Dodie, your videos are one of ever so sparse ones I get excited to see in my sub box every time! You're so refreshing and tackle interesting topics in such a real and down to earth way. I think people can tell you're being genuine and that's why you deserve all the subscribers you could get :)

I love hearing you talk about your life because I can hear the emotions in your voice, and I can’t get on any other social media, and if you were to leave I would be really really sad but you can do as you please
Ill always support you. You helped me trough tough times with your songs and opened the doors for me to experience an entire different music genre and the commutity it has. Thank you so much Dodie. You cant believe how important you are for me.
I love you so much Dodie, and you are the most beautiful, inspirational, kind, and forgiving person in the entire word full of billions of people. Dodie, you could shave all of your hair off and dye one of your eyebrows orange and green, and you would still be drop dead gorgeous. I hope you keep up the good work! Love your music and sense of humor!
Thank you for all that you've given us on this platform, no matter if you stop posting on youtube I'll still be so grateful for everything you've done and I'm sure so many others will be too. Thank you for all of your inspiration and beautiful music 💖
We all love your videos Dodie!! But if you ever do find it too much to do videos and musiccy stuff that's cool and we understand 😊 also mental health breaks are also good ❤
Do what makes you happy! Sure we’d miss seeing your adorable face every now and then telling us about your new tea preference and such, but those who truly care will always want you to be happy. That’s just how it is! ❤️❤️❤️
I love dodie. The music she creates is wonderful and beautiful. I will support her no matter what. I will always listen to and enjoy her music even if she never posts in social media again. However I also love dodie s personality and seeing her as a human with flaws I can relate to and enjoy. So I sincerely hope we still see her having fun and showcasing her personality. But more than anything I hope she does what’s best for her and doesn’t get hate for doing that 💟🌟🌟
As long as you are happy that’s all we care about! Do what makes you comfortable!! We will always be here to support you no matter what we love you Dodie ❤️
you are good at music, Dodie and do not deny it! you are amazing in every way possible and i look up to you so much! i even got bullied at school and got called a “knock if version of dodie clark.” but i took it as a compliment because i was honored to be called anything that associated you!! 🌻💛🌞
This video was really interesting! I like YouTube musicians because it’s like they’re more personal with there audience and their videos are more easily accessible (not everyone likes/uses social media like Instagram or snapchat). Also can you please do some sort of hair tutorial? I love it so much!
It’s saddening that others on this platform that have actual talents have to be categorized the same as those who disrupt it. Also with having to deal with demonetization for a perfectly good video. However, it’s awesome but bittersweet to hear that creators are exploring other ways to do what they love while earning a living, knowing they may not post as often. As long as you along with others feel good about what you’re doing, I’ll feel just as good as well.
AAHHH YESSSS dodie. And even though I’m going to be dissapointed becuase I don’t have social media and only this, upload on platforms YOU feel comfortable uploading YOUR content on. People don’t get to decide what you do or don’t do. I love your videos and always will but I’m turning 14 in 20 days (damn i just realize that’s absolutely TERRIFYING.) and my parents said I can have social media when I turn 14, but only one. I think I’m going to choose Instagram becuase you upload there and I can upload ukulele videos and stuff.🙃 also Grace VanderWaal is very active on insta. I will always circle my life around you, family, ukulele, Hawaii (oh how I miss it) and school. It’s the things I love most. (Note how I didn’t put friends. That’s becuase unfortunately I don’t have any.) and I have panic and anxiety attacks, and your the only thing who helps me recover from them quickly. God less your videos, thank you Dodie. I’m going to be honest with you, you’ve actually saved my life once and you’ll never know cuz you’ll never read this, but I love you. Thank you. I’m devoting my life to you.
You're videos on here have been something that I have always looked forward to and loved since I came across your channel in 2013. And if you decide to take a step back I will miss your (near?) constant presence on Youtube but I know you will be off creating beautiful music that I cannot wait to hear. I just wanted to say thank you for all of the wonderful content you have given us!'
whatever you end up doing, it’s alright. i’m doing just fine keeping up with you without youtube! and you seem happier being focused on bigger things and not being stuck in the rut that youtube has become for lots of creators. i’m really proud of how far you’ve come.
Literally been watching YouTube videos since I was like 11,im 18 now and it's so nostalgic to have grown up watching your videos and people like Emma blackery, Charlie,Carrie, Dan and Phil, h3h3, pewds. Never had the good fortune of meeting any of yous but the progression in you guys have all been different but really influential to my life. Obviously as I'm getting older I had so little time now but it's so nice everytime I revisit the humble feeling I get. I've suffered from Alot of abuse and neglect through my life which has caused a gargantuan range of mental health problems and found it hard to make friends and didn't have a stable home life, however everytime I went to YouTube as sad as it sounds it gave me a sense of hope and home that I never quiet felt before. I'm just another brick in the wall, I expect no sympathy or condolences but I just thought I would say thankyou. As I also understand to juggle multiple things at once can cause every thing to fall apart so when ever you need to take a break you should because love for yourself matters. ❤️🦋
When somebody asks who my favourite artist is, I always say dodie. I don’t really see you as a YouTuber who creates music, more so an artist who makes videos. What’s important though is how you perceive yourself, but I definitely see you as my favourite singer and artist, cause that’s what you are to me! :) Could be down to the fact that Record Labels who sign artists who come from YouTube don’t want them to continue with the content they make because they’re not really able to control it, or don’t want that association attached to them. Wouldn’t worry about not getting signed though! I think what makes you special is that you’ve made it so big as an indie artist and that’s what I admire you for! Literally my dream is becoming a successful indie artist.
Please you can't quit your my life and soul! This is all I have to see you since I'm too poor to go to your show! I also am heavily inspired by you and YOU were the one who helped me with coming out as bi! If you feel uncomfortable here, you can. Go but I don't want you to look ughh my heartttt
I’d be lying if I said your YouTube videos didn’t literally save my life (that’s weird sorry lol) but they did and if you leave I’ll of course miss them since they mean so much to me but seeing you grow into the performer you can be will make up for it almost completely because you deserve the success you are/can achieve no matter how you get it 🌸💕
your happiness means the world, and we'll support you no matter what your future endeavours may be. we may never meet in person but know i'm rooting for you in every way possible x
The only thing I would miss about you uploading on YouTube is the “raw” versions of your new songs. But I suppose those could be uploaded anywhere! Either way, your true fans will support you no matter what
I love you and will forever be thankful for everything you have put out into the world that continues to help thousands. What is important is your mental health and well being and what you are confirmed with doing. As long as you take care of yourself we will be happy. You're incredible for the way you use the influence (i think thats the right word) you have on people to share positivity and make a difference. ♡
Hey I've missed you😘 my life's been a bit crazy recently, my cat was put down and I felt awful but now I have an apprenticeship which I'll be starting soon and one day I'll be an accountant. But along with all of this I'm still watching all of your videos and loving you more and more ❤️❤️
Please don't leave! I live to watch your videos and I love you so much. I feel so connected to you when I watch your videos. I love your music aswell but it just wouldn't be the same on YouTube without you. You are my sun, moon and stars. You are basically my inspiration and I love you. You're so cool.
This has always been a place to put creative things, but beyond that we shouldn't be afraid to form our own relationships with it. If the creators I love stop making things on here it'll be a little sad to let go of that part of them, but it also makes room for them to create new things that I'll enjoy elsewhere. I hope if I ever stop making things here people will feel the same way.
Whenever I talk about dodie to someone I say “oh she’s my favourite musician” because that’s how I see her. As this wonderful musician who can break my heart with every single lyric in the best way possible. She manages to hit the nail with every song she sings and I connect with them so deeply. I also see her as a YouTuber. Dodie’s videos have helped SO MUCH it’s unbelievable. Dodie made me cry, laugh and both things at the same time. She made me think about things that would’ve never come up to me. She inspired me to play an instrument and start singing and to appreciate my body. I don’t think she should stop posting videos, although I understand perfectly why she might consider it. Dear dodie, your videos are what make this platform wonderful. But despite this, if you decide leaving it’s okay. We will be okay, not the same, but okay. We love you dodie
I haven’t watched the vid yet but it’s my birthday, you are my favourite music artist, I listen to your music when my mental illness is getting me down. I love your music so much and you as a person just ahh why are you so great Dodie btw my friends are sick of me singing “I have a hole in my tooth” bc we are doing GCSEs so it gets stuck in their heads in the exam.
Never quit you and your videos and you smile makes my day and so does your music but having more than one creative outlet music and YouTube make you and going to see you live is still the best thing that has ever happened and the best day of my life I love your work and you have helped me through lots and learning to play the ukulele to learn your music has too and thank you ❤️
I really love you so much dodie! I don't want you to leave because your videos are really helpful and make me feel good. I'd be okay if you left, and will respect your decsion, but I feel as though you are very helpful towards alot of people.
I feel like Dodie is literally the most relatable person, you know? I mean she’s just like me. She’s funny, cute, an introvert (totally fine btw. So am I), her songs are great, I love her singing videos, and her videos are the best. ❤️
These points are very interesting! I haven't heard/thought about a lot of them. It definetly helps in understanding the creators that do leave, break, etc. etc.
I extremely love your content. Im okay with you not posting ever. But hey, a post once and a while is nice. Your other videos are nice to rewatch. Just be you and focus on what's more important
I'll support you in whatever you choose to do. I love your beautiful content so much and I understand where you're coming from. Whatever is best for you, choose it. Whatever you do, you've always got this girl as a fan!!!!
I love your channel, but it’s not the fact that it’s on YouTube or even specifically the videos themselves. It’s just you as a person. I love your personality, your kind heartedness and your musical creations. I, and I’m sure many others, will continue to love you whatever platform you use to share with us.
You have always been a musician to me and you have also been a YouTuber to me , you’ve always helped me with your videos but you’re music always helps me aswell, you can still be a musician and be a YouTuber I believe and you are good at both as in both formats you help so many people and we will all forever be grateful for you, weather your making YouTube videos or weather your writing your songs we will all forever be grateful for you dodie
i love you dodie and would respect your decision either way ♡ i wish people understood youtube the way we do but they have no idea how many incredible creators are on here with a wonderful fanbase
I just found out about dodie last year and now she’s talking about leaving. Her songs, they got me through a lot. For the longest time I was able to see my life played in a song through her compositions and it helped with all the stress and depression that was going through my head before. Cause her songs make me feel... not alone. Thanks, Dodie.
as a musician on youtube I have felt discouraged before..because I put a lot of my energy and time on videos but I don't get much recognition and so I feel like my channel is stuck and not moving forward ..maybe thats why some of them leave youtube..
no matter whether or not you "leave" this platform, you can be reassured there will be myself and hundreds of thousands of others who will continue to follow (??? is that creepy) you on your musical journey
I don't even know how normal YouTubers do it, I wonder how a person with record deals and stuff is going to be able to pull off making videos and making professional music at the same time w/o losing quality. As long as you can make them and you want to make them, do it. I'd hate to see the day that your content here is forced just because your audience wants more of it. Your community is one of the best here on YouTube and I think that whatever you choose to do in the future, we'd be here to support you.
The idea of you quitting YouTube saddens me cuz your videos have helped me through a lot. Youre like a little ray of sunshine on my darkest days. I understand what you are saying as well, everyone needs a break now and then❤
Besides the stigma around being a Youtuber I also get that musicians need to brand themselves as, well, musicians to get record label-y type people to take them seriously + to be able to spread your music more amongst regular folks who might not be too familar with Youtube in general. I definitely think it's sad that we dont see the content we're so used to getting by them (and being more "connected" with them and their lives) but it's also bittersweet because I also want them (mostly you, dodie) to shine and get the recognition they deserve. I just. Miss your videos. Your hand clappy intros. Your soothing voice. You in general.
Hello dodie, my friend in my a capella group tweeted you to let you know that we’re turning Would You Be So Kind into an a capella arrangement for our new album!!! What I wanted to say is, I know it’s especially hard when discussing different platforms out there for you and your music. But I think the main reason people want to see you keep producing your music on YouTube in a way, as well as vlogging and letting us know how you are, is because it provides a certain level of intimacy that releasing a song on Spotify doesn’t always. ( ps love you and we will all let you know when our a capella album with Would You Be So Kind on it comes out :) )
As a very small (and hopefully growing😊) musician/YouTuber, I look up to you so much, and would even go as far to say that you inspired me to start writing my own songs and putting them on YouTube, I really hope YouTube can still be a place for musicians to share their hard work and for it to be recognised, I don't know any other place on the internet where this would be possible!!
I don’t want to sound or be dramatic, and I’ll still obviously support you and whatever content you make in whatever platform you choose, but I’ll miss your videos
The videos I loved most from you were your life videos, like story times in the bathtub and you building you loft bed. Stuff like that is what I always look forward too. Don't get me wrong, I love your music and I already bought tickets to your NYC showing, I will always love your music, but I also just like you as a person and videos that show such. If you ever want to just post videos of you making mac and cheese or pasta again I would so love to see that. I just hope you continue to post casual videos as such! <3 I love seeing you grow as a person.
I’m all for musicians moving on from YouTube if that’s truly what they’d like to do but I do miss the close community that comes with a musician that’s on YouTube. It feels more personal to have you upload a video and share part of yourself with us along with the music you create. Most musicians once they leave YouTube, they stop allowing us to be as close with them as we were before and it gives us a feeling of sadness to not really be able to see you in a more personal setting then in interviews or tweets. I love you dodie and I support you 100% so if you do move off YouTube, your fans will follow but we will miss this connection you’ve establish with your uploads . I don’t know if that makes sense but yeah. Love you 💙
Youtube started the fame for some of these musicians; our views that built their name/brand. Then they stop sharing their content with the ones that helped them grow their success in the first place. Seems a little unfair to me :/
But the reason musicians who started on YouTube have an audience to build upon to become "serious "is because of the platform and how all types of people can see your content. If they didnt want to be seen as a "youtube musician " they shouldn't have posted
I really wish there was a decent alternative platform to YouTube. Been having a lot of issues with it recently, and being unable to talk to support that can actually help is impossible
i get that it can be difficult to be taken seriously if you do put out videos but sometimes it seems like as soon as musicians get big they are suddenly 'too good' for youtube *cough cough troye*. it's kind of discouraging :(
I really love you dodie and i love your music and other vids you put out. If you do go, that's cool, it's chill. I will miss your other videos but it's your channel, your life, do whatever the fuck you want
do whatever makes you happy, and whatever helps you get your content out to the world, because your music and lyrics are beautiful and amazing and everyone deserves to know who dodie is, yes it would be sad for you to leave us, but for you to be happy and even more successful would be fantastic 💓💓
i love you, we love you no matter what decision you choose we will still support you. keep that on mind.

Hello Dodie, I discovered you on Spotify a year ago without previous knowledge of your role as a YouTuber. So, initially, I connected with your songs, with your voice and your role as a professional musician and artist. When I did find you on YouTube it was your music videos I was met with first and I thoroughly enjoyed being able to listen to your covers alongside your own songs. That is the beauty of YouTube for me, being able to see musicians and artists cover numerous songs in their own unique way. Discovering your vlogs on doddlevloggle deepened my view of you as the person you are. Just like I will search for Joni Mitchell interviews to gain insight into who she is and has been, YouTube and Instagram and other social networks allow us to connect and understand each other like never before. I felt (and still do) feel connected with you, you inspire an aspiring musician (🙋), and I have also been able to empathise with your experience of mental illness, your openness surrounding your sexuality, and your 'creative flair' in writing, video editing, exploring vocal practice, learning new instruments... It's a journey that you are on but that I walk alongside you in as I am on my own journey. It allows me to think about my own music, and it is a witness to the beauty of how music brings everyone (including fellow musicians!) together. Thanks Dodie for taking care, great effort and time in all you present to us here, and I look forward to seeing the rest of your musical journey! Warmest of wishes, Jen X
I fully support your decision, but could you let us know where we can find you when you do move platforms? I love your music and I don’t want to lose it. Keep being you and do what you think is best💕
Your videos have always sort of been there for me to watch throughout everything (when I’m depressed, when I’m happy, when I’m comfortable, when I’m stressed, etc.) because of how real you’ve been through YouTube. Although you put up boundaries (as you should) you’ve never been intent on hiding who you are and showing that you’re a real human being. It’s through that that I’ve really found solace in your videos. But at the same time, as an aspiring musician, I can see where the pressure for online musicians can come from. So if you take breaks, I absolutely won’t blame you at all. And if you decide to quit, although I’m sure I’ll be very sad and upset, I’ll still respect your decision as I respect all your decisions. Because this is your life and your channel. You should never feel pressured to do what any of us ask of you if it isn’t good for you.
It's been hard for me to be consistent, I do vlogs, share some of my music and tips for songwriting and production and some other random videos but than I get so busy in the studio, I haven't been able to find that balance, still working on figuring this out. Channels under 1000 Subscribers aren't able to monetize at all, which is pretty crappy. And anyone who says youtubers are lazy have no clue how much work goes into this. I feel it's still an amazing platform. All the best to you! <3
Victoria B ikr! He’s living his best life! So excited for his album!

As someone who's only just started posting music content on YouTube it makes me a bit sad to hear this. Is it worth me putting effort into getting my music onto this platform at all? :/ But I'm super glad dodie has other options so she doesn't have to rely on this entirely
I've just recently started youtube as a musician but now i am doubting whether to continu or not because you sure did make some points about not being taken seriously...
doddlevloggle Thanks for your reply, Dodie. I know we don't know what the future holds, but I hope your content is always here on Youtube. I think they're your friends (or you know them at least) but the last youtubers that have gone "mainstream" and deleted all/most of their content are Maisie Peters and Nicole Zefanya. And I know it's their decision to make, but as a fan you kinda feel "betrayed", it's like they take away some of your favorite songs that are like a piece of you (and they're not available anywhere else).
I understand completely, seeing as YouTube’s new algorithms aren’t doing anything to help creators who are actually doing something meaningful. It’s perfectly understandable to want to grow and change as an artist, and to move on to more mainstream methods of releasing music. And the way you explained everything was really helpful and insightful. I do hope you’ll still come on and do some of your sit and chat videos, because they’re really interesting and fun and it’s fun for your audience to get to know you more and to be able to communicate with you in the comments. (You have the most insightful and interesting comment sections ngl). That being said, your fans still support you no matter what, and we’re all really happy that you’ve accomplished so much as a musician. All that matters is that you are happy and have done what’s best for you and your career. You’ve done amazing things on YouTube and have helped change the way we see the platform and have been able to show people that there are creators with more meaningful and artistic content, not just a bunch of Logan Pauls running around. Whatever you choose to do, you’ll certainly make an impact. You do great things here on YouTube and I can’t wait to see what you’ll bring to other platforms. ❤️❤️❤️. ( I hope this makes sense lol)
As much as I would miss the crap out of you if you left youtube, I would definitely understand why you would do so. I support you all the way, no matter what path you choose to take, and I just wish that you are happy and enjoy whatever you choose to do. I love you queeeenn ❤❤
as much as i love you and your videos i would totally respect your decision to quit youtube. if you feel that youtube is now more of a chore than it was before then do what’s best for you. even if you leave, it doesn’t mean you can never return. you might come back after a couple years, you never know. either way, good luck and i love you
Noooo dodie I love ur vlogs and rambles and stuff ur so open abt stuff and ur acc a good role model that many ppl look up to bc ur on that milenial-gen z border
every single person that i follow on youtube deserves more, youtube was a wonderful platform idea (and could still be) but it has been reduced down to a horrible copy of the already horrible mainstream media. To be honest, hell yea i miss you sharing, cause is like not hearing from a friend for some time, but it's a good decision with what they are doing to the platform.
I totally get the stigma thing. I feel it myself when people ask me who that "dodie" is I'm talking about, and I try to describe you, I can't help to add that you're a Youtuber, and that does make them change their opinion on you directly. Makes it seem less "serious". Go do your thing dodie ☀
Alright Dodes. I absolutely adore you and your music, pretty much all of your content online. The only thing I have to say on this topic is... Sometimes as an audience it seems that musicians use views and viewers for money and to further their career, which is the point of youtube in many ways, so no fault there, but then it feels that once they have the views and the success- built on the platform of youtube- they disappear. It's like they will connect with their supporters via youtube videos until they have the recognition they want and then drop them. I'm not pointing fingers, because everyone should take any opportunity to make their dreams happen, but often the sold-out shows that help to further a youtube musician's career are mostly supported by their youtube viewers. On the other hand, some viewers can't go to shows because they can't afford it, the musicians don't come near them, etc. The ones at the shows supporting them may feel used once the musician quits youtube, because they supported them on this platform that's now abandoned, and those that can't attend shows feel abandoned because they no longer have this platform to connect with the musician. To sum up, to viewers it can be seen as they helped the musician get where they are, and the musician left them anyway. Again, not saying this is what you or anyone else that quits youtube is doing, but that's why some get upset about it. Lots of love xx
but yeah, I understand the hatred for youtube and stigma, though I fell like that's mainly in the UK and maybe USA but other countries aren't necessarily like that (France for example).
But yeah. No. Like please don't leave us without vloggy vids or sneak peeks at future songs or stuff like that. And I mean Snapchat and insta are cool but they're short and stories disappear quickly and… yeah. I don't know.
We love you <3
And yeah, the part about influencer is not a joke. Maybe if you can put it differently and just say that you're a musician but your youtube is more a social media presence like twitter, insta and stuff, can't that help? (i have no frigging clue tho) <3
honestly, I see you as a musician and barely as a youtuber because, as you said, you always posted music on your channels. the non-music videos, for me, are just you letting us into your world a bit more and showing your creative talents. you did a pretty good job establishing what you do is music from the start, and we all love it!
i totally understand those reasons! youtube has been low key shit lately bc of demonetizing the wrong videos and supporting those who, like sammy said, play it safe
i showed my friend a chapter of your book today because i couldn’t for the life of me figure out how to explain the spaced out being that i have been these past few weeks and although she couldn’t understand she grasped it a lot more so thank you xx
Dodie, I am currently reading your book and it is really helping me through a difficult time. Thank you for always being so simultaneously vulnerable and strong and sharing your light with the world. You have inspired me to start singing again. After my grandfather passed away I can’t seem to find my voice. I will continue to support you in whatever you do! Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
it really makes me mad that there is a stigma behind being a youtuber. There are so many creators out there , like dodie who make gorgeous content, and I wish the face of YouTube weren't rat looking people, but people with kindness and support and happiness. I also wish that when you would tell someone you do YouTube, they would say it's so cool and that you're inspiring people. Not just look away and look down at you
I WILL FIGHT FOR YOU TO STAY ON YOUTUBE BC THIS IS HOW I KEEP UP WITH YOU AND I WILL STILL SUPPORT YOU WHOLEHEARTEDLY IF YOU DO QUITE BUT THAT DOESNT MEAN I WONT MISS THE FUCK OUTTA YOU AND YOUR AMAZING COVERS AND ORIGINAL SONGS THAT YOU POST EEEEEEK
:(. I'll miss your lifey type vids like this one, those are my favorite videos you make. Love and support you, and maybe you could upload a video a year? Just throwing out ideas. One day I want enough money to buy your book and music. ❤.
I love your content oh so much and have for ages! But we are human and could move on, we’d love you no matter and will never stop listening to your music!! :>
I honestly think that YouTube is a great platform for sharing music, especially the fact that you have so many fans & your music is very damn beautiful goddess-like & popular. But obviously if you think you should move on, we will gladly support you (because I bought a dodie crop top on your website so that shirt is not going in the trash just cause you might leave YouTube) Yes im a die hard fan please notice me!! Anyway.. everyone will support you no matter what you do. As long as you keep creating, you're healthy, happy, growing & sharing your music with the world, we won't be disappointed. We will be happy that you're happy!! We love you, Dodie!!
I wanted to do YouTube for years and years but only started uploading videos in late 2016. More and more I just feel like I completely missed the window in which it was a viable platform. It just feels like screaming into the void nowadays and I absolutely hate that people like Logan Paul are being rewarded and supported and wonderful, authentic and actually nice creators don't even get a chance to shine.
I love you Dodie and I'm happy to jump ship as soon as you move to a different platform!
This is a very good insight. Thanks for sharing. I agree with the things you said. When a platform becomes saturated, stereotypes will emerge, and it's sad that because many of the most successful are like Logan Paul, I mean most have the kinda same style of content as his, that makes it the kind of content people assume or stereotype about people who are actively using this platform.
Anyway, please keep doing what you love and showing it to the world. Your music and the slices of your life are gem.
Some of my favorite artists are on youtube (yourself included), and I never would have found them otherwise. Probably half of what I listen to is artists from the internet and not major labels.
Please, please, please do not stop making videos. You have helped me so much in life advice and overall tips in life and I don’t know what I would do if I couldn’t hear your voice once in a while (not in a musical way) because it’s so soothing and calming. Whatever you decide, all of your fans will forever support your decisions even when you become a big-shot pop musician on the radio. 💛💛
Dodie I love you so much and your music please dont leave I will support you either way but plz dont quit because I dont have any social media to follow you on 😢😢
I know it's only a platform but if you do quit YouTube it'll feel very empty, no matter what you do on other platforms - I respect your choice, of course, I guess it's just a nostalgia thing after being subscribed to you for so long. I love you anyways, thanks for making YouTube a better place, and giving us a safe space in the middle of the chaos that this platform is becoming.
It’s funny I was just thinking about this and what your current thoughts are on it - whatever you decide to continue doing we will always support your endeavours. Minds, people, platforms do change but I’m positive your amazing creativity won’t. It will just evolve, which is something we all need to do to stay happy, and we need it so that we can always strive to improve and better know our craft. You have such talent Dodie and I hope everyone who meets you knows that :)
adkjladfaslf it's been such a lovely ride discovering and following your channel, i'm so happy that i got to be here for a portion of it. i love all your music and wish you only the best of luck in anything that you pursue =) truly you and your music have inspired me and helped me grow as a person, so thank you for everything
i was sad when troye quit youtube for music, but it can’t even compare to how happy and proud i am of how well his career is doing. the same goes for you, dodie. no matter where you are i’ll always be supporting you n your music :) x
I see you as a human being with her own choices and if you leave YouTube then the people who love you should support you.
Of course we will be sad when you do eventually leave but we will always remember you as the talented, bi girl, that is an inspiration to a lot of people.. also has her own colour.
while i completely understand musicians' perspectives on wanting to sound like a serious creator, the problem is that by all of the "legit" youtubers quitting, it leaves the logan pauls and other dumbasses to define the platform. so, by staying on youtube, musicians are helping to legitimize the platform and, by extension, themselves.
I do love your channel However this makes a lot of sense and I will totally understand whatever you choose to do... I follow you on instagram now so I see more anyway
I‘d completely understand if you‘d „turn away“ from youtube, because you want to be taken more seriously or because you just don‘t have the bloody time.
but I have to say: it would be sad to have less of you and to not have your ramble videos and cute little „i‘m making tea“ or „i‘m potting a plant“ videos. they make me (and I think a lot of us) feel very connected to you and it I feel like, knowing more of your life makes me understand your music better.
if she stops going to playlist and vidcon though i thiNk i might cry - i know she gets busy but conventions are an easy place to feel like you’re on the same level with the celebrity instead of completely inferior to them. you can hang out with cool people in a safe place and meet your idols!! i just think it’s rly important for her to keep meeting her fans and give them that opportunity
and i kNOW she gets busy and i can completely respect that but i do really hope she continues with youtube tyPe conventions for a least a couple more years
to me you're a youtuber. I've discovered you through your talking videos and vlogs and the music was just a bonus (I'm sorry I know it sounds bad but it's really how I feel). So if you stopped posting videos on youtube then I guess that I would just end up forgetting you. I'm sorry, I'm a huge fan of your vids and not a huge fan of your music because it's just not my cup of tea, it's not your fault. Just personal tastes !
youtube was the first platform I ever used to share my music and I used to enjoy it and had a decent following but I've sort of stopped using it because I feel like it's gotten too big and it's so much harder for your work to be recognized, especially as a musician. I don't know what it is that's changed exactly but it's disappointing cause' it used to be great for sharing music and growing. I've moved onto soundcloud lol
if you feel more comfortable quitting youtube, as a fan, I will support totally and follow to the other place/site/wherever you share your great musics! <3
I see you as a great musician and a YouTuber. Just because of those things doesn’t mean you are a bad person. You inspired me to get more into song writing and singing. And I am probably not the only one you inspired.
I find it so interesting to see when other people say that ‘you owe it to YouTube’ or be like ‘we deserve to have content’... like 💁♀️ It’s dodie’s life and she is making music so respect that??? Why is it so difficult for some people to understand that??
because you're a very beautiful person, both inside and out. We support you no matter what. But personally I think we'd all be very happy if you stayed. X
I LOVE your videos, and even though I'd understand if you left youtube, I'd miss you!! I wish youtube was still like it used to be, because this the only platform I can use to try and get people to listen to my music. (I mean, maybe soundcloud, but i don't know how to use it. And I don't think you can upload to spotify without a label or without paying, and as I am in highschool and have yet to get a job, that's an issue). I want to be able to have an audience without being annoying and being all "sub to me1!1!!1" but youtube focuses on the people who are ALREADY big and often the people who are big for ridiculous reasons like the Logan Paul people rather than the people like you with genuine talent. Anyway I'm trying to contribute to the conversation but it may just sound like I'm complaining so I'm going to stop now lol
About the "little self compliment" thing, I'm never sure when or how to give myself a compliment in public because if you say you're the worst you look like you're begging for compliments from others but if you say you're the greatest you come off as boastful and selfish, so what do I do
Youtube is a great way with connecting with people! Your brought yourself up creating things and posting them through Youtube. If it weren't for Youtube where would you be now? Like you said, it's been a very high platform for you and with what you do post here and you have had a huge fan base been created from Youtube. The material that you have created over the years has been inspiring to me and also many other subscribers! So many musicians are doing both (Youtube and Music) and I think it would help you to be recognised by even more people. I agree though everyone deserves a break once in a while. But do whatever makes you happy and whatever makes you want to think "I love doing this.. it is a passion" as cliche as that sounds, but think about what's best for you!
Here’s my two cents on this subject: YouTube has pretty much been my life for the past 5-6 years. In that time I’ve seen a lot of YouTubers come and go, seen the platform change, seen the demographics and mainstream content change, and it’s been a doozie. I’ve seen the rise and fall of FRED, Tobuscus, Smosh, Annoying Orange, Tyler Oakley, and many others. I’ve seen a ton of singers ghost the platform due them becoming famous or not famous enough. Troye Sivan was the first person I saw do this. I saw everyone listening to Wild and I thought “This is amazing PR for YouTube! Maybe he’ll bring YouTube/YouTube singers into the mainstream and everyone will respect being a YouTuber as a cool creative outlet as well as a legit job!”, but then he left YouTube the moment fame hit him. Now he tries to avoid YouTube at all costs and I’m still angry at him about it, but I’ve only had that grudge for, maybe, 4 years, so it’s fine. I mean, if one wants to stop making YouTube videos, that’s fine. If one got famous because of YouTube, and then immediately stop posting videos, delete or private the vlogs you made, and then only “talk to your fans” thru social media advisors, instantly renouncing YouTube and everything it stands for? That’s a no-go. I respect YouTubers that leave YouTube if they respect their supporters. If they tell them “Hey, I’m on indefinite hiatus from YouTube, so I might come back rarely, but I’m not gonna be on a schedule or anything. Tbh, I’m probably never coming back,” then that’s fine. Up and leaving without any form of goodbye and pretending like your YouTube days never happened and that YouTubers are below you? That’s disrespectful. Whenever it happens, whether respectfully or not, it’s still sad that you’ll never get to see that side of that person every again. You’ll see them on Twitter sometimes, but there’s a certain connection that you can have with a person on YouTube that you can’t get anywhere else. I think that this is the way that Dodie (not dodie) is going. I don’t think she is much longer for YouTube since she is on tour so much and she’s getting more and more famous, and not just from YouTube. While I wish her luck in the future, it makes me sad that we probably won’t see many more “doddlevloggles” before she gets super famous. I’m very happy for her, but it makes me sad that she’ll leave me and YouTube behind at some point soon like so many others have. At least she’s saying that she’ll be on a YouTube break, instead of slowly letting the channel die on its own. It hurts, man. dodie is one of the last YouTube musicians that I follow, because the channel lifespan is a lot shorter than almost any other, and no matter how it ends, it’s always sad. You as a fan are left in the Twitter replies among hundreds of others that will never see the light of day, yelling into to the void, hoping someone will see it and respond. I’ve been hurt too many times by YouTube musicians. Gamers are a lot less likely to break your heart. Well, I’m off to watch Jacksepticeye, Markiplier, and Game Grumps to drown my sorrow and loneliness thru playthroughs from people I’ve never met and will probably never meet. I was hoping to meet Dodie before she lost interest in YouTube, but I guess not. Bye Dodie, hello dodie. Goodbye void. Hope someone will hear me. Someone might reply within a year or two hopefully. - Sincerely, me from May 25, 2018
Hey, I know what you mean. It does suck when someone you've invested so much of your time in here just quits suddenly and doesn't really say goodbye to their subscribers. Even though they have no idea who you are, you do sort of feel a connection to them as they've shared so much of themselves and their lives on youtube. You've watched them grow and change and supported their endeavors. So it is sad and it does hurt when they leave and you never get a proper goodbye. Sure they're free to do what they want to do and maybe they don't "owe" us anything. But I totally get how you feel. hugs
Mind of Love I have, but there’s always been something in the way like “I don’t have time” or “My family will think I’m crazy talking to myself” or ”I don’t have a good enough camera”, but this school year I’m gonna go to college and have a dorm room, so I’m hoping to make videos then!
I’d also just like to say to the whole thread that I appreciate you all reaching out so much. When I was writing the main comment I was at a very low point. I’m much better now, and I’d like to thank y’all for being so nice and comforting to me.❤️
Hi Emily, glad to hear that you're feeling better now. 😊 Life is a series of ups and downs but stay strong and true to yourself and you will pull through. You seem like a nice person with a good heart. Good luck in college! ❤
I feel that its completely your decision... But tbh I would hate it if you left YouTube... I personally think that you are sooo soooo talented, and the content you make is awesome! I can relate so much to you its crazy! I have derealisation and depersonalisation, I love music, and a bunch of other things. Its honestly your choice... <3
Dodie, while I would miss you a hand full, I would totally understand and support your decision if you decided or decide to not post as often or didn't post at all. I love you, your music, and by no means what so ever associate you with people like logan paul :)
"When musicians quit Youtube, we're not missig them as "Youtubers", we're just missing the way in which they shared." I feel like this was (at least for me) the main point of the video. When creaters start creating on Youtube, it doesn't mean that when they "quit" Youtube they aren't sharing anymore, just the way they did it stops. I feel like I (as a person who watches creators on Youtube), shouldn't make Youtube into something more than it is. It's just a platform creators can share things on and nothing more. And there are other ways they can share and I certainly don't feel like they owe their public anything. They can decide how they want to shape their creativity and where they want to put it, that's kinda the point with sharing and creating, I think. It's not just for the people watching/listening/etc. (Rant over welp)

I think it's interesting that musicians sharing music on Youtube is seen poorly or unprofessional, since it's still sharing music. Does it matter the platform it's on? Are musicians expected to only share on music-centric platforms? Like, who care's how you "get known" or famous or whatever, right?
One of my good friends is a musician on YouTube (Tobias Wilden, check him out he’s cool!!) and it’s quite sad how people like him kinda fall through the cracks. Especially since he writes and plays instrumental music! He relies more on Soundcloud now than YT. YT is not friendly enough for people who solely do music or creative things of the sort. :’(
Either way, thank you for sticking around Dodie, and gracing us with your adorable personality <3 and of course, your music ;)
All I want is for you to be happy in the way you're sharing yourself. If it's your music, your videos, or even your Instagram stories. I just want you to be comfortable and happy with your platforms. If you do plan to leave or you just leave, we won't blame you but we will miss you. You don't have to share everything with us but we would like updates lol. Please do what makes YOU happy even if it makes others unhappy, because if you do what makes you unhappy then those who are happy would either not like that you are unhappy or are just bad people. That was a bad and confusing explanation but you see what I'm trying to say. If YouTube us ever making you unhappy or too stressed to the point where you feel it would be better to just leave, tell us, so we would understand more and even, if it's worth it, help. I love you Dorothy and I hope you understand that we are willing to let you go onto bigger and better platforms ❤
Sis I saw the title and my heart dropped. That sounds dramatic but I paused the movie I'm watching and just had to watch this. YouTube will forever bc your starting place, but if you need to branch out, then do it!! I'll just watch all ya old videos
if u wanna quit youtube that’s ur choice and that’s totally fine!! but just remember that u have created one of the most loving, beautiful communities i’ve ever seen here. ur videos will always bring love and joy to people like me. youtube has a looot if problems nowadays, but you are one of the ogs who make it 1000x better love u :)
its okay i you want to quit youtube or take a break as long as you dont delete old videos because whenever i have a bad day i watch your vids and its 100 times better 💓xx
The thumbnail made me sad. I don't want you to leave the platform. However I understand where you are coming from for sure. YouTube has gotten way too complicated, and it's a lot more difficult to connect with an audience. We love you! I will sure follow your career no matter what direction you take. ( being that I have watched your vids for a LONG time though it will suck to see you leave the platform if you so choose lol) but anyway we support you love you dodie
If YouTube ever becomes too stressful or harmful for you, please, don’t feel like you need to stay. Your mental health and happiness is so important and we (your fans) would feel terrible if YouTube was making you unhappy. Of course we would miss you, but your happiness comes first. Lots of love ❤️❤️❤️
I think this was very well said. And I do think that youtube has tried to drift away from LGBTQ+ content and I think it is a shame. I also agree about your perspective on not being taken seriously by using the label "youtuber". For many people on youtube, they are more than what people expect they are because of those used as the face of youtube.
dodie, tbh you will always have a way of sharing how you're feeling and shit like that. the only thing that gets me depressed about this is that maybe you're going to be like troye sivan and we will never see that part of you that you showed here, yeah still open, still tweeting, but just not those calming 10 minutes videos of you rambling, or talking out one of your depressed episodes or just the thought of going on your channel and seeing that the last video you posted was 2 years ago and that you're this famous celebrity that doesn't interact with their fans. but to be honest, i know you aren't like that, i know you will send different messages than the others and you always read comments even tho you don't respond, i love you and support any decision you make if it makes you happy💞
i think a good thing about youtube is that you get a visual component as well as the music you make, which i think are both important ways to express yourself as an artist. I don't think there is another platform out there that doesn't what youtube does so well, even if there is a stigma around like youtube "culture". i adore you for the art you create and what you have to say to the world and i'd love to see that everywhere that i can on various platforms, but i do think youtube is a good for what its made for, and there are certain things that youtube gives that others don't? genuinely it comes down to the content you choose to make and what platform best supports that to you. <3 experiment!
me and my friend got the notif for this and scrambled to end facetime so we can watch it — also it’s okay if you need breaks now and again, and we know you’ll be back at some point

idk i know you're busy as a musician, but i find you from youtube 2 years ago. i am verry happy for your success, i just sometimes don't get why musicians in youtube have to quit youtube forever, by forever i meant they not uploading anything. i'm perfectly fine if for example you just uploading once a month or even once every two months, because your youtube fans miss your videos. idk.. this is my opinion.
a little out of topic but once i loved troye sivan, i followed him untill he's a huge musician now, don't get me wrong, i'm fucking happy for him, but i'd be lying if i said i'm not sad or disappointed by him quiting youtube.
sorry for my bad english, it's not my first language.
People are forgetting that Youtube is just A PLATFORM. That's all. If the platform isn't serving the creator, they have all the right to transfer to another, or better yet, find better ways to share their sweet sweet content! The creator doesn't owe anything to the platform, especially if the platform is unfair to begin with.
This was recommended for me and was really good but I honestly thought it was like why musicians do have more success on spotify than youtube or something like that
If you quit YouTube I’ll be ok, of course I’ll be a bit sad about it but knowing that you would do it for your own happiness would be more than enough to brighten up my mood. I can also go back and watch older videos of yours as well❤️
I totally agree with all of what you said here. Here's to hoping YouTube can make some positive changes soon! Side note, I am loving seeing you upload again! Your content is to the point, while still YOU. Excited to see all you are doing, Dodie!
i'm trying not to be selfish here but if i'm honest, i'd really really miss your videos. you talking about stuff and problems and your life has helped me when i was in a bad place. so i guess i have some sentimental value attached to you being a youtuber. not that i don't love your music, but it wouldn't be the same if you'd quit, at least for me. i'm not trying to make you feel bad, btw. you and your videos just mean a lot to some ppl.
i would of course love and support you no matter what but i’m not going to lie i would really miss you being on youtube and your vlogs and life updates and those kinds of things but i completely understand where you’re coming from and love you bunches so do what’s right for you and we will support that
Dodie I saw you in Cardiff for your concert (and probably fell on a lot of people sorry!) and it was wonderful 💖. No matter what you do we as your fans we will always support ya💕💕💕. Again to all the people I might of accidentally fallen on sorry! 😅💕💕
I will always picture you as just a human a beautiful person, I see you as a youtuber aswell because when I think of youtube I think of kind and lovely people, before a lot of drama happened it was a lovely site . But to me your a musician who started on youtube and grew up you've grown on here, I hope you don't leave but sometimes you've got to grow up, and If you ever left it would hurt but id understand. just please never quit music <3
Honestly I don't even listen to your music or see you as a musician I see you as a YouTuber and a friend and someone I relate to alot I love your videos but if you were to leave YouTube because it made you happier I would support you even though I would miss you
I've started making covers on my channel recently, and this video scared me because I love making videos and I don't want the platform to crash and burn (even though I've only made like 4 videos)
If you quit, i would be upset since ive been watching you for over 5 years, but i would be okay if you kept in touch on twitter, snapchat etc. Or something! ♡ love u dodie!
okay i can’t watch the video atm but i got the notification and just please don’t leave because you make me v happy and this is my equivalent of meeting you lol
Wouldn’t it be funny if this was the last video she ever uploaded? I hope these videos aren’t like a “brace yourselves I’m leaving the platform soon” thing. I’ll continue to support her, but I just feel like it would be so much more difficult to connect with her on other platforms. I will always continue to support Dodie in all her endeavors. But this talk does indeed scare me.
Plz dont quit im a person who doesnt have much social media so seeing you here is the only way but i understand the breaks just dont quit cause i love you
I think I would be sad if you quit YouTube but at the same time I would understand. I love your updates and vlogs and I especially love your videos about mental health and just certain topics in general but I would understand. YouTube isn’t watcher OR creator friendly anymore. I’m finding that I now watch fewer and fewer YouTubers because of how people are forced to change their content or change platforms because of how YouTube has been changing. It’s definitely sad to see this change and have this feeling of growing up and watching yourself leave something that has been a big part of your life behind but I hope it just means that if this place is never fixed, some other place will arise that will help and support the right people in the right way. :)
The first musician I followed on Youtube was Julia Nunes. She didn't do the whole vlog thing, but the commentary she provided and the small glimpses of her true self made her that much more relatable and I still love her to this day. Social media has truly changed the entertainment industry and to actually get to know the person behind the music/acting makes it that much more personal and relatable, thus more enjoyable. I'd hate to see you leave Youtube, and I do miss your vlogs, however, I also know how much work goes into making them. So I don't blame you for not keeping up while being busy with other things surrounding you career.
please don’t leave Dodie we love you But we understand if you have huge gaps
also I just finished your book, and I adore it so much. Thank you for the amazing words you’ve written, and for telling your story as well as inspiring people.
I feel like people are becoming more and more accepting of youtubers because there are quite a lot of people that are finally sticking out in a positive way. I think eventually generational turnover will change the stigma about our beloved youtubers and musicians and other creators wont be hidden or not taken seriously.
After recently listening to your audio book it's like I have a more inside look to how you feel about things and how it got to that place(audio book was amazing btw cried quite a few times) but I feel that although YouTube's original idea was to be a space where people can express themselves and be able to connect with people who they may be able to relate with. Now, it's mostly just a place for the "faces of YouTube" like Logan Paul etc to follow the trends and get likes which is wrong and so unfair and unreasonable to those who came to connect or express themselves which is not good at all. So although YouTube may have a special place in out hearts the way things are going and changes that are happening is just something that we don't agree with, that's all I wanted to express thank you Dodie x
Dodie I love you and care about your health and happiness a bit more than my own but DON'T LEAVE but you can if you want I'll find some other way to stalk you(jk)
To be completely honest, I think I was one of those people with prejudices towards "youtubers". I still try to carefully select my choices, but I understood (thanks to you, too) that pure, shiny talent can grow everywhere. Even between bad humour content and a tutorial on how to peel a potato with your feet (YouTube: what a fascinating place!).
Youtube has become us place for us to know the better side of music, the honesty and realness to someone. The story behind the music, it's an important place to stay! xxx
I respect if you don't feel like uploading frequently but it always breaks my heart when you say you're going to upload more/every day for a month and then don't keep it up....no more promises pls !!
im very happy that you are comfortable enough to share all of this and you made some wonderful points in this video. it’s very frustrating to know that when people think of the "face of YouTube" they often think first of the Paul brothers and other problematic people before they see the people that are doing good. it’s also frustrating to explain to others that our favorite creators aren’t lazy or doing YouTube to make easy money, because creators like you and many others are doing YouTube to make yourself and others happy. I’m so happy that you’re music career is blossoming and I’m unbelievably proud of you, even though I don’t personally know you. I’m excited to see what you do in the future, even if it’s taking a bit of a break from YouTube to focus on your other endeavors, whether it be music, art of another form, or anything else. never stop creating dodie, we’re all here and very excited to see what you come up with next !!
hi dodie, you'll probably never see this but i just want to tell you that you've been such an inspiration to me, your videos and your book bring me so much positivity and i have no idea what id do without them. i actually did an english presentation on you, where me and another friend had to tell the entire class about your life and we had to analysis to of your songs (we chose life lesson and secret for the mad). i hate doing presentations because they give me so much anxiety and stress, but i did this because i wanted the people in my class to see how much of an inspiration you are. i hope you have a great day and i hope you continue to make me and other people happy! i love you <3
i personally would be ok if you left: although i love your videos, i'm a musician too and i'd never want to be a youtuber because i'm afraid of it becoming my "main thing" in the eyes of others
Alvaro Rivas Bustamante he's a guy who made a name of himself through his YouTube channel where he posted his covers andoriginal songs. After his first ep came out he started to barely post anything on it and he completely stopped after his first album came out
Twitch has a great community of musicians. You should totally check out the music section on Twitch! So many talented people on there and everything is live. Not saying that YouTube is worse... it's just different :) It's absolutely worth checking out. Cheers.
if you were to find it necessary to quit, then that would be okay ! i'd miss you so so much, but for the time that you're on youtube i might as well enjoy your content and you as a person, even if you do leave someday. i hope you are having a lovely day !
I hope one day you can make a response video to the video that you made for your future self a few years back! We’d miss you if you left, but it would be understandable. I’ll never stop tuning into your content though!
dodie if you quit, i feel like we would be sad but you'll be getting further in life y'know? so i would be happy for you instead of sad. <3 love you dodie
It is your life and though you have no flippin clue who I am, your youtube content has really spared my life more than once. And that's a lot of pressure on someone to know that, but please even if it is once every year please put a vlog or something up here. I don't know about everyone else, but it feels as though I have always looked to you to help me out because my god we are almost the same person and what you say always just makes sense to me. It is kind of weird to say this, but I love you so damn much because of who you have become and how it gives me hope for who I can become. If there is another way for you to keep making videos without the stigmas, please do it. love you dodie- Olivia
I would certainly still support you and your music if you ever left youtube. However, I tend to find my favorite musicians solely from YouTube because you get to know the artist on such a more personal level through the platform and that is what I love. When people leave, I don't connect to them or their craft as much.
Unrelated to the message in this video, I got an ad for John Mayer’s new music video and I am not mad one bit. Friggin love that dude and his music. But also, Dodie, I love you. I love your music. Keep doing what you love because I’ll support you in any way I can. ❤️
I understand that YouTube is failing as a platform, driving YouTubers off to other platforms. I really miss seeing little vlogs and vids about your life and things you've been thinking about, though. If you want to focus on producing and giving concerts in stead of YouTube, I think we all completely understand anf respect that, but if you do have time and energy left, we'd love to see that kind of content from you again, either on YouTube or any other platform.
you’ve grown your own audience based on your musical talent and personality, if that’s not a professional musician I don’t know what is. You don’t have to self-deprecate so others feel more comfortable.
I get why musicians, or anyone, leave YouTube. It's a big time commitment to upload consistently, if you have another source of income or areas you're more passionate about it doesn't really make sense to keep up your channel or stay on but only upload something when you happen to have time to do it.
I support any decision that you make because honestly being a musician and producing albums and such are probably gonna help you grow a bit more than YouTube. As a fan, I think a lot of us still really enjoy the YouTube content you produce and we love to see you grow, but if the next step in growing is taking a break and moving to other platforms we will support you completely. I can't speak for everyone, but I know that's how I feel at least.
The new algorithm really sucks to the point where YouTube will lose legit creators like you and will keep some nasty shit wannabes because that's what is selling. I really want this platform to have that "harmony" again like in the good old days of YouTube but... sounds impossible nowadays. I hope one day we will get a new video platform where everyone would be free to support, share and just have fun creating content and where it would never be demonitized.
Dodie, I love you and it's okay if you want to leave from this damn platform. I would love to follow you everywhere possible because you're one of those YouTubers who are really sweet and authentic and that's why I loved your vlogs, songs, covers, etc. Keep 'em spreading, leave this mess and share somewhere else and I would still watch it because I would miss you. Goodluck on your career, lil smol bean. ^_^ :)
babe!!! do whatever you want, so many of us who were here from years ago knew you would grow. you're extremely talented and youtube should never set you back!! of course i would miss you (as will everyone else) if you do decide to leave but thats life!! and its your life! i will always support you and this is kinda what we all wanted i guess? we wanted you to grow. even if it means for you to leave youtube <3
I used to get really annoyed when musicians stopped YouTube thinking that they didn’t care about their fans anymore because they “made it big” or whatever. Thanks from r explaining Dodie
I wouldn’t miss you uploading music to YouTube. I see plenty of your music talent outside of YouTube or even other people uploading your songs. What I would miss is your more doddlevloggle where you upload cute little bits of your personality and stuff like that (although I’ve just realized you put that on Instagram so I don’t even know what I’m on about anymore whoops)
I mean what made you decide that you would start creating YouTube videos? How did you make your first video? And are you happy that you’re career as a musician has really taken flight?
I would really appreciate it if you made a video about some of these questions and questions similar to these ones
By the way 💞💞💞💞 You’re amazing And honestly a really big inspiration for me and for many others
This just made me think of Troye Sivan and honestly I still miss his videos so much. I am super super happy for him though because look at where this boy is now but I just miss his funny and adorable videos. It'll be the same when you do that. But I see that the whole stigma around being a youtuber is not fun if you're trying to be taken seriously. Anyway, I wish you the best of luck and as long as you're happy, we'll be fine.
I don’t fault musicians for not staying on YouTube. If someone doubted my skills because of something I was involved with I’d consider dropping it too.
If I were talking to someone who asked me what my position is, I'd say a musician who uploads their content on a variety of different platforms so then the youtuber word isn't used, but if they find you on here, then it won't be as much of a surprise, because you said a variety of platforms. In the meantime though, I see you more as a musician rather than a youtuber. I love your songs so much, and your voice is so smooth! <3 I've been listening to "Would you be so kind" & "In the middle" so much the past few days and they've cheered me up from the funk I was in. <3 Love you Dodie!
dodie i support you wholeheartedly if you wanted to leave because that’s your choice. i will forever love your music so much. thank you for not being another loud millennial on this website <3
I fully understand why musicians would leave YouTube and why you might choose to leave/take breaks, but I think the biggest fear for your audience (or at least me) is that we won’t be as connected to you. I love you and your channels because you’re not just some celebrity or singer, you’re dodie and we know you through your stories and creative projects and mannerisms and editing and personality. It’s not youtube we don’t want to lose, it’s knowing you as a person and finding comfort and safety in your content and this audience. Personally, you’ve helped me a lot and I’ll never stop supporting you. I just hope possibly less Youtube won’t mean less dodie <3
To be frank, and please dont take this the wrong way, but I started watching your videos a few years ago for your other content, not for the music. The genre I listen to is very different to yours dodie, I do however love watching the other types of videos you upload. I used to watch Troy for the same reason. So if you left youtube, I would understand, but be very sad to see you go.
If you left YouTube I would seriously miss the content you make here but I know you’d make the right decision in the end and I will be there for all of your amazing music!
Ok, I know you'll probably never see this, but there's a show on next week at The Courtyard Theatre called Shakespeare's Sister and a few of your songs are being featured (secret for he mad and burned) and they only heard you recently because of the director suggesting this, it would be awesome if you could come along (if you're in London) and see it!
i think that if you will ever want to quit posting videos because it helps you in your career, everyone will understand. and if they don't they are quite dumb(vERy DuMB) . by the way i love you, you helped me getting through my darkest days. i really appreciate what you do =) (also sorry for my bad english)
I see the point you'd quit, YouTube has changed intensely and yes, demonitising the lgbtq+ videos ect (btw i just wanted to say i knew you from your bi song :) and people see youtube no longer for musicians, talent. Of course, everyone will be upset, but your fans will understand, i do (: xx
I don't know why, but lately every time i see dodie's posts i keep feeling that she's gotten really pretty, i mean she has been pretty but lately she's getting prettier and prettier...what
You are definitely a musician among your fan base dodie. I share who you are with my friends through your music, not by spreading you vlogs and videos. Those are just a little bonus you give up to give more insight on your life and who you are as a person. I know, we will all support you if you need to move off this platform to further your career. As long as you keep making music and keep creating those beautiful poems of song we all relate to... well that’s more than enough for us.
well, Dodie, I think we will all miss the days of veda vedm vedj vedf and all your silly but entertaining videos but things change and people outgrow things that's ok ill probably come back to this channel from time to time to watch some of your videos that I obsessed over since I was 14 because it reminds me of then but then come back to my life now as a kinda adult best of luck in the future and your career as a musician
When youtube musicians quit youtube the problem isn't that they take their content to another platform, it's that they abandon the kind of things that got them popular in the first place. When a musician quits youtube, they usually just quit vlogging and sharing their personality. I'll be completely honest, your music is great and I have songs by you in every playlist I make, I bought your book and read it and cried and laughed a ton, but the thing that keeps bringing me back is your shining personality. Quit youtube however much you want, but never quit showing us your personality through vlogs, interviews, instagram posts/stories, and so on.
Completely agree with this video, however surely the best way to make it clear to main stream media that "serious" musicians or even just creative and genuinely talented people can existed on YT is to continue even partially with YT? The only way the main stream media will realise that YT isn't just lots of Logan Paul's is if they meet people, like you Dodie, who can identify with the term Youtuber however is also a serious musician.
Just a thought, again I agree with this video wholeheartedly! x
So I really want to start making YouTube videos, I'm really interested in the filmmaking process and social media, I'm thinking of maybe pursuing a career in film when I finish school, but I'm sorta scared that people I know irl will think I'm just another cringy teen, wannabe zoella, just in it for the fame sort of person as soon as they hear that I make videos. I just wanna make stuff and put it out there like it seems so interesting and fun! What do i doooo?
I absolutely love your music obviously. But is there any way you could keep posting talking stuff. It could literally be vlogs like you don’t have to take as much time with what you make. I just like to hear your voice, it’s calming and makes me happy.
I think some people may be freaking out about you using another platform because they might not use whatever other platform (twitter, instagram, etc.) as regularly as YouTube. Or maybe even at all. Because chances are the people who are watching this video right now on this platform, use it all the time. But I mean, it's your choice on where you want to share your content and no one can take that from you. I just maybe wanted to help you understand why so many people are freaking out. (lol I'm not because I use Instagram and twitter and all that so it doesn't matter)
Dodie, I really love your music but you already left youtube. You can't fool anyone, you post here once in two months if we're lucky. I love your personality, but I'm gonna unsubscribe. But I hope that you're gonna improve. Have a good day everyone
Am I the only one who has heart feelings over this? I don’t want her to go. It’s like she’s going to leave all of us for something bigger and better. No hate.
If you do quite YouTube at least let us know and at least make it a meaningful end. I'm gonna be frank and say that I felt disappointed with troye sivan because he just left randomly. He didn't even take the time to thank his YouTube audience and properly say goodbye. I understand he was moving on and i was so so happy for him. I wanted him to be sucessful and i still do. But i honeslty lost intrest in him as a fan and im not as big of a fan as I once was because it was a VERY QUICK transition from hearing and seeing him on social media all the time to then..not seeing him at all. If you create this audience and platform it's fine if you want to leave, do whatever makes yiu happy, but I feel it's at the very least your responsibility to do it properly and give a final goodbye and heads up.
>“It might take some persuading to show them that I am legit.”< I want to become an actress and I’m starting on YouTube, but sometimes I don’t like telling people that because they will either be genuinely supportive, pretend to think it’s a cool idea then immediately change the subject to college/“real jobs”, or cleeaarrly be skeptical about it. It’s very rare that I find a genuine supporter. The genuine supporters are my friends and family because they’ve seen my videos and think I have a legitimate shot at creating a career for myself. But others I have to persuade, and most of the time they still want me to talk about “the other ideas I have for my life”.
This made me a little bit sad, but I totally get your point and agree with it. Sadly there are a lot of really talented youtubers not being taken seriously because of it, there is a huge stigma around. The thing I hear the most it's that it is easy, which is not, people who are not millenians (god I hate that word) usually won't get the time and the effort it takes to be a youtuber and be successful enough to live from it, there are exceptions though. Also, there is "bad" and "good" content out there and most of the community gets labed as part of the "bad" content when the truth is that that is true to every platform youtube is just less "controlled", the internet is less censored than tv (for example). If you think this might interfere with your career maybe you should take a step back from the platform. I will miss you deeply and it will ache a little bit but I sincerely wish you, your music and your career the best, and if this is the best I support your decision. It mighty be harder for me (and people from abroad) because I will probably never get to see you in a gig or a concert because I'm not from the UK, or Europe, or USA so your channel was a way to conect more with you. As I said before, I support whatever you decide. Love you loads
i understand leaving youtube as an artist and all, but i feel like how involved dodie is online and how her more vloggy/entertaining videos giver her a sense of realness i feel? i feel like if you take away all of her other titles or professions and just call her a musician, i think, and i think other fans of her would agree, that it just wouldn't be her. she'd just seem/be so much more corporate and disconnected from her audience that she loves so much as time would progress and she'd kinda just become just like every other artist that left youtube, making their audience feel abandoned.
ironically she’s reading ur comment lol. also the point of this video was to say that i agree and so i won’t be stopping that. it just might not necessarily be on youtube, maybe
doddlevloggle that makes sense, and i support whatever you do whole heartedly, as ive been watching you for so many years now and you've truely inspired me, i just was kind of playing with the idea of how your image and audience would change if you were to focus soley on your music.
Just in case someone wants to hear dodie further talk about this topic, or basically this video, watch her instagram story - seems like some people don't really get what she meant😅
"The outside mainstream media has made people like Logan paul the face of Youtube." YouTube also made people like Logan Paul the face of YouTube tho. Mainstream forms of media with the exception of television mostly ignored YouTubers up until that point.
Um girl? You ARE a bigshot musician cause you're making music and doing what you love in the company of simlarly-minded people who appreciate your talent
I would much rather put my time and energy in being a musician/songwriter than posting videos. Maybe I come from a place of not having SM when I started, so I treat it more as a communicator than a showcase. If it gives me joy or excitement or a need to speak on something, I'll post a video. Posting for the sake of posting isn't for me. I'm sure your attitude has changed greatly in the last year about YT. Like you said. The rules have changed, and so change comes with it.
So doddie, from the point of a technophobe old fart like myself that likes to follow musicians like yourself what would you advise? It's a shame that i have to feel like a weirdo for posting this but i do, being in my early 40s. I just have enjoyed following young artist's and seeing how they get on. (I started following rhett and link when they started so you know how i found you!) it's incredible that my teenage daughter became a fan of yours of her own accord only to find out i was also a fan! I love we have that in common (the kid obviously has taste!) (hi molly, love you if you see this xxxx) she will be cringing like hell! x
I want to address the point you made about how when a musician quits youtube we "don't miss them as a youtuber, we miss they way they shared" mostly, I agree with that and I believe it is true however, I think there is another big part to that. Personally, I don't like it when musicians quit YouTube because it feels like they are essentially leaving behind the following the and fans that loved them and their channel. I feel like youtubers are seen as more genuine that a mainstream media artist. For example I'd definitely say I knew a lot more personal information about you than I do about like Dua Lipa or Charlie Puth. Professional musicians and mainstream celebrities are put on pedestals and made to be seen as higher than us, they are invited to carpets and award shows and things, youtubers try their best to break down that barrier, well most of them anyway. Youtubers and vloggers try to connect with their audience in a way a "normal" celebrity cant do, the best we get from mainstream celebrities are interviews which even then feel a bit scripted and fake. When a person quits youtube it feels like they have suddenly cut their audience out and are no longer letting us in. It feels like losing a friend you used to feel close to. A good example of this to me personally is troye sivan, where when I used to feel he was just a normal person with a great talent, he has now in my eyes become a huge celebrity who went to the met gala and is now on the pedestal of celebrities and fame that I never imagined him on before. While I would understand if you were to stop posting, it would to me essentially be like losing an old friend and listening to a song would be like looking back on a picture of me and that old friend, a mix of nostalgia, longing, hope and good memories
it was long but valid!! i totally get that. i guess what i was trying to say in this video (but didn’t do very well) was that i don’t want to stop sharing behind the scenes and just because i might not do that via video content on specifically youtube doesn’t mean i won’t. it is a little worrying how you described knowing people on youtube more “personally” - there is still a “barrier” between strangers on the internet, especially if one of them is more well known. there are just boundaries you don’t cross with someone you feel like you know online. the point of sharing on youtube isn’t to say “but me and my audience are friends” (though i used to want that, i now know that’s impossible) but to say “my audience can understand i’m human and therefore imperfect and can stop idolising me” which tbh still doesn’t work sometimes lol.
doddlevloggle I completely understand that. I didn't necessarily mean it to that extent, I was using a bit of an extreme the get the point across lol. Essentially I was describing exactly you explained, I didn't use the best example but it's the same. I feel the way youtubers share and other celebrities share is very different and that change scares people and kinda turns them off from their former youtube audience. Though they may still enjoy their music, they're held on a different level to the eye of the viewer now, at least that's how I view it. YouTube is more direct and seems more genuine. when that ends it can be a bit disheartening. Then again, I am a very dramatic person, and this is only one person's opinion, mine is valid, but should be taken with a grain of salt.
doddlevloggle Also wanna let you know that I have enjoyed your content (both music and vlogs) for a couple years now and I want to say that I will continue to enjoy your sharing wherever and however you do.
It must be hard as a creator to have an audience that believes they control your life. They're in the mindset of ”well, we put her there” but we weren't the one's who put countless hours of hard work and dedication into your craft. I think the ”stigma around YouTube” no matter how true it is, is sugar coating the real reasons you want to ”quit youtube”. You are still searching for approval from your fans. (At least, that's my opinion. I obviously don't know you personally.) I have LOVED seeing you grow as a person over these years but you do not need the approval of your audience. It's YOUR life. You worked too hard to get here. And I personally am not looking forward to you ”quitting youtube” but that's not important. Thanks
YouTube is giving youtubers the stigma. The platform used to be about people like yourself creating music and videos for fun. Now everyone is trying to make a money at it. I told you a long time ago, there can be no honesty when money is on the line. At the time you didn't agree with that. (see your video: Are sponsored videos OK? @2:44) Now we are seeing the results on income tied to YouTube. YouTube needs to make money and creators 'want' to make money. So they both error or the side of playing it safe so as not to derail the money train. If people weren't concerned about the money they could make, then they wouldn't need to worry about being demonetized. We could be back to the days when people made music and videos for the fun of it or to support a cause they felt strongly about.
It also makes it harder for smaller musicians deciding on whether they pursue their career through YouTube or through other means. Other people on my music course kinda scoff at having a YouTube channel and making videos (like not just filming a performance but putting both creative effort to the actual video itself) so I don't really tell people that much, and through that I don't really get views ir engagement and I'm not able to "network" or whatever. But trying it through other means is just as hard and I'm at a conflict on how to approach a career in music now.
Everybody is talking about Troye (no shade, I love Troye) but when I saw the title I immediately thought of Patty Walters. Sure his band As It Is is great and they're getting bigger but after watching his videos I miss him so much... I respect people's decisions but it saddens me to see that he hasn't posted in three years.
I don't agree. In my humble opinion, being a YouTuber is cool. It means you are creative and have lots of ideas (which I don't). I think it is great to do all these videos and entertain us. It takes a lot of courage and strength.
Guys, we move among plataforms since internet was made. Myspace and fotologs were mandatory social media years ago. Just point the better site than youtube. Simple! People will be in there
Dodie, if you leave youtube it will be sad to see you leave because I will miss the way you share your stories and give amazing advice and your beautiful songs ,of course, but I will also be happy to see you grow as a musician. You will have reached your dreams and work on something you love. I will always be happy for you success and will only wish happiness and joy in your life. So if you want to quit Youtube to become an even better musician and have more opportunities, go ahead. The only thing important here is if your happy and content with what you work. We will always support you no matter what
I agree. I may not be a creator, but I'm sometimes ashamed to say I watch YouTube regularly because people associate it with those people (you know who). If for me it has become kind of this guilty pleasure, I can't even imagine what's it like to work here. Sorry if this didn't make any sense, I'm not a native speaker. Regardless of whether you stay on YouTube or not I will always support you and your work.
I actually never realised how bad the stigma with Youtubers and real artists are..its so mixed..wheres the divide between real artists like Dodie and the..*other* "creators" such as Logan Paul. Whaaaat..ugh.
If they're afraid of the stigma, then why don't they try and prove that it can be better instead of just leaving? Leaving doesn't help the stigma at all. In fact, I'd argue that it makes the stigma worse for everyone else.
love you keep it up insert bracket my phones stopped working properly so i can’t get punctuation apologies for how weird this is to read insert closed bracket
She’s going to join the aluminati she said “fuck all of you I’m out imma join the aluminatiiiii” but like actually don’t John Cozart us please. (OoF tHe ShAdE.)
I'm so sorry if this comment sounds mean. I'll try not to be. I know of a few musicians including you, whom I love the music of and who are on youtube. But I get the feeling that many musicians on youtube act like they are such "special snowflakes" and constantly looking for attention when it comes to their music. They may make videos of all sorts but constantly have to remind people how important they are because they make music. I hope you can believe me when I say I don't mean you here. And I hope I didn't come of as rude. I still appreciate the work and the music but I'm getting kind of annoyed. Is this some weird musician stereotype I have stumbled across far too many times?
(Please correct me harshly if I'm being a bit of a jerk)
lolol no truly. i am extremely guilty of that. guilty of it in terms of trying to prove to the world that i am legit, musically (though my music should do that on its own so basically - shut up dodie) and also just in general i take guilty pleasure in feeling different. i guess i’m annoyed people can spot that but - yh. a potentially unhealthy trait of mine!!
Super Bananas2018-07-06 01:21:32 (edited 2018-07-06 01:22:48 )
I kinda disagree with Sammy abit because I think it is semi-intentional.
In the end YouTube is a Google platform and Google is a business, they wanna make money, people wanting to make a difference isn't making money.
I also don't like the fact that much of YouTube has been taken by the far right, anti-fems, etc (rebel media being one example), they seem to get a megaphone compared to youtubers that don't promote bigotry and hate.
Dodies videos are very scripted (not a bad thing) but I feel as if she's not really 'chatting' to us. She's teaching, sharing, informing. But I don't feel as if we're her 'pals'?? Idk
so basically you quit youtube for a awhile cause you gave into what people thought of you but just so you know your songs were a lot better not professionly done my favorite song of yours is little mosquito and theres a storm coming tonight
Dodie is a fantastic YouTuber and extremely talented artist. But I don’t think it’s fair to accumulate such a big following on YouTube and then just use that following to go somewhere else and then to not provide that original following with the regularity of videos that made her famous
but i would still be making the things that people followed me for - music. if people followed me for my videos and i didn’t want to do those anymore then i obviously wouldn’t mind one bit if they left or didn’t listen to my music because that’s their decision! i don’t think anyone owes anyone anything. we’re all just very grateful
Ik this is weird and out of nowhere, but PLEASE CONSIDER COMING TO MALAYSIA, we just underwent a political revolution of sorts and we're a bit less conservative I guess? and we'd love to have you here! So much love from Malaysia! 💕🇲🇾
This comment is so small. A little and easy way for your fans and (in a minuscule way) friends to talk to you. Not close friends, but enough that we love what you do and what you make. And I'm sorry that my words are going to blend with everyone else's. I wish I could come up with something that somehow stretched past the language I speak... but I can't, or at least, I don't know how. But if you decide to leave... What I want to say is: I'll miss you. I wish YouTube still felt like a welcoming place to everyone. I'm sorry you're considering leaving. But whatever you choose, we're with you Dodie.
There are so many reasons why YouTube is no longer good for musicians, like freezing play counts, Illegal downloads, many websites offer YouTube to mp3 converters online (search Google you’ll see)...
i think what’s worse is when someone is a youtuber, and then peruses a career in the music world because the perception of them being a youtuber is always there, but with you, you’ve always been a musical youtuber, and then whilst you still created musical videos you also introduced vlogs & more ‘influencer’ style videos, but throughout this you’ve always been a musician primarily. though in the wider picture, it is still very much a struggle to be given credit for how talented you are, and i just wish making youtube videos for musicians didn’t have such a negative connotation, because many artists we see nowadays upload ‘tour diaries’ to their youtube channels (be it vevo or their other official channel) and that is never considered to be the same kind of thing, but when you think about it, isn’t that the same as a vlog?
I think the stigma about youtube musicians is more because you can be terrible at gigs and live music, and still manage to make a good youtube video showing your music. I'm not saying people do this, but it is much easier to "cheat" when you have so much leeway in producing your own stuff. In some way, having a million subscribers isn't the same as having a million people attend your concert. Also the part about being self-centered and shallow. So many youtubers really can be described that way.. when you watch their own videos vs. videos of them.. one can choose how he or she wants to present themselves on youtube, and wear that mask really well, but in reality, things that are usually cut out shine through.
logan paul isn't that bad anymore, he's always been a good person and people makes mistakes, he's learnt from his mistakes and now he's a changed person. He helps so many people and loves his fans. He might be a little rude but his heart is so big and he cares for us as his fans. #logang4life
yeah youtube is shit, but also this is where you got most of your fans, most of your first gigs. it was a big part of you branching out into the wider world. as much as i believe you are allowed to do whatever the fuck you want in your own life, spare a thought every now and then for those who supported you through the brilliant and sometimes tough times
i did, i responded as a fan knowing that it's what you want to do with your life and you can do whatever the fuck you want. if my first comment was not clear, i'm autistic and struggle to communicate my points correctly
that when people talk about "quitting youtube" what they're really talking about is stopping the current way in which they share and where they put the stuff they're making. And how I currently don't feel like I'll ever stop that (despite knowing that my desire to share will fluctuate) and so though I might not use this platform to do that I could continue on other platforms BASICALLY IT'S NOT BLACK AND WHITE U KNOW
I’m goin to be honest, you said youtube demonetizing LGBTQ+ videos I almost got pissed off and I’m never angry. That’s absolute shit, and it pisses me off that these types of things are still around. Like wtf

12 likesI'm definitely part of this "segment". I'm hoping it's a large segment, because when it comes to writing (very) emotional non-Broadway songs I think dodie is second to none right now.

1 likethis is a video about how if the platform “youtube” gets too shit to be on i will just upload my content on another one! so basically, if you define “quitting youtube” as stopping sharing and creating, then I will not “quit youtube” (i might take breaks from creating tho). but if you define it as leaving the platform “youtube” then maybe i will someday!

2 likesI think the concern of a lot of people is that we know that your YouTube is genuinely you. Videos feature your friends, are edited by you, and are relatable instead of always marketable. I understand that those may have to take a back seat as music grows in popularity, but I think we all hope that you stay true to yourself and don’t get swallowed up by the music industry

0 likesdoddlevloggle i’ve been debating on what to put first: building a successful YouTube channel or music. Both of which are important to me, but one has to be more important. Looking at this, through helping yourself find a balance, you helped me realize that music is what I love and YouTube is a tool for sharing it. Thank you so much and I wish you the best in your music and media careers ❤️
3 likesI love you Dodie! You are a wonderful and talented human being whose art and content has helped me through my struggles with mental health. Thank you for that. I support your art and will continue to support even if you decide to leave the platform of "YouTube". <3

I've always wanted to meet you and just see you as the amazing character you are, however I'm a boy and just because I watch you I get laughed at because you're a 'girl YouTuber'. Despite this I just want you to know that I exist, which will make me happier. I love you!
0 likesI love your music and the content you’ve made over the years so much. Xx
0 likesA lovely, concise monologue on why and how people move on from the area that they originated from; if a platform can no longer support the individual (either through personal development or changes in the platform itself) then there should be no shame in shifting towards one that does. You articulated that very well and I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say that we're going to support you in whatever way we can, whether it's watching ads on your videos or buying your music. <3
501 likesAlso, small side note, but you're allowed to say that you're a professional musician now! People pre-order your music and hype over your merch, I'd say that counts you in the big-leagues!

3 likesI see younger musicians have one or two songs on YouTube but I think for many it's easier to be discovered on Spotify. YouTube doesn't seem to be accociated with music anymore ,i guess people prefer to easily be seen on Spotify. However YouTube allows a community to be formed which I'll be sad to lose because of the new algorithm and the way the platform works.

1 likeSalem The ukelele More famous artists have started off of here, just aren't as well known for it. Alessia Cara and Charlie Puth were both youtubers. Shawn Mendes grew an audience here (but started on Vine). Justin Bieber was discovered off of youtube
4 likesSalem The ukulele Grace became famous because of X-factor.
4 likesjinny wow, I just replied with the same comment
1 likeSarah Derksen yeah I've discovered so many bands because well ... That's what I'm on there for. They give you recommendations for music whereas on YouTube it's mainly vlogs etc.
0 likesI think there's a growing number of music artists being founded on Spotify, whereas there seems to be a decline is YouTube musicans.

This is a legitimate concern for small musicians. YouTube is the only platform i currently have to try and start my music career. But honestly it's gone downhill lately and I'm not sure If i want to continue using it. Is the era if youtube over?
13 likesReplies (2)
honestly I don't know? I think if you use it right then you can build a community that is great. However; the more you dip into the youtube audience pool (by appealing to them) the bigger you'll grow - but then some youtube audience traits start to seep in and it can get a little confusing to yourself and to labels etc on who or what you are, youtuber or musician
6 likesdoddlevloggle I think balance is the key here maybe. Using youtube to build a community but not relying on it to maintain that community.

30 likesi personally would love for you to keep making videos here because i feel like thats the way to break that "oh ur just a youtuber not a real artist" stigma, artists like you showing that coming from/starting from yt isnt a bad thing and there's a lot of real talent on here. BUT at the end of the day its ur life&decisions and im gonna keep on supporting you on any platform you wanna be on even if its simply spotify and itunes<3
5 likesI love this community! I was scrolling through the comments and saw so many fellow “dodie supporters” (idk what else to call them lol), and I believe no matter what platform you decide to use, you’ll still have plenty of loving members of the community here for you :)
1 likeI'm glad you're a YouTuber because I'd never have heard of you otherwise. I wish you the best in your career. You're so very talented.
1 likeI love how genuine & real you are and so is your music - please never quit, you're an inspiration ❥ but I think there is one major reason worth mentioning here too - it is incredibly hard to get your music noticed on YouTube now. I make weekly videos & put a tone of work into them, but it hardly get's any attention.. I think that's a very legit reason for someone to quit. I'm not going to though. Hell or high water these videos will keep coming hahaa..
3 likesI try to take a zen approach to it and not become attached to musicians or other content creators.
3 likesBTW TO WHOEVER IS READING THIS: YOU ARE A GORGEOUS LITTLE SUNFLOWER AND I HOPE YOU HAVE AN AMAZING DAY! DO THAT THING YOU WANT TO DO! EAT AN EXTRA SLICE OF CAKE! YOU DESERVE THE VERY BEST!
8 likesi love you so damn much dodes! 💛will always support you no matter what. wherever or whenever you want to share things with us on any kind of platform. keep shining my love ✨
1 likeDodie your beautiful. If u quit YouTube I still love you and I know that everyone will support u in whatever you choose. Youtube has a million different types of people uploading every day, but you a loved by so much people and if there true supporters like me and my friends then they will support you more then they ever did. I love you with all my heart.❤️
1 likelove you dodes 💖 will support you whether you move platforms or not
2 likesI’ve been thinking about this for a while, that it really sucks that there are no actual valid alternatives for YouTube on the market :( Vimeo was popular for a while but people labeled it as “YouTube for hipsters” and it just kinda dissolved off the radar of the general public.
2 likesI wish there was an alternative, maybe smaller, but something, YouTube desperately needs some competition. But with its integration with google and google being everybody’s primary search engine, I don’t see how it’s gonna get any in the foreseeable future :(
Tl;dr things are changing for the worse and I am sad.
We love you so much Dodie and we will accept and love you the same even if we see you as a YouTuber or Musician! Even if you quit YouTube we will cheer you on your journey to success! WE LOVE YOU! 💛
7 likesOh Dodie, I love you a lot, you and your content make me happy so I hope you choose to do whatever makes you feel more happy and comfortable. We are going to support you!
0 likesYou're not pretty good at music Dodie, you're amazing at music! 💕
0 likesYou helped me so much, Dodie. I just wanted to tell you ❤
0 likesYou're allowed to compliment yourself, you deserve it!!!
4 likesEdit: And not many people understand this, so spread it 'round, my dudes
I enjoy any content you create! whether its on youtube or through music! I will say though that ill miss your videos! they are very relaxing and calming! but if it means putting more time and effort into being a professional musician i think that would be lovely!
1 likeYouTube is such an incredible platform, especially for musicians! <3
1 likeSo, what are you saying? Are you taking a break from YouTube, quitting entirely or is it still undecided? Also, what other platforms (aside from Spotify and social media like Instagram) are you uploading your music to? (I'm curious)
2 likesI love your music so much. I can’t lie when I say that your voggle content was usually the kind of stuff to make me smile and feel good when i’m down. I’ll miss it, but it’s your path and we’ll definitely follow you on it
0 likesI love your content so much, you’re so talented even if you did quit YouTube I would still support your music. I’d like to thank you for all the music you have written that has brought me joy, I have never not been excited to see one of your notifications pop up. You are and forever will be my favorite singer♥️
0 likesI love you Dodes, do whatever makes you happy :)) follow your heart babe 💓
1 likeI can never see you leaving YouTube completely. It’s your roots! Unless it stops making you happy, of course!! I love seeing your videos in my sub box and love everything you share with us.
0 likesIt is sort of upsetting to see people leave YouTube in general and for good, or they re-brand in such an obvious way. I know this isn't the case, and I know it's probably just all in my head, but any content that they release after leaving YouTube or after re-branding feels disingenuous. I don't want to name names, but I think some people have gotten that vibe from other popular artists on here.
2 likesI know that these people aren't bad people for doing what they've done.
I love this video so much 💞 I love how inspirational you are as well 💞 thank you for being amazing 💞
1 likei always view you as a musician first! always!! i can imagine how difficult it must be to explain to higher-ups that u are in fact an actual musician and not the “stereotypical youtuber” that mainstream media has painted all of you to be. you’re a legitimate musician, but you also happen to share your life via this platform bc it’s easier to reach out to your audience! if u do decide to leave this youtube all together, i would 100% support you! youtube itself has been hanging on quite the thread for a while so something like it crashing and burning wouldn’t be so much of a surprise lol.
0 likesbut i’d really miss this type of content that you share. it’s a quality of youtubers that i’ve grown to be fond of, how they are able to genuinely express themselves to a camera and not put on a show just for the sake of views. you’re one of the creators here that still do this!! i love that so much about you!! <3
doddleoddle is the girl who posts videos on youtube to share her life to her ever growing audience! dodie is the talented musician who’s gonna go out there playing sold out shows around the world! you “quitting youtube” (i.e. not posting on this platform) wouldn’t at all take away from who you are. it’s just a matter of finding a different platform to share your life with us. :)
If you do decide to, I understand. I’ll miss you but I’ll be proud at the same time, JUST CONTINUE BEIN U QWEEN. ❤️
8 likesPlease don’t quit. The music industry is toxic and there is so much evil in it, it has killed so many people and so many talented beautiful souls.
2 likesYou already have an extremely large following and by definition you could already be considered a celebrity in some people’s view.
0 likesthanks for being brutally honest about this we appreciate it❤️
0 likesI'm so in love with your personality.
0 likesYou are such an inspiration!
0 likesDodie, your videos are one of ever so sparse ones I get excited to see in my sub box every time! You're so refreshing and tackle interesting topics in such a real and down to earth way. I think people can tell you're being genuine and that's why you deserve all the subscribers you could get :)
0 likesI love hearing you talk about your life because I can hear the emotions in your voice, and I can’t get on any other social media, and if you were to leave I would be really really sad but you can do as you please
0 likesDodie, I really hope you keep sharing and uploading videos! You are my favourite youtuber and your content inspires me so much! please never leave xxx
0 likesI love your music but I also enjoy just watching you because it is hard to find genuine and creative YouTubers that I enjoy as much as you
0 likesI just got your book for my birthday and I’ve blown through it haha I love it!! Love you ❤️❤️
0 likesYou convey your thoughts so well. Agree with everything you said in this so much.
0 likesIll always support you. You helped me trough tough times with your songs and opened the doors for me to experience an entire different music genre and the commutity it has. Thank you so much Dodie. You cant believe how important you are for me.
0 likesI love you so much Dodie, and you are the most beautiful, inspirational, kind, and forgiving person in the entire word full of billions of people. Dodie, you could shave all of your hair off and dye one of your eyebrows orange and green, and you would still be drop dead gorgeous. I hope you keep up the good work! Love your music and sense of humor!
0 likesGreat video, as always Dodes. We love you, and we’ll support you no matter what!! 💜
0 likesThank you for all that you've given us on this platform, no matter if you stop posting on youtube I'll still be so grateful for everything you've done and I'm sure so many others will be too. Thank you for all of your inspiration and beautiful music 💖
0 likesyour singing and speaking voices are both equally as soothing, you are extremely blessed 😂
0 likesNo matter what you decide to do, we get it Dodie and we will love you nevertheless...just do whatever makes you feel comfortable and happy 😊💞
1 likeWe all love your videos Dodie!! But if you ever do find it too much to do videos and musiccy stuff that's cool and we understand 😊 also mental health breaks are also good ❤
1 likeDo what makes you happy! Sure we’d miss seeing your adorable face every now and then telling us about your new tea preference and such, but those who truly care will always want you to be happy. That’s just how it is! ❤️❤️❤️
0 likesI love dodie. But more than anything I hope she does what’s best for her and doesn’t get hate for doing that 💟🌟🌟
1 likeI just want to listen to your voice all day, I don’t care what platform you share your talent on! 😊
0 likesAs long as you are happy that’s all we care about! Do what makes you comfortable!! We will always be here to support you no matter what we love you Dodie ❤️
0 likesyou are good at music, Dodie and do not deny it! you are amazing in every way possible and i look up to you so much! i even got bullied at school and got called a “knock if version of dodie clark.” but i took it as a compliment because i was honored to be called anything that associated you!! 🌻💛🌞
0 likesThis video was really interesting! I like YouTube musicians because it’s like they’re more personal with there audience and their videos are more easily accessible (not everyone likes/uses social media like Instagram or snapchat). Also can you please do some sort of hair tutorial? I love it so much!
0 likesi love that you made a video on this, and even if it is quite sad we are all happy that you are changing. It is a sign of improving (most of the time)
0 likesIt’s saddening that others on this platform that have actual talents have to be categorized the same as those who disrupt it. Also with having to deal with demonetization for a perfectly good video. However, it’s awesome but bittersweet to hear that creators are exploring other ways to do what they love while earning a living, knowing they may not post as often.
1 likeAs long as you along with others feel good about what you’re doing, I’ll feel just as good as well.
2 likesYou're videos on here have been something that I have always looked forward to and loved since I came across your channel in 2013. And if you decide to take a step back I will miss your (near?) constant presence on Youtube but I know you will be off creating beautiful music that I cannot wait to hear. I just wanted to say thank you for all of the wonderful content you have given us!'
0 likeswhatever you end up doing, it’s alright. i’m doing just fine keeping up with you without youtube! and you seem happier being focused on bigger things and not being stuck in the rut that youtube has become for lots of creators. i’m really proud of how far you’ve come.
0 likesYou're awesome Dodie and I'm sure you can build a family like community wherever you choose to post your content.
0 likesLiterally been watching YouTube videos since I was like 11,im 18 now and it's so nostalgic to have grown up watching your videos and people like Emma blackery, Charlie,Carrie, Dan and Phil, h3h3, pewds. ❤️🦋
0 likesWhen somebody asks who my favourite artist is, I always say dodie.
0 likesPlease you can't quit your my life and soul! This is all I have to see you since I'm too poor to go to your show! I also am heavily inspired by you and YOU were the one who helped me with coming out as bi! If you feel uncomfortable here, you can. Go but I don't want you to look ughh my heartttt
0 likesI’d be lying if I said your YouTube videos didn’t literally save my life (that’s weird sorry lol) but they did and if you leave I’ll of course miss them since they mean so much to me but seeing you grow into the performer you can be will make up for it almost completely because you deserve the success you are/can achieve no matter how you get it 🌸💕
0 likesyour happiness means the world, and we'll support you no matter what your future endeavours may be. we may never meet in person but know i'm rooting for you in every way possible x
1 likei love how you addressed it! it's completely right ♥
0 likesYou are incredibly good at music <3
0 likesThe only thing I would miss about you uploading on YouTube is the “raw” versions of your new songs. But I suppose those could be uploaded anywhere! Either way, your true fans will support you no matter what
0 likesI love you and will forever be thankful for everything you have put out into the world that continues to help thousands. What is important is your mental health and well being and what you are confirmed with doing. As long as you take care of yourself we will be happy. You're incredible for the way you use the influence (i think thats the right word) you have on people to share positivity and make a difference. ♡
0 likesHey I've missed you😘 my life's been a bit crazy recently, my cat was put down and I felt awful but now I have an apprenticeship which I'll be starting soon and one day I'll be an accountant. But along with all of this I'm still watching all of your videos and loving you more and more ❤️❤️
0 likesI’ll always support you no matter what you do in you career ❤️❤️ ALSO Dodie I’m meeting you at vidcon!! I’m so excited!!
0 likesPlease don't leave! I live to watch your videos and I love you so much. I feel so connected to you when I watch your videos. I love your music aswell but it just wouldn't be the same on YouTube without you. You are my sun, moon and stars. You are basically my inspiration and I love you. You're so cool.
0 likesThis has always been a place to put creative things, but beyond that we shouldn't be afraid to form our own relationships with it. If the creators I love stop making things on here it'll be a little sad to let go of that part of them, but it also makes room for them to create new things that I'll enjoy elsewhere. I hope if I ever stop making things here people will feel the same way.
22 likesWhenever I talk about dodie to someone I say “oh she’s my favourite musician” because that’s how I see her.
0 likesDear dodie, your videos are what make this platform wonderful.
0 likesjust please please please don’t quit x
0 likesyou’ve helped me through so much dodie:)
Never quit you and your videos and you smile makes my day and so does your music but having more than one creative outlet music and YouTube make you and going to see you live is still the best thing that has ever happened and the best day of my life I love your work and you have helped me through lots and learning to play the ukulele to learn your music has too and thank you ❤️
0 likesMe and loads of other people will definitely continue to follow you and listen to your music no matter what platform it’s on!
0 likesthis is v true. youtubers work harder then anyone realises! love you lots x
0 likesHi dodie!!! This was a wonderful vid as always!!! How’s it going?
0 likesI really love you so much dodie! I don't want you to leave because your videos are really helpful and make me feel good. I'd be okay if you left, and will respect your decsion, but I feel as though you are very helpful towards alot of people.
0 likesI feel like Dodie is literally the most relatable person, you know? I mean she’s just like me. She’s funny, cute, an introvert (totally fine btw. So am I), her songs are great, I love her singing videos, and her videos are the best. ❤️
0 likesThese points are very interesting! I haven't heard/thought about a lot of them. It definetly helps in understanding the creators that do leave, break, etc. etc.
0 likesI extremely love your content. Im okay with you not posting ever. But hey, a post once and a while is nice. Your other videos are nice to rewatch. Just be you and focus on what's more important
0 likesGosh! The editing on this video has given me stitches in laughing!! Tho, on a serious note, this video is very eye-opening and has a very Dodie touch!
0 likesI'll support you in whatever you choose to do. I love your beautiful content so much and I understand where you're coming from. Whatever is best for you, choose it. Whatever you do, you've always got this girl as a fan!!!!
0 likesI love your channel, but it’s not the fact that it’s on YouTube or even specifically the videos themselves. It’s just you as a person. I love your personality, your kind heartedness and your musical creations. I, and I’m sure many others, will continue to love you whatever platform you use to share with us.
0 likesThank you, Dodie!
0 likesi love you dodie and would respect your decision either way ♡
0 likesi wish people understood youtube the way we do but they have no idea how many incredible creators are on here with a wonderful fanbase
Thank you for shedding bits of light on this <3 and yupp gotta find the best comfy way to share <3 Love you
0 likesI just found out about dodie last year and now she’s talking about leaving. Her songs, they got me through a lot. For the longest time I was able to see my life played in a song through her compositions and it helped with all the stress and depression that was going through my head before. Cause her songs make me feel... not alone. Thanks, Dodie.
0 likesI loved your video and I wanted you to know I bought your book today and it is absolutely wonderful ☺️☺️
0 likesYOU ARE REALLY GOOD AT MUSIC AND YOU DESERVE TO GIVE YOURSELF COMPLIMENTS! I love you and please take care💕
0 likesas a musician on youtube I have felt discouraged before..because I put a lot of my energy and time on videos but I don't get much recognition and so I feel like my channel is stuck and not moving forward ..maybe thats why some of them leave youtube..

Yesss, I feel this too! I've subscribed to you though 😄
3 likesaw thanks! I subscribed to you too
4 likesLinaRiver7 aw 😁
0 likesI feel the same way!
0 likesI love that you also make videos like this apart from vlogs and music. You are very wise 🍩🍩
0 likesno matter whether or not you "leave" this platform, you can be reassured there will be myself and hundreds of thousands of others who will continue to follow (??? is that creepy) you on your musical journey
0 likesI don't even know how normal YouTubers do it, I wonder how a person with record deals and stuff is going to be able to pull off making videos and making professional music at the same time w/o losing quality. As long as you can make them and you want to make them, do it. I'd hate to see the day that your content here is forced just because your audience wants more of it. Your community is one of the best here on YouTube and I think that whatever you choose to do in the future, we'd be here to support you.
1 likeLove you dodie will continue to support you no matter what💛
0 likesNEVER QUIT! LOVE YOU DODIE! XOXO😘
4 likesThe idea of you quitting YouTube saddens me cuz your videos have helped me through a lot. Youre like a little ray of sunshine on my darkest days. I understand what you are saying as well, everyone needs a break now and then❤

My thoughts right into this comment on 12:42 am with 4 hours of sleep heh
0 likesBesides the stigma around being a Youtuber I also get that musicians need to brand themselves as, well, musicians to get record label-y type people to take them seriously + to be able to spread your music more amongst regular folks who might not be too familar with Youtube in general.
1 likeHello dodie, my friend in my a capella group tweeted you to let you know that we’re turning Would You Be So Kind into an a capella arrangement for our new album!!! ( ps love you and we will all let you know when our a capella album with Would You Be So Kind on it comes out :) )
0 likesAs a very small (and hopefully growing😊) musician/YouTuber, I look up to you so much, and would even go as far to say that you inspired me to start writing my own songs and putting them on YouTube, I really hope YouTube can still be a place for musicians to share their hard work and for it to be recognised, I don't know any other place on the internet where this would be possible!!
0 likesI don’t want to sound or be dramatic, and I’ll still obviously support you and whatever content you make in whatever platform you choose, but I’ll miss your videos
1 likeThe videos I loved most from you were your life videos, like story times in the bathtub and you building you loft bed.
0 likesI’m all for musicians moving on from YouTube if that’s truly what they’d like to do but I do miss the close community that comes with a musician that’s on YouTube. Love you 💙
0 likesThis was such a good video and really good reasoning ☺️
0 likesYoutube started the fame for some of these musicians; our views that built their name/brand. Then they stop sharing their content with the ones that helped them grow their success in the first place. Seems a little unfair to me :/
2 likesBut the reason musicians who started on YouTube have an audience to build upon to become "serious "is because of the platform and how all types of people can see your content. If they didnt want to be seen as a "youtube musician " they shouldn't have posted
1 likeI would really miss you if you quit YouTube your an amazing youtuber and musicians love you so much dodi your amazing
0 likesI really wish there was a decent alternative platform to YouTube. Been having a lot of issues with it recently, and being unable to talk to support that can actually help is impossible
0 likesi get that it can be difficult to be taken seriously if you do put out videos but sometimes it seems like as soon as musicians get big they are suddenly 'too good' for youtube *cough cough troye*. it's kind of discouraging :(
2 likesI really love you dodie and i love your music and other vids you put out. If you do go, that's cool, it's chill. I will miss your other videos but it's your channel, your life, do whatever the fuck you want
0 likesdo whatever makes you happy, and whatever helps you get your content out to the world, because your music and lyrics are beautiful and amazing and everyone deserves to know who dodie is, yes it would be sad for you to leave us, but for you to be happy and even more successful would be fantastic 💓💓
0 likesmuch love from niagara falls !!!💞
If you quit youtube I’ll sue you. You’re one of the very few non-self centred YouTube’s we have left.
3 likesi love you, we love you no matter what decision you choose we will still support you. keep that on mind.
0 likesHello Dodie, I discovered you on Spotify a year ago without previous knowledge of your role as a YouTuber.

This was actually really insightful <3

7 likesI fully support your decision, but could you let us know where we can find you when you do move platforms? I love your music and I don’t want to lose it. Keep being you and do what you think is best💕
0 likesYour videos have always sort of been there for me to watch throughout everything (when I’m depressed, when I’m happy, when I’m comfortable, when I’m stressed, etc.) because of how real you’ve been through YouTube.
0 likesDont leave us dodie. You have helped me so much.
0 likesIt's been hard for me to be consistent, I do vlogs, share some of my music and tips for songwriting and production and some other random videos but than I get so busy in the studio, I haven't been able to find that balance, still working on figuring this out. Channels under 1000 Subscribers aren't able to monetize at all, which is pretty crappy. And anyone who says youtubers are lazy have no clue how much work goes into this. I feel it's still an amazing platform. All the best to you! <3

1 likeAs someone who's only just started posting music content on YouTube it makes me a bit sad to hear this. Is it worth me putting effort into getting my music onto this platform at all? :/
0 likesBut I'm super glad dodie has other options so she doesn't have to rely on this entirely
Dodie you have inspired me to try music on here. I've known you years don't give up on us.
0 likesI love that you and Emma Blackery don’t quit YouTube when you do music 🎶💫
0 likesI've just recently started youtube as a musician but now i am doubting whether to continu or not because you sure did make some points about not being taken seriously...
0 likesI'm ok with them "quitting" BUT WHY DO THEY DELETE/MAKE PRIVATE ALL THEIR VIDEOS
3 likesReplies (2)
because people take their old opinions as truth, when they’ve changed and grown so much. also the stigma i mentioned in the video :)
3 likesdoddlevloggle Thanks for your reply, Dodie.
0 likesI understand completely, seeing as YouTube’s new algorithms aren’t doing anything to help creators who are actually doing something meaningful.
0 likesAll that matters is that you are happy and have done what’s best for you and your career.
0 likesas much as i love you and your videos i would totally respect your decision to quit youtube. if you feel that youtube is now more of a chore than it was before then do what’s best for you. even if you leave, it doesn’t mean you can never return. you might come back after a couple years, you never know. either way, good luck and i love you
0 likesi'll be happy to support your music and other content however you decide to share it. love u :))

Noooo dodie I love ur vlogs and rambles and stuff ur so open abt stuff and ur acc a good role model that many ppl look up to bc ur on that milenial-gen z border
0 likesevery single person that i follow on youtube deserves more, youtube was a wonderful platform idea (and could still be) but it has been reduced down to a horrible copy of the already horrible mainstream media. To be honest, hell yea i miss you sharing, cause is like not hearing from a friend for some time, but it's a good decision with what they are doing to the platform.
0 likesI totally get the stigma thing. I feel it myself when people ask me who that "dodie" is I'm talking about, and I try to describe you, I can't help to add that you're a Youtuber, and that does make them change their opinion on you directly. Makes it seem less "serious". Go do your thing dodie ☀
0 likesOh my god please never leave us dodie I could not cope 💕
0 likesWell we won't mind of you take a break 💜
79 likeswe love a “big strong musician”
0 likesYour voice is so soothing to me, absolutely amazing
0 likesAlright Dodes.
0 likesWe love and support you no matter what!
1 like"I'm not a youtuber, I'm an influencerrrr"
53 likessorry ^^'
but yeah, I understand the hatred for youtube and stigma, though I fell like that's mainly in the UK and maybe USA but other countries aren't necessarily like that (France for example).
But yeah.
0 likesi totally understand those reasons! youtube has been low key shit lately bc of demonetizing the wrong videos and supporting those who, like sammy said, play it safe
0 likesWhatever and wherever you share your music/creativity we will all support you !! <33
0 likesi showed my friend a chapter of your book today because i couldn’t for the life of me figure out how to explain the spaced out being that i have been these past few weeks and although she couldn’t understand she grasped it a lot more so thank you xx

0 likesI am currently reading your book and it is really helping me through a difficult time.
0 likesI also wish that when you would tell someone you do YouTube, they would say it's so cool and that you're inspiring people.
0 likes:(. I'll miss your lifey type vids like this one, those are my favorite videos you make. Love and support you, and maybe you could upload a video a year? Just throwing out ideas. One day I want enough money to buy your book and music. ❤.

0 likesI love your content oh so much and have for ages! But we are human and could move on, we’d love you no matter and will never stop listening to your music!! :>
0 likesI honestly think that YouTube is a great platform for sharing music, especially the fact that you have so many fans & your music is very damn beautiful goddess-like & popular.
0 likesI wanted to do YouTube for years and years but only started uploading videos in late 2016. More and more I just feel like I completely missed the window in which it was a viable platform. It just feels like screaming into the void nowadays and I absolutely hate that people like Logan Paul are being rewarded and supported and wonderful, authentic and actually nice creators don't even get a chance to shine.
0 likesI love you Dodie and I'm happy to jump ship as soon as you move to a different platform!
i won’t be able to cope if dodie quits :((((((
4 likesthis is actually really helpful because I want to do YouTube like you xox
0 likesThis is a very good insight.
0 likesAnyway, please keep doing what you love and showing it to the world. Your music and the slices of your life are gem.
Some of my favorite artists are on youtube (yourself included), and I never would have found them otherwise. Probably half of what I listen to is artists from the internet and not major labels.
0 likesI love how some of your words are unintentionally musical

Please, please, please do not stop making videos. You have helped me so much in life advice and overall tips in life and I don’t know what I would do if I couldn’t hear your voice once in a while (not in a musical way) because it’s so soothing and calming. Whatever you decide, all of your fans will forever support your decisions even when you become a big-shot pop musician on the radio. 💛💛
0 likesI had wondered the reason behind it before and this actually makes a lot of sense<3
0 likesdodie Ilysm and it would be sad to see you go. You’re a fantastic artist and just a beautiful person in general.

0 likesI know it's only a platform but if you do quit YouTube it'll feel very empty, no matter what you do on other platforms - I respect your choice, of course, I guess it's just a nostalgia thing after being subscribed to you for so long. I love you anyways, thanks for making YouTube a better place, and giving us a safe space in the middle of the chaos that this platform is becoming.
0 likesIs it just me or is dodie’s speaking voice a little musical? And I kinda love it?

3 likesIt’s funny I was just thinking about this and what your current thoughts are on it - whatever you decide to continue doing we will always support your endeavours. Minds, people, platforms do change but I’m positive your amazing creativity won’t. It will just evolve, which is something we all need to do to stay happy, and we need it so that we can always strive to improve and better know our craft. You have such talent Dodie and I hope everyone who meets you knows that :)

0 likesOf course we will be sad when you do eventually leave but we will always remember you as the talented, bi girl, that is an inspiration to a lot of people.. also has her own colour.
Love you dodie x
while i completely understand musicians' perspectives on wanting to sound like a serious creator, the problem is that by all of the "legit" youtubers quitting, it leaves the logan pauls and other dumbasses to define the platform. so, by staying on youtube, musicians are helping to legitimize the platform and, by extension, themselves.
0 likesI missed you so much. Oh gosh I sound like a creepy stalker. Keep doing what you're doing girl!
0 likesWe (or most) totally understand. We will continue to support you no matter what :>

I do love your channel
0 likesHowever this makes a lot of sense and I will totally understand whatever you choose to do... I follow you on instagram now so I see more anyway
I‘d completely understand if you‘d „turn away“ from youtube, because you want to be taken more seriously or because you just don‘t have the bloody time.
1 likebut I have to say: it would be sad to have less of you and to not have your ramble videos and cute little „i‘m making tea“ or „i‘m potting a plant“ videos. they make me (and I think a lot of us) feel very connected to you and it I feel like, knowing more of your life makes me understand your music better.
Now Conan Gray has gone and quit and its kinda sad
5 likesif she stops going to playlist and vidcon though i thiNk i might cry - i know she gets busy but conventions are an easy place to feel like you’re on the same level with the celebrity instead of completely inferior to them. you can hang out with cool people in a safe place and meet your idols!! i just think it’s rly important for her to keep meeting her fans and give them that opportunity
2 likesand i kNOW she gets busy and i can completely respect that but i do really hope she continues with youtube tyPe conventions for a least a couple more years

5 likesto me you're a youtuber.
0 likesi love you and you should do whatever makes you feel happy and comfortable but i truly do love your videos dodie and they always brighten my day!
0 likeswhatever choice u choose i'll always support and respect and love u all the way dodie!
0 likesHOW DID I NOT NOTICE THE REALLY NOTICEABLE SINGING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE VIDEOS
3 likesyoutube was the first platform I ever used to share my music and I used to enjoy it and had a decent following but I've sort of stopped using it because I feel like it's gotten too big and it's so much harder for your work to be recognized, especially as a musician. I don't know what it is that's changed exactly but it's disappointing cause' it used to be great for sharing music and growing. I've moved onto soundcloud lol
0 likesif you feel more comfortable quitting youtube, as a fan, I will support totally and follow to the other place/site/wherever you share your great musics! <3
0 likesI see you as a great musician and a YouTuber. Just because of those things doesn’t mean you are a bad person. You inspired me to get more into song writing and singing. And I am probably not the only one you inspired.

1 likeI find it so interesting to see when other people say that ‘you owe it to YouTube’ or be like ‘we deserve to have content’... like 💁♀️ It’s dodie’s life and she is making music so respect that??? Why is it so difficult for some people to understand that??
0 likeswhy am i emotional?
0 likesbecause you're a very beautiful person, both inside and out.
0 likesAbout the "little self compliment" thing, I'm never sure when or how to give myself a compliment in public because if you say you're the worst you look like you're begging for compliments from others but if you say you're the greatest you come off as boastful and selfish, so what do I do
0 likesLOVE YOU DODES!!!! 💗 NOTIFICATION SQUAD?
9 likesyou're GREAT at music!
0 likesYoutube is a great way with connecting with people!
0 likesIf you ever quit YouTube I don’t know what I’d do because your videos give me hope and insight and make me feel so much less alone.
0 likesHere’s my two cents on this subject:
8 likesYouTube has pretty much been my life for the past 5-6 years.

1 likeHey, I know what you mean. But I totally get how you feel. hugs

0 likesDodie, while I would miss you a hand full, I would totally understand and support your decision if you decided or decide to not post as often or didn't post at all. I love you, your music, and by no means what so ever associate you with people like logan paul :)
0 likes"When musicians quit Youtube, we're not missig them as "Youtubers", we're just missing the way in which they shared." I feel like this was (at least for me) the main point of the video.
0 likesI think it's interesting that musicians sharing music on Youtube is seen poorly or unprofessional, since it's still sharing music.

0 likesEither way, thank you for sticking around Dodie, and gracing us with your adorable personality <3 and of course, your music ;)

1 likeThe thumbnail made me sad.
0 likesI don’t usually comment, but I just wanted to let you that whatever you do I’ll support you—you’re my favorite musician and I really look up to you.
0 likesYour song “Secret For The Mad” means so much to me and I wish I could tell you in person, but alas...

0 likesI think this was very well said. And I do think that youtube has tried to drift away from LGBTQ+ content and I think it is a shame. I also agree about your perspective on not being taken seriously by using the label "youtuber". For many people on youtube, they are more than what people expect they are because of those used as the face of youtube.
0 likesi love you so much and i never want you to leave youtube💛💛

0 likesdodie, tbh you will always have a way of sharing how you're feeling and shit like that. the only thing that gets me depressed about this is that maybe you're going to be like troye sivan and we will never see that part of you that you showed here, yeah still open, still tweeting, but just not those calming 10 minutes videos of you rambling, or talking out one of your depressed episodes or just the thought of going on your channel and seeing that the last video you posted was 2 years ago and that you're this famous celebrity that doesn't interact with their fans. but to be honest, i know you aren't like that, i know you will send different messages than the others and you always read comments even tho you don't respond, i love you and support any decision you make if it makes you happy💞
0 likesi think a good thing about youtube is that you get a visual component as well as the music you make, which i think are both important ways to express yourself as an artist.
0 likesme and my friend got the notif for this and scrambled to end facetime so we can watch it — also it’s okay if you need breaks now and again, and we know you’ll be back at some point

0 likesidk i know you're busy as a musician, but i find you from youtube 2 years ago. i am verry happy for your success, i just sometimes don't get why musicians in youtube have to quit youtube forever, by forever i meant they not uploading anything. i'm perfectly fine if for example you just uploading once a month or even once every two months, because your youtube fans miss your videos. idk.. this is my opinion.
0 likesa little out of topic but once i loved troye sivan, i followed him untill he's a huge musician now, don't get me wrong, i'm fucking happy for him, but i'd be lying if i said i'm not sad or disappointed by him quiting youtube.
sorry for my bad english, it's not my first language.
listening to you calms my pre exam anxiety so much
0 likesPeople are forgetting that Youtube is just A PLATFORM. That's all. If the platform isn't serving the creator, they have all the right to transfer to another, or better yet, find better ways to share their sweet sweet content! The creator doesn't owe anything to the platform, especially if the platform is unfair to begin with.

i'm trying not to be selfish here but if i'm honest, i'd really really miss your videos. you talking about stuff and problems and your life has helped me when i was in a bad place. so i guess i have some sentimental value attached to you being a youtuber. not that i don't love your music, but it wouldn't be the same if you'd quit, at least for me. i'm not trying to make you feel bad, btw. you and your videos just mean a lot to some ppl.

4 likesI think I would be sad if you quit YouTube but at the same time I would understand. :)
1 likeWhat other video sharing platforms do you guys recommend? I only know of Vimeo and there doesn't seem to be much of a community on there.
0 likesThe first musician I followed on Youtube was Julia Nunes. So I don't blame you for not keeping up while being busy with other things surrounding you career.

also I just finished your book, and I adore it so much.
0 likesAfter recently listening to your audio book it's like I have a more inside look to how you feel about things and how it got to that place(audio book was amazing btw cried quite a few times) but I feel that although YouTube's original idea was to be a space where people can express themselves and be able to connect with people who they may be able to relate with.

167 likesim very happy that you are comfortable enough to share all of this and you made some wonderful points in this video. it’s very frustrating to know that when people think of the "face of YouTube" they often think first of the Paul brothers and other problematic people before they see the people that are doing good. it’s also frustrating to explain to others that our favorite creators aren’t lazy or doing YouTube to make easy money, because creators like you and many others are doing YouTube to make yourself and others happy.
0 likeshi dodie,
0 likesyou'll probably never see this but i just want to tell you that you've been such an inspiration to me, your videos and your book bring me so much positivity and i have no idea what id do without them.
i actually did an english presentation on you, where me and another friend had to tell the entire class about your life and we had to analysis to of your songs (we chose life lesson and secret for the mad). i hate doing presentations because they give me so much anxiety and stress, but i did this because i wanted the people in my class to see how much of an inspiration you are.
i hope you have a great day and i hope you continue to make me and other people happy! i love you <3
i personally would be ok if you left: although i love your videos, i'm a musician too and i'd never want to be a youtuber because i'm afraid of it becoming my "main thing" in the eyes of others

0 likesIt is your life and though you have no flippin clue who I am, your youtube content has really spared my life more than once.
0 likesThis is so relevant and beautiful.
0 likesI would certainly still support you and your music if you ever left youtube. However, I tend to find my favorite musicians solely from YouTube because you get to know the artist on such a more personal level through the platform and that is what I love. When people leave, I don't connect to them or their craft as much.
0 likesUnrelated to the message in this video, I got an ad for John Mayer’s new music video and I am not mad one bit.
0 likesFriggin love that dude and his music.
0 likesyou’ve grown your own audience based on your musical talent and personality, if that’s not a professional musician I don’t know what is. You don’t have to self-deprecate so others feel more comfortable.
0 likesI get why musicians, or anyone, leave YouTube. It's a big time commitment to upload consistently, if you have another source of income or areas you're more passionate about it doesn't really make sense to keep up your channel or stay on but only upload something when you happen to have time to do it.
0 likesI support any decision that you make because honestly being a musician and producing albums and such are probably gonna help you grow a bit more than YouTube. As a fan, I think a lot of us still really enjoy the YouTube content you produce and we love to see you grow, but if the next step in growing is taking a break and moving to other platforms we will support you completely. I can't speak for everyone, but I know that's how I feel at least.
0 likesWhen the youtube notification pops up with your name i get so excited, i have an addiction to you
2 likesThe new algorithm really sucks to the point where YouTube will lose legit creators like you and will keep some nasty shit wannabes because that's what is selling. I really want this platform to have that "harmony" again like in the good old days of YouTube but... sounds impossible nowadays. I hope one day we will get a new video platform where everyone would be free to support, share and just have fun creating content and where it would never be demonitized.
0 likesDodie, I love you and it's okay if you want to leave from this damn platform. ^_^ :)

0 likesI LOVE YOU DODIE :)
0 likesI don’t fault musicians for not staying on YouTube. If someone doubted my skills because of something I was involved with I’d consider dropping it too.
0 likesIf I were talking to someone who asked me what my position is, I'd say a musician who uploads their content on a variety of different platforms so then the youtuber word isn't used, but if they find you on here, then it won't be as much of a surprise, because you said a variety of platforms.
0 likesim so sorry but can we just appreciate how cute dodie looks in this video. I love her.
0 likesYou look beautiful in this dodie❤️❤️
0 likesWatching your videos at 18 birthday is like best gift ❤❤❤
0 likesI'll miss what happens with your cello lessons and how you would brilliantly edit in your ukulele like two twins in a tonal war or something ;)
0 likesDodie, just your voice is music

Very well said!
0 likeswill love you no matter what dods xx
0 likesalso some musicians cant make a living on youtube because people steal their songs or reupload and that can be frustrating
0 likesi love you lots dodie🌻
0 likesPlease do a hair tutorial on your current look. I adore it!
0 likesPlease do a room tour of your new arranged room! ♥️
0 likesYou only even got the chance to produce music to the large audience you have because of YouTube. Remember that dodie.
0 likesAwww I love you so much dodie
0 likesI’ll still support u if you ever decide 2 leave 💛
0 likesdodie i support you wholeheartedly if you wanted to leave because that’s your choice. i will forever love your music so much. thank you for not being another loud millennial on this website <3
0 likesI fully understand why musicians would leave YouTube and why you might choose to leave/take breaks, but I think the biggest fear for your audience (or at least me) is that we won’t be as connected to you.
0 likesi understand why musicians tend to quit youtube, and if you quit i would still listening to your music just as much as I do now :)
0 likeson a serious note, do what you think is best. as long as you're happy, so are we (:
0 likesdont quit youtube.but i’ll still be fine.i mean i like your voice and videos and specifically you but like i love you
0 likessuddenly remembers that troye left youtube 2 years ago and the fandom is still waiting for him to come back
1 likeCRIES IN GAY
To be frank, and please dont take this the wrong way, but I started watching your videos a few years ago for your other content, not for the music. The genre I listen to is very different to yours dodie, I do however love watching the other types of videos you upload. I used to watch Troy for the same reason. So if you left youtube, I would understand, but be very sad to see you go.
0 likesIf you left YouTube I would seriously miss the content you make here but I know you’d make the right decision in the end and I will be there for all of your amazing music!
0 likesPlease don’t leave love you 💛🖤💛🖤
0 likesif you quit youtube, i'll be gutted and sad, sure, but ultimately i'll respect your decision and love you regardless
0 likesdodie giving us penny pingleton vibes and i love it
0 likesYou uploaded this right as I was watching Absolutely Smitten x3 Because of you im getting a ukulele this summer :D
0 likesOk, I know you'll probably never see this, but there's a show on next week at The Courtyard Theatre called Shakespeare's Sister and a few of your songs are being featured (secret for he mad and burned) and they only heard you recently because of the director suggesting this, it would be awesome if you could come along (if you're in London) and see it!
0 likesDont leave YouTube
0 likesI looooooove ur channel
i think that if you will ever want to quit posting videos because it helps you in your career, everyone will understand. and if they don't they are quite dumb(vERy DuMB) . by the way i love you, you helped me getting through my darkest days. i really appreciate what you do =) (also sorry for my bad english)
0 likesIz ok dodie 😊 u evolve lyk a beautiful butterfly 💛
0 likesDon't leave us !! Instagram and Twitter is not enough :( :C
0 likesNooo My heart is beating sooo fast after reading the title 😦❤️
0 likesI see the point you'd quit, YouTube has changed intensely and yes, demonitising the lgbtq+ videos ect (btw i just wanted to say i knew you from your bi song :) and people see youtube no longer for musicians, talent. Of course, everyone will be upset, but your fans will understand, i do (: xx
0 likesI think we'll all understand if you want to quit yt, but just know it'll be EXTREMELY painful. Lots of luck with whatever you'll do next:)
0 likesWow!!!! Her hair grows sooo freaking fasttt
0 likesmaybe i shouldn't be crying but the thought of not watching you as i have for so long scares my little fragile mind
0 likesWhatever you do, jist please tell us. I want to know and be able to support you with whatever you do moving ahead.
0 likeshonestly, youtube or no youtube, i don't care. i will love dodie no matter what
0 likesdo you think you'll ever make and sell your albums in vinyl?
1 likeI don't know why, but lately every time i see dodie's posts i keep feeling that she's gotten really pretty, i mean she has been pretty but lately she's getting prettier and prettier...what
0 likesthat title made me think of troye sivan and I cried for a solid ten minutes. thanks dodie.
0 likesI would respect and support your decision if you left, but it would literally crush me...
0 likeseven if you leave we will all support you
0 likesYou are definitely a musician among your fan base dodie.
0 likeswell, Dodie, I think we will all miss the days of veda vedm vedj vedf and all your silly but entertaining videos but things change and people outgrow things that's ok ill probably come back to this channel from time to time to watch some of your videos that I obsessed over since I was 14 because it reminds me of then but then come back to my life now as a kinda adult best of luck in the future and your career as a musician
0 likesIf you leave I think I will give up on YouTube all together...you look fab in this by the way! xxx
0 likesI'm sorry , this is not to do with the video, but I love you so much , you are my aesthetic! 💖💖😙
0 likesEven her talking is a bop OmUrGuD
1 likeI love all of the self love ❤️
0 likesI'll miss you, Dodie
0 likesWhen youtube musicians quit youtube the problem isn't that they take their content to another platform, it's that they abandon the kind of things that got them popular in the first place.
0 likesPlease don’t quit. I’ll miss you
0 likesLove you dodie xoxo
0 likesWho else stans Dodie's longer hair? 💛💛💛
0 likesCompletely agree with this video, however surely the best way to make it clear to main stream media that "serious" musicians or even just creative and genuinely talented people can existed on YT is to continue even partially with YT? The only way the main stream media will realise that YT isn't just lots of Logan Paul's is if they meet people, like you Dodie, who can identify with the term Youtuber however is also a serious musician.
1 likeJust a thought, again I agree with this video wholeheartedly! x

0 likesI’m not going to force you to not quit YouTube but I really love you so please don’t but I understand what you are saying so..
0 likesPLZ DONT QUIT YOUR THE BEST
0 likesIf you quit I will literally cry myself to sleep, unless quitting will make you happier then I’ll be fine with it
0 likesyoutube isnt giving anyone a good reason to stay at the moment
2 likesIf you quit I will be fine as long as u keep up with ur music
0 likesIf you leave YouTube I will obviously be said but as long as I can see and listen to your music I will be eternally as happy as I can be.
0 likesI’ll always support you through whatever you do but I would miss you if you quit YouTube
0 likesLike seriously I would be really happy for you if that were your decision but it would feel like losing a friend...
0 likesSo I really want to start making YouTube videos, I'm really interested in the filmmaking process and social media, I'm thinking of maybe pursuing a career in film when I finish school, but I'm sorta scared that people I know irl will think I'm just another cringy teen, wannabe zoella, just in it for the fame sort of person as soon as they hear that I make videos.
0 likesI just wanna make stuff and put it out there like it seems so interesting and fun!
What do i doooo?
I absolutely love your music obviously. But is there any way you could keep posting talking stuff. It could literally be vlogs like you don’t have to take as much time with what you make. I just like to hear your voice, it’s calming and makes me happy.
0 likesReplies (2)
If you do quit YouTube I will still love you so much. I just really love listening to you speak.
0 likesyes I totally agree, that would be amazing if at all possible!! :)
1 likeyou do you, boo; we got you
0 likesDodie I will be v sad if you quit YouTube but I’ll also support the decision. It’s your decision and it’s your life! Love you always!♥️
0 likesI’ll be very sad if you stop but if it makes you happier to I support you
0 likesI think some people may be freaking out about you using another platform because they might not use whatever other platform (twitter, instagram, etc.) as regularly as YouTube.
0 likesDodie, I really love your music but you already left youtube. You can't fool anyone, you post here once in two months if we're lucky. I love your personality, but I'm gonna unsubscribe. But I hope that you're gonna improve. Have a good day everyone
0 likeswell I'm really happy you're growing but I'll definitely miss your videos if u quit :/
0 likesAm I the only one who has heart feelings over this? I don’t want her to go. It’s like she’s going to leave all of us for something bigger and better. No hate.
0 likesWhen I read that title I nearly had a heart attack-
0 likesThis explained ALOT but please don't quit YouTube
0 likesI love you! So much! Whatever you wanna do!
0 likesIf you do quite YouTube at least let us know and at least make it a meaningful end.
0 likesI was suprised to see you sell out good sized venues in Portland and Seattle. You're more famous than I thought.
0 likesim still mourning the loss of troye’s youtube :,(
0 likesDo you sing when you talk on purpose or do you just have that musical of a voice?
0 likesyou are to me (a big shot musician)
0 likesi think the whole dodie communnity should be fucking proud of dodie , she's doing it amazing and she's living her life .
0 likesilyyyy <33
Could you do an updated room tour ?! X
0 likesYouTube isn't your main platform anymore? Can you tell us what you are using the most now?
2 likes>“It might take some persuading to show them that I am legit.”<
0 likesI want to become an actress and I’m starting on YouTube, but sometimes I don’t like telling people that because they will either be genuinely supportive, pretend to think it’s a cool idea then immediately change the subject to college/“real jobs”, or cleeaarrly be skeptical about it. It’s very rare that I find a genuine supporter. The genuine supporters are my friends and family because they’ve seen my videos and think I have a legitimate shot at creating a career for myself. But others I have to persuade, and most of the time they still want me to talk about “the other ideas I have for my life”.
i just screamed "YES" so loud
0 likesThis made me a little bit sad, but I totally get your point and agree with it.
0 likesIt mighty be harder for me (and people from abroad) because I will probably never get to see you in a gig or a concert because I'm not from the UK, or Europe, or USA so your channel was a way to conect more with you.
As I said before, I support whatever you decide.
Love you loads
if you leave i will understand but that doesnt mean i wont cry my heart out
0 likesi understand leaving youtube as an artist and all, but i feel like how involved dodie is online and how her more vloggy/entertaining videos giver her a sense of realness i feel? i feel like if you take away all of her other titles or professions and just call her a musician, i think, and i think other fans of her would agree, that it just wouldn't be her. she'd just seem/be so much more corporate and disconnected from her audience that she loves so much as time would progress and she'd kinda just become just like every other artist that left youtube, making their audience feel abandoned.
0 likesReplies (2)
ironically she’s reading ur comment lol. also the point of this video was to say that i agree and so i won’t be stopping that. it just might not necessarily be on youtube, maybe
0 likesdoddlevloggle that makes sense, and i support whatever you do whole heartedly, as ive been watching you for so many years now and you've truely inspired me, i just was kind of playing with the idea of how your image and audience would change if you were to focus soley on your music.
0 likesI don’t like how YouTube has now come a money business for some people when you should just do it for you and other people to enjoy.
0 likesNot gonna lie, I would be disappointed if she quite but you do you boo, if she wants to nobody should force her to stay
0 likeswe support you no matter whattttttt

Please don't quit explainer entertainer send me I love your music
0 likesJust in case someone wants to hear dodie further talk about this topic, or basically this video, watch her instagram story - seems like some people don't really get what she meant😅
0 likes"The outside mainstream media has made people like Logan paul the face of Youtube." YouTube also made people like Logan Paul the face of YouTube tho. Mainstream forms of media with the exception of television mostly ignored YouTubers up until that point.
0 likes@dodie you ain’t no YouTuber anymore. You a full blown pRoFESsIoNaL mUsiCiAn
0 likes1:36 I thought she'd start singing now
0 likesUm girl? You ARE a bigshot musician cause you're making music and doing what you love in the company of simlarly-minded people who appreciate your talent
0 likesI love you dodie
0 likesI would much rather put my time and energy in being a musician/songwriter than posting videos.
0 likesSo doddie, from the point of a technophobe old fart like myself that likes to follow musicians like yourself what would you advise? It's a shame that i have to feel like a weirdo for posting this but i do, being in my early 40s. I just have enjoyed following young artist's and seeing how they get on. (I started following rhett and link when they started so you know how i found you!) it's incredible that my teenage daughter became a fan of yours of her own accord only to find out i was also a fan! I love we have that in common (the kid obviously has taste!) (hi molly, love you if you see this xxxx) she will be cringing like hell! x
0 likesI hope you don’t ever leave but if you want to then that’s your choice xx
0 likesYour hair looks so good!!!
0 likesI want to address the point you made about how when a musician quits youtube we "don't miss them as a youtuber, we miss they way they shared" mostly, I agree with that and I believe it is true however, I think there is another big part to that.
0 likesReplies (4)
Wow that was long I'm very sorry
0 likesit was long but valid!! i totally get that. i guess what i was trying to say in this video (but didn’t do very well) was that i don’t want to stop sharing behind the scenes and just because i might not do that via video content on specifically youtube doesn’t mean i won’t. it is a little worrying how you described knowing people on youtube more “personally” - there is still a “barrier” between strangers on the internet, especially if one of them is more well known. there are just boundaries you don’t cross with someone you feel like you know online. the point of sharing on youtube isn’t to say “but me and my audience are friends” (though i used to want that, i now know that’s impossible) but to say “my audience can understand i’m human and therefore imperfect and can stop idolising me” which tbh still doesn’t work sometimes lol.
0 likesdoddlevloggle I completely understand that.
0 likesdoddlevloggle Also wanna let you know that I have enjoyed your content (both music and vlogs) for a couple years now and I want to say that I will continue to enjoy your sharing wherever and however you do.
0 likesThat one dislike is one of those musicians who left.
0 likesOkay wait what I'm confused and panicking does this mean dodie is staying or leaving youtube?!
0 likesIt must be hard as a creator to have an audience that believes they control your life.
0 likesThanks
‘logan paul is the face of yt, other creators are scared away’
1 likePFFT THE SHADE I AM LIVING
YouTube is giving youtubers the stigma. The platform used to be about people like yourself creating music and videos for fun. Now everyone is trying to make a money at it.
0 likesI told you a long time ago, there can be no honesty when money is on the line.
Pssst. (@ troye) (kidding i love you both and can’t wait to see how much your careers grow from here. ❤️)
0 likesI love u ☹️💕 and I freaked out when u met Brendan urie I was like Two AMAZING PEOPLE IN THE SAME ROOM 😭❤️❤️
0 likesIt also makes it harder for smaller musicians deciding on whether they pursue their career through YouTube or through other means.
0 likeswe stan talent

0 likesI thought you quit YouTube for a while but this makes me understanddddddd
0 likesI’m gonna be honest, I thought the title said “magicians.”
0 likesEverybody is talking about Troye (no shade, I love Troye) but when I saw the title I immediately thought of Patty Walters. Sure his band As It Is is great and they're getting bigger but after watching his videos I miss him so much... I respect people's decisions but it saddens me to see that he hasn't posted in three years.
0 likesI don't agree. In my humble opinion, being a YouTuber is cool. It means you are creative and have lots of ideas (which I don't). I think it is great to do all these videos and entertain us. It takes a lot of courage and strength.
0 likesi love the little editing dodie pop ups awh
0 likesGuys, we move among plataforms since internet was made.

0 likeswhat a perfect human
0 likesI agree.

How it should have been if dodie wanted to reflect the style of the self centred, lazy, millennial YouTuber:
0 likesSomething to tell you- I'm quitting YouTube?!😥😭😭😤LAST VIDEO EVER?!?! I am so sorry guys
(Not clickbait) (emotional) (trigger warning)(gone wrong)
I actually never realised how bad the stigma with Youtubers and real artists are..its so mixed..wheres the divide between real artists like Dodie and the..*other* "creators" such as Logan Paul. Whaaaat..ugh.
0 likesPlease don't quit :(.

0 likesIf they're afraid of the stigma, then why don't they try and prove that it can be better instead of just leaving? Leaving doesn't help the stigma at all. In fact, I'd argue that it makes the stigma worse for everyone else.
0 likesDodie I'm traveling across the continent from Argentina to LA to see you in September PLEASE NOTICE ME I LOVE YOUUUU

0 likesI'm so sorry if this comment sounds mean. Is this some weird musician stereotype I have stumbled across far too many times?

lolol no truly. i am extremely guilty of that. guilty of it in terms of trying to prove to the world that i am legit, musically (though my music should do that on its own so basically - shut up dodie) and also just in general i take guilty pleasure in feeling different. i guess i’m annoyed people can spot that but - yh. a potentially unhealthy trait of mine!!
1 likebasically: i used youtube to get fame and now that i have it im leaving soon bye

but it’s ok
I kinda disagree with Sammy abit because I think it is semi-intentional.
0 likesIn the end YouTube is a Google platform and Google is a business, they wanna make money, people wanting to make a difference isn't making money.
I also don't like the fact that much of YouTube has been taken by the far right, anti-fems, etc (rebel media being one example), they seem to get a megaphone compared to youtubers that don't promote bigotry and hate.
i thought she was gonna break into a song at 1:36 lmao

0 likesWhat would be a better platform than Youtube? Because people who are now quitting, where do they go?
0 likesDodies videos are very scripted (not a bad thing) but I feel as if she's not really 'chatting' to us. She's teaching, sharing, informing. But I don't feel as if we're her 'pals'?? Idk
0 likesLove you lots ;) x
0 likesLol. I was just thinking about your videos and when your next one would be. 😊
0 likesI knew Logan Paul's name would come up after you said all the negative stereotypes of being a YouTuber lmao
0 likesso basically you quit youtube for a awhile cause you gave into what people thought of you but just so you know your songs were a lot better not professionly done my favorite song of yours is little mosquito and theres a storm coming tonight
0 likeswhy does 1:36 sound like she started singing hahahahaha
0 likesDodie is a fantastic YouTuber and extremely talented artist. But I don’t think it’s fair to accumulate such a big following on YouTube and then just use that following to go somewhere else and then to not provide that original following with the regularity of videos that made her famous
0 likesReplies (1)
but i would still be making the things that people followed me for - music. if people followed me for my videos and i didn’t want to do those anymore then i obviously wouldn’t mind one bit if they left or didn’t listen to my music because that’s their decision! i don’t think anyone owes anyone anything. we’re all just very grateful

0 likesA little and easy way for your fans and (in a minuscule way) friends to talk to you.
Fam. Imma cry if dodie leaves.

0 likesi think what’s worse is when someone is a youtuber, and then peruses a career in the music world because the perception of them being a youtuber is always there, but with you, you’ve always been a musical youtuber, and then whilst you still created musical videos you also introduced vlogs & more ‘influencer’ style videos, but throughout this you’ve always been a musician primarily. though in the wider picture, it is still very much a struggle to be given credit for how talented you are, and i just wish making youtube videos for musicians didn’t have such a negative connotation, because many artists we see nowadays upload ‘tour diaries’ to their youtube channels (be it vevo or their other official channel) and that is never considered to be the same kind of thing, but when you think about it, isn’t that the same as a vlog?

why do musicians “quit YouTube”?
0 likes(will i do a troye on you?!!?!?!)
0 likesAlso the part about being self-centered and shallow. So many youtubers really can be described that way.. when you watch their own videos vs. videos of them.. one can choose how he or she wants to present themselves on youtube, and wear that mask really well, but in reality, things that are usually cut out shine through.

that when people talk about "quitting youtube" what they're really talking about is stopping the current way in which they share and where they put the stuff they're making. And how I currently don't feel like I'll ever stop that (despite knowing that my desire to share will fluctuate) and so though I might not use this platform to do that I could continue on other platforms BASICALLY IT'S NOT BLACK AND WHITE U KNOW
1 likeI’m goin to be honest, you said youtube demonetizing LGBTQ+ videos I almost got pissed off and I’m never angry. That’s absolute shit, and it pisses me off that these types of things are still around. Like wtf
