CD Progressive Gears - PGR-CD0003 (2016, United Kingdom....,.. Another debut album that proudly and courageously presents its craft with an epic introduction, as is the case with British Neo-prog band This Winter Machine and their initial offering 'The Man Who Never Was'. The title track is a 4-piece suite that suggests clear admiration for the usual prog legends, as well as newer adventurers who combine concise musical skill, emotional melodies, effective lyrical content and a huge vocal delivery that exudes class and style. A well-crafted piece provides insight into the individual talents on display, keyboardist Mark Numan shows a strong preference for piano (always a good sign), Peter Priestly's potent bassist who enjoys partnering with drummer Marcus Murray and finally vocalist Al Wynter, whose voice certainly contributes to the mix. Guitarist Gary Jevon is completing the album lineup, but it looks like he's left the band in the meantime. Lyrically, the focus is on desolation, a serious sense of disconnection and crisis of identity, themes that surely reflect the apathetic universe in which we live today. There is an obvious adulation for Rush, although in my opinion, this does not lead to any attempt to clone the sound of mercurial Canadians. In fact, This winter machine proposes a softer touch, a deeply layered sound on which different instruments can show their talents, dense symphony and concise vision of teamwork and making strong melodic structures. CD Progressive Gears - PGR-CD0003 (2016., Ujedinjeno Kraljevstv....,..Još jedan debitantski album koji ponosno i hrabro predstavlja svoj zanat epskim uvodom, kao što je slučaj s britanskim Neo-prog bendom This Winter Machine i njihovom početnom ponudom 'The Man Who Never Was'. Naslovna pjesma je 4-dijelni suite koji sugerira jasno divljenje uobičajenim legendama proga, kao i novijim avanturistima koji kombiniraju sažeto glazbeno umijeće, emotivne melodije, efektni lirski sadržaj i ogromnu vokalnu isporuku koja odiše klasom i stilom. Dobro izrađen komad pruža uvid u izložene individualne talente, klavijaturist Mark Numan pokazuje snažnu sklonost klaviru (uvijek dobar znak), potentnom basistu Petera Priestlyja koji uživa u partnerstvu s bubnjarom Marcusom Murrayjem i na kraju vokalom Al Wynterom, čiji glas svakako pridonosi miksu. Gitarist Gary Jevon završava postavu albuma, ali čini se da je u međuvremenu napustio bend. Lirski, fokus je na pustoši, ozbiljnom osjećaju nepovezanosti i krize identiteta, temama koje zasigurno odražavaju apatični svemir u kojem danas živimo. Postoji očito dodvoravanje Rushu, iako po mom mišljenju, to ne dovodi do bilo kakvog pokušaja kloniranja zvuka mercurial Kanađana. Zapravo, Ovaj zimski stroj predlaže mekši dodir, duboko slojevit zvuk na kojem različiti instrumenti mogu pokazati svoje talente, gustu simfoniju i sažetu viziju timskog rada i izrade jakih melodijskih struktura.LADISLAV&Z.......

Un autre premier album qui présente fièrement et courageusement son art avec une introduction épique, comme c’est le cas avec le groupe néo-prog britannique This Winter Machine et leur offre initiale « The Man Who Never Was ». La chanson-titre est une suite de 4 pièces qui suggère une admiration claire pour les légendes habituelles du prog, ainsi que pour les nouveaux aventuriers qui combinent des compétences musicales concises, des mélodies émotionnelles, un contenu lyrique efficace et une énorme prestation vocale qui respire la classe et le style. Une pièce bien conçue donne un aperçu des talents individuels exposés, le claviériste Mark Numan montre une forte préférence pour le piano (toujours un bon signe), le puissant bassiste de Peter Priestly qui aime s’associer avec le batteur Marcus Murray et enfin le chanteur Al Wynter, dont la voix contribue certainement au mélange. Le guitariste Gary Jevon est en train de terminer la formation de l’album, mais il semble qu’il ait quitté le groupe entre-temps. Lyriquement, l’accent est mis sur la désolation, un sérieux sentiment de déconnexion et de crise d’identité, des thèmes qui reflètent sûrement l’univers apathique dans lequel nous vivons aujourd’hui. Il y a une adulation évidente pour Rush, bien qu’à mon avis, cela ne mène à aucune tentative de cloner le son des Canadiens mercuriels. En fait, Cette machine d’hiver propose une touche plus douce, un son profondément stratifié sur lequel différents instruments peuvent montrer leurs talents, une symphonie dense et une vision concise du travail d’équipe et de la création de structures mélodiques fortes.
