And also, if anyone noticed, Lord Voldemort's Avada Kedavra (the killing curse) coming from his wand is green the same as the changling queen's magic. If you have read ALL of the Harry Potter books you would know that Voldemort over looked the power of love when Harry's mother gave her life for him when Voldemort wanted to kill Harry. Voldemort's power was destroyed when he tried to kill Harry. Same with the changling queen. The changling queen over looks the power of princess Cadenze and Shining Armor's love and is blasted away from Canterlot.

I think a while back (when I had my old channel) I watched this video and commented about how Voldemort (You Know Who/He Who Must Not Be Named) is almost completely parallel to Queen Chrysalis and how they both don't understand how powerful love is or how it's power works. Also, Queen Chrysalis's magic happens to be green and (coincidentally) Voldemort's signature spell (the Avada Kardva [the killing curse]) just so happens to be green as well (meaning the laser light thing that comes out a wand when you perform a spell like the disarming spell or the killing curse) and Queen Chysalis and Voldemort both have their own supporters and followers (Queen Chysalis's being the changelings and Voldemort's being the Deatheaters). And watch the rest of the movies and read the books (they're good!).

Actually phoenixes have been part of mythology for a long time, but were brought to the public with Harry Potter, as many people didn't know about this mythological creature. MLP did not copy off of HP for the phoenix part, they took the creature from the mythology. They weren't created with Harry Potter.

If someone hasn't, I'll get writing on that fanfic ^^ It actually seems like a pretty cool concept. After all, we never saw how the Celestia's School of Gifted Unicorns actually went down because Twilight never truly became a student. When she was enrolling and taking her enterance exam, Princess Celestia taught her personally. What if the factions in HP existed in the unicorn school too? Like different categories for unicorns with different talents (ie; like Rarity's finding gems, and Trixie's is to make illusions basically magic shows) It's not too difficult to imagine, because, like stated in Testing Testing 123, every pony learns differently, so wouldn't they be separated based on what the learn and what their talents are?

Dose this not sound like mlp because to me it sounds exactly like Discord.
It even says his name. Spreading enmity is definitely Discord's specialty. Also, like in mlp, it says that it can only be fought by friendship and trust... cough cough the cough elements cpugh cough. anyway I believe when making season 2 episodes 1 and 2, the designers probably used this passage for inspiration.

Fawkes/the Owl (not gonna try to spell his name): that's how birds fight ground-based opponents

Fawkes/Philomena: they're both phoenixes; that's almost like saying Spike correlates to Norbert because they're both young dragons.

Wand duel/Celestia vs Chrysalis: that effect is something of a trope; AnimatedJames used it in Tails vs Twilight, and it was similar to part of the battle between Twilight & Tirek (the difference in both cases being that neither side got the upper hand/hoof and the energy backlash simply exploded).

I haven’t read the books but I have seen the movies. And I LOVE Harry Potter. The way they introduce magic is the most epic and most creative ever. Thumbs up to JK for bringing this awesome franchise into the world.

there is a fanfiction called "The Seventh Element" and it has thestrals, which are ponies with dragon wings from the harry potter series. It's actually really good, and i'm re-reading it now

It is true that MLP sometimes takes elements from HP, Celestia's pet pheonix scene, ect. and even references it sometimes for fun, like in Discord's "Glass of Water" song, however I don't thik it goes much further than that.

The point they were trying to make with "Read It Or Weep" was, obviously, not to knock a book (or reading books in general, in Rainbow Dash's case) without trying it first. This was just more clearly illustrated by subtly referencing to the Harry Potter books, since they are part of a mainstream series that a lot of people are familiar with. I know it's hard to remember HP before the movies, when the books were just coming out, but I recall it. I was a kid myself back then, and it seemed like people were either reading HP and liking it, or they were like "no way, I'm not reading that, only dorks read that" without even trying to read them. I was part of the latter; I think mainly cause the cover art of the books seemed so cartoonish, I thought the books must be stupid. But then someone finally convinced me to give it a try, and (like Rainbow Dash and the Daring Doo books) I suddenly realized the HP books were actually pretty good and were something that I liked. Obviously many people had similar experiences with it too, and eventually it became quite popular.

So yeah, anyways, this was the reason for the similarities (in Read it or Weep, in any case, especially the A.K.Yearling vs J.K.Rowling name similarity). Just helped them get the point of the episode across better by likening the pony's mainstream novel to something that we were more familiar with.

Most of these parallels are due to both MLP and Harry Potter being heavily rooted in Greek Mythology and not necessarily correlate to each other.  These tropes are too long established.  Yes we see the correlation, but in today's literature and theater, the connections are much deeper than they seem.

found some similarities between harry potter and mlp remember in order of phoenix Harry's friends are captured by the death eaters in exchange for the prophecy, in twilights kingdom her friends are captured in bubbles by tirek in exchange for her magic. don't miss this James and lily were betrayed by their friend wormtail, and starlights villagers were betrayed by their friend starlight or you could say the main six were betrayed by their friend discord when he pretended to be grogar. also, everyone thought Sirius black was responsible for James and lilys death but they were wrong, the school thought the student six were responsible for the magic disappearing but it was cozy glow. plus Sirius black was set free by the nicest person in the harry potter we know Harry and Hermione, and the student six were set free by the nicest known thing the tree of harmony ( in school raze ). also, Hermione was willing to be killed if Sirius wanted to kill Harry, also discord willingly took the attack on Fluttershy on himself. harry thought snape was bad but he turned out to be good in the end, the main five thought discord was still not reformed but in the end he turned out to be reformed. harry's parents sacrificed themselves to protect him, Celestia sacrificed her sister to protect her kingdom or you know the sacrifice discord made for Fluttershy. also the evil dragon that chased harry seemed a lot like the dragon that chased spike. also Draco had always been a bully to harry, the bully gang that bully rainbow dash has always been a bully to her. Draco was made a good guy in the end ( at least in the books ) and the bully gang that bully rainbow dash was made good too at the end of an episode. ( spoiler alert this is from the harry potter and the cursed child )
Harry's son messed up when he used time travel, starlight messed up when she used time travel. please tell if I missed anything

For those saying that the "Phoenix" idea is a little forced, let me explain:
Dumbledore and Celestia both explain it in similar matters. Harry doesn't know what to do, and neither does Fluttershy. But here's the thing: Celestia is basically the God of Equestria. Celestia's school of gifted unicorns. Then, there is Dumbledore, the Headmaster of Hogwarts. Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry. See where I am getting at?

The first book titled the quest for the sapphire stone is also a good reference to philosopher's Stone. And moving away from MLP for a moment, I find more Harry Potter references and winx club. I mean come on, girl looses parents at a young age, girl discovers she has magic powers and goes to a magic school, girl gets tricked by imposter to go to her enemies and do their bidding without a choice in the matter, girl defeats The guy who was responsible for the loss of her parents... it's basically a fairy version of Harry Potter with the main character being a teenage girl. Any winx club fan over here? Any thoughts?

The only slight reference to Harry Potter in the show that I notice is in the season four episode, “Three’s a crowd”. During the song, “A little Glass Of Water”, discord sings the line, “A magic spell to cure disease” and they are all shown in different house robes. Gryffindor, Ravenclaw and Slytherin respectively. Twilight is also wearing Harry Potter glasses. In the background, there is a castle similar to the Hogwarts Castle. Or I’m just a nerd. Yeah, that’s definitely it.

The potion in princess twilight sparkle reminded me of the pensieve. U can go into a memory as an observer, but the ppl in the memory can't see or hear you. Also, in magical mystery cure, when twilight goes to that place where celestia shows up, and twi becomes an alicorn, it reminded me so much of when Harry kinda-sorta-not really dies, and dumbledore comes.

If you had read the books then you’d probably have got the biggest similarity: Voldemort couldn’t kill Harry because he didn’t understand love; mlp villains always get blasted by rainbows because they don’t understand the magic of friendship.

In the fourth story, goblet of fire, Harry Potter has to go through a maze and find a way to get the trophy. In the mlp episodes when we first see discord, he separates the mane 6 in a maze and challenges them to get out. The mane 6, taking away twilight, end up caught in a spell. The same happens to the other competitors in the potter movie in the maze.
I only know that one though so hopefully you might notice more. 😄

Actually, a beam versus beam strength contest is hardly limited to Harry Potter. In fact, I'm sure it's hardly the first time that play has been used in manga/books, movies. comics or anime/cartoons. It's practically a trope unto itself. Other than that, there does seem to be a number of parallels. It seems odd though that while Harry loved to go to school, Twilight is terrified of the prospect of being sent back there. There's also no reason to believe her parents did love her as much as any other pony. So the analogy falls flat there.

You know I thought the very same thing when I started watching MLP: FIM. That there was a lot of references from the Harry Potter series. Nice video.
I love Harry Potter very much. And I'm liking MLP too. So much that I'm thinking of making a crossover series myself. I've already given it a title.
I would call the series "The Hogwart Harmons". The first story would be called "The Hogwart Harmons & The Elements of Harmony". And the stories would be set on a group of 6 students at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry under the indefinite control of the ponies of Equestria, with the main character being an autistic, Muggle-born wizard.

The "gauntlet of fire" in the dragon lands episode is a reference to Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, in which the participants have to pass challenges to get to the trophy at the end

I don't think a lot of magic stories are inspired from Harry Potter. I think Harry Potter is inspired by the same mythological creatures and magical worlds that the other stories get they inspiration from.

And... I was thinking... What if Philamena was a... Titan!?? When she transforms herself, it's looks a lot like the transformations in SNK! And there is a titan that becomes like a bird at the end of SNK... 🤔

I'd think that Having all wizards be unicorns would be segregational, and not at all what dumbledore or Tia would've wanted. Maybe, it could be a parallel equestria where a unicorns making would be more subdued, like still using weaker levitation and possible short distance teleportation. Pegasi could hold Wanda with their wings and earth ponies use their mouths.

Let's start with my thoughts on each scene.
1. That is definitely the case
2. While there are two birds that save the hero of the story after they fall, they are both different birds with a different bad guy who used different attacks.
3. They are both pheonixes. In a magical universe. So what if they both do the same thing? They're literally the same animal.
4. Every magical show with any magic at all does this. HP and MLP aren't special.

Yes there's a parallel here but you must know it's simply the case of "A hero with a thousand faces" as well. In some cases same situation same outcome but different characters.

Ending of order of the Phoenix is probably why the concept of FiM came out and the redemption of Nightmare Rarity is very similar to Harry's fight against Voldemort inside his mind in that film

Tirek looks so similar to the creature who saved Harry Potter in the 1st movie ‘Harry Potter and the philosophers stone’. Both are centaurs.

And to put another reference to Harry Potter books Princess Celestia is extremely similar to Professor Dumbledore. Both are the most powerful characters in their universes and they a lot of times hid valuable information about the villains the main characters are up against and just let them learn from it. They're basically just like trolls they know more than they're giving to the main characters. And I have an idea of a Death Battle how about Princess Celestia vs Professor Dumbledore? I think that would be a battle of the century literary.

I think that twilight was almost "modeled" after Harry, seeing as he is the chosen one and Twi seems to be an equivalent. also, Celestia is similar to Dumbeldor. (sorry, don't know how to spell it) so it would make sense that she has a phenix. Also, I like to think it also it's a reference to how people in this show are "reborn" now, I know I'm ahead of this based on the date it was posted.... I think it hints at Luna being "reborn" and now Starlight and Sunset.

Or the plot of MLP and HP are similar. Harry Potter is a wizard who uses magic, and Twilight Sparkle is a unicorn who uses magic. (All ponies have magic within them, but unicorns are known for using it.) Both Harry and Twilight discover that they are great magic users. And with the help of their friends, they defeat several enemies.

The Celestia vs Chrysalis isn't really a good parallel to make since it'd be more equivalent to Dumbledore vs Voldemort than Harry vs Voldemort. Celestia was the elder(though still visibly young) teacher while Twilight is the student.

Hmm, while I thought you brought up some interesting paralell scenes, which I wouldn't be at all surprised if there was something intentional here by the mlp staff, I wouldn't say there's that much of a striking paralell between the series. It's more like visually referencing the harry potter movies and, of course, the whole phoenix episode has a lot of probably very intentional paralells, not to mention the fact that princess celestia is, of course, in many ways quite a similar character as dumbledore. But, well, this all isn't so strange as mlp fim has quite some references to other shows in it, and, well, what is more well known than Harry Potter? Not so strange to refernce it, ey. There is a powerful and well known wizard/princess living in a castle with a pet pheonix. He/she has a student at their school possessing extreme magical abilities, who has a friend living in a house by the forest among adorable and occasionally seemingly dangerous creatures.

Philomena and Fawkes are just both pheonixes, but that's where the similarities end. The pheonix is from greek mythology, not just something J.K Rowling made up. So its not really a reference to Harry Potter.

I didn't notice when I first saw the episode but when Fluttershy gallops to catch the phoenix, the sound effect used is for a galloping horse with a saddle. You can hear the metal parts clinking as she runs. Is it on purpose? or do they not have stock sound for an unsaddled horse?

You didn't mention the most obvious one. Starswirl the Bearded created the amniomorphic spell, amnio meaning bowl and morphic meaning to shape. Hence it was a spell for making pottery, therefore Starswirl is a Hairy Potter!

Because humans dont have horns, we need wands to use magic. I wonder if a earth-pony or a pegasus had some kind of wand would they be able to use magic like a unicorn, maybe less powerful and difficult to use but it would be interesting if that could work.

i think it was just a coincidence, both are vary well written and shot shows, great minds think alike as they say. I doubt they took inspiration from HP especially the Phoenix thing, Thats just common lore for them. Loads of movies and shows use phoenix's in exactly the same way.

Personally I think there are a lot of parallels between mlp and the dragon ball series. Primarily the battle against Tirek and battle of the gods. When you watch Twilght fight Tirek it looks like something out of a dragon ball fight, minus the filler. In battle of the gods Goku has to take in the power of the other Sayins to be able to fight the villain, now just think Sayin=Princess and Twilight=Goku.

Plus, u forgot that the evil dragon looks REMARKABLY like the Hungarian Horntail in The Goblet of Fire movie.

Goblet of fire is the fourth installment in the Harry Potter series. If you know the scene where Harry battles Voldemort, you have seen the first four movies.

The characters from deffrend fandoms(harry potter and mlp) had the same reaction to the phoenix turn into ashes and 3.the phoenix rise from the ashes (or at least that is what i think sawtooth meant by this two clips)

Both, Harry Potter and MLP, are using typical clishees. Those things were used before Harry Potter and MLP and they will be used again!

You don't get the story quiet good from the movies, the first, second and maybe third are ok, but the forth and specially 5, 6, 7.1 and 7.2 have some mayor mistakes and lack explanations given in the book.

All of them. Parallels do not stop. To be fair though they do tend to stick to ideas people actually like. Discord based on Q from star trek for example.

That pheonix parallel is just part of the myth. Pheonixs burst into flame when it is time for them to die and are reborn from the ashes.

Meh. For a second there I thought maybe Hasbro managed to get a bunch of Harry Potter under my radar, but these particular parallels aren't very convincing. Like you said, Daring Do is an Indiana Jones reference, A.K. Yearling is a J.K Rowling reference, but none of these other scenes seemed like they were referencing Harry Potter to me.

As for the Phoenix, burning up and being reborn from the ashes is kind of what Phoenixes do. It's what they're known for, and that legend has existed for a long, long time. I mean, just look at the Wikipedia page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phoenix_%28mythology%29 Any show which includes Phoenixes will likely include a scene where they burn up and are reborn, and if the characters aren't aware of this the scene you showed will be the inevitable result.

And as for the power beam thing, that's in basically every fighting anime ever. Nothing about that is unique to Harry Potter.

Maybe there are more parallels, but the ones you showed in this video aren't very convincing.

I've always wondered why neither Twi or Fluttershy knew what a phoenix is.

I was actually thinking of it storing the CMC is a protagonist and having it not being purely unicorn because that's just kinda silly to me. Instead, witches use a diffrent kind of magic, the kind from the heart and mind, not horn. Oh yes, unicorns San use their horns, but limatedly (short distance teleportation, levitation, stuff like that) and is very hard to use witch magic with a horn, which is why everyone wound need a wand

In it he says "a magic spell to cure disease" and on the screen it shows twilight dressed as Harry, Cadence dressed in a raven law cape, and discord in a slytheren cape with a wig that looks like malfoys. OK, i have to agree, they do have some similarities. But my opinion about spike being saved by owlowiscious is that there are MANY more shows and movies that have this cliche' so it can't JUST be a Harry Potter reference or inspiration, although it could.

I don't know if this counts as a parallel; it's probably more of a shared trope. But I was sure you would talk about the relationship between Celestia and Twilight, and compare it to the relationship between Dumbledore and Harry. It may be only a similarity based on what you'd expect from a 'chosen one' and their mentor, but something about how friendly they are, how much the student looks up to and wishes to please the teacher, and even how highly the teacher is regarded in their society makes me link those two in my mind very strongly. I would never put Obiwan and Luke in the same category; while they are technically the same trope, the chemistry between them is too different.
I also have some thoughts about how Severus Snape and Princess Luna share some qualities (though not nearly as many, to be clear. That parallel is much shakier.)

Well, in the Discords Song ‚A Glass of Water‘ you can also see Discord, Twilight and Cadence dressed as Hogwarts Students. Discord was Draco (I guess), Twilight was Harry Potter (just Look at her glasses) and Cadence came from Ravenclaw.

I think the writers are just fans of Rowling's work. I don't think they would take it that far to introduce a crossover with ponies to fill roles. I think the most they would do is throw in references maybe even a BG pony, just for fun.

Well, there is a crossover in the comic books, in the micro series, Celestia's comic when the food came to life, there was Ron, Harry, and hermionie ponies under a table. And there are other crossovers in the comic books as well.

I remember that part. Ugh its been to long since i watched Harry Potter.

Something i found in common is that voldemort causes chaos in the harry potter world when he returns and when discord returns he does the same thing all throughout ponyville and that chaos spreads to some of canterlot!!!!

In EG Rainbow Rocks, Twilight and Spike take the portal to Canterlot High on a run.
In Harry Potter and Philosopher's Stone, Harry and Ron take the barrier to Platform 9 3/4 on a run.


In EG Rainbow Rocks, the combined magic of friendship(with Sunset) takes the form of a Golden Snitch.

It was all over. Lord Voldemort, the wizard who had tormented Harry Potter for years, had finally been defeated. All that was left to do was to clean up Hogwarts and properly bury the dead. Harry Potter would be known as the most heroic wizard of his generation, an unprecedented achievement for someone so young.

Harry looked around at the wreckage around him. The windows of the Great Hall had been shattered, and broken glass lay all over the floor. Rubble from the destroyed walls was interspersed amongst the dead bodies and their grieving families. Harry turned to his friend Ron’s dead brother, Fred, and saw Mrs. Weasley standing vigil over the corpse, tears streaming down her face. Mr. Weasley and the other children were there as well, looking shocked, as if they were not sure what was happening.

Hermione stood by Harry’s side and noticed Harry staring at the Weasley family.

“Go over there,” she said.

“What?” Harry asked, having been broken out of a trance.

“Harry, I shouldn’t have to tell you this, but you’re practically family. Go be with them.”

“Hermione, I can’t do that,” Harry said.

“Why not?” Hermione asked.

“It would seem…well, wrong.” Hermione rubbed Harry on the shoulder.

“Hey,” Harry said, “do you know where Ron is?”

“I’m not sure,” Hermione said. “He disappeared after you gave up the Elder Wand.”

“We should look for him,” Harry said. “He needs to be with his family.”

“Where could he have gone?” Hermione asked. Harry racked his brain, trying to think. Where would he be right now, if he were Ron Weasley? Knowing his friend’s temperament, he was probably angry right now, but that didn’t exactly help narrow it down. Harry thought back to the last time they had seen him.

“Didn’t he mention something about the Deathly Hallows?” Harry asked.

“I think so,” Hermione said. “He wasn’t sure if it was right to let them go the way you did.” Harry turned his attention to the Hallows. He had returned the Elder Wand to Professor Dumbledore’s tomb so that it wouldn’t be used again. Harry didn’t know if Ron wanted anything to do with the Elder Wand; he had been a bit confused about why Harry would give it up. Harry, of course, still had the Invisibility Cloak. That only left the Resurrection Stone.

“I know where he is,” Harry said.

“Really?” Hermione asked. “How can you be so sure?”

“I think he’s after the Stone. He wants to see his brother again, I’m sure of it. It’s what I’d be looking for if I had just lost someone in my family.”

“Well, let’s go, then,” Hermione said.



“Ron!” Harry and Hermione cried, hoping to find their friend. They were wandering in the Forbidden Forest, trying to get the attention of their friend. Hermione groaned when there was no reply for what seemed like the thousandth time.

“How are we ever going to find him?” Hermione asked. “The forest is huge.” Harry ignored her and continued to call for his friend. They eventually heard what sounded like a human voice in the distance and decided to follow it. As they approached, they began to hear what the voice was saying.

“…where’s your damn friend?” the voice was saying.

“Like I’m really going to tell you,” another voice replied.

“It’s Ron!” Hermione whispered. Harry and Hermione followed the voices urgently.

“If you can’t tell me where Potter is, I’ll make you suffer until you start to cooperate! Crucio!” Ron’s screams of pain made Harry and Hermione move ever more quickly. They assumed Ron had run into a Death Eater, and in his panic, Harry still wondered what he was doing anywhere near Hogwarts.

“Who’s there?” the Death Eater cried, hearing the noise of Harry and Hermione approaching. Harry and Hermione looked through some trees and saw the Death Eater waving his wand around frantically. Harry took aim through the leaves.

“Stupefy!” he cried. The Stunning Spell hit the Death Eater square in the chest, knocking him to the forest floor and throwing his mask off of his face. Harry and Hermione rushed into the clearing where he and Ron were and saw Ron slowly getting up from the forest floor.

“Are you all right?” Hermione asked, helping Ron up and giving him a hug and a kiss on the cheek.

“I’m fine, Hermione,” Ron said. “Just a little bump-in with one of Voldie’s cronies. Nothing to be worried about.”

“He could have killed you,” Harry said.

“It was your blood he was after,” Ron said, “not mine.”

“What are you doing out here?” Hermione asked. “Harry thinks you’re looking for the Stone.”

“Well…” Ron said. “I was. Pretty hopeless, huh? I mean, I have no idea where you dropped it. I tried summoning it but apparently the Hallows are charmed so you can’t do that.”

“Look, Ron,” Harry said. “I know you’re grieving right now, but finding the Stone isn’t going to bring Fred back. I only saw the shells of my family when I used it.”

“You used it?” Ron asked. “What did you see?”

“Well…they talked to me and encouraged me to make the sacrifice,” Harry said. “They disappeared shortly after that. Really, Ron, you’re cheating yourself if you think the Stone’s going to bring your brother back.”

“I know, Harry. It’s just…I want to see him one last time, to say goodbye.” Ron betrayed a single tear that told Harry and Hermione just how much he was hurting. Hermione gave Ron another hug and rubbed his back.

“You won’t believe what I found while I was looking around out here. Do you see those sparks in the sky?” Harry and Hermione looked up and saw some red sparks hovering over the forest canopy.

“Yeah, that’s how that bloke found me,” Ron said. “That was thick of me. But I needed to mark it so I could find it again.”

“What is it?” Hermione asked.

“I’ll show you,” Ron said. He led the way through the trees towards the sparks he had cast. Harry and Hermione struggled to follow through the thick roots. Harry tore through his jeans getting caught on a particularly thick bramble, but he was used to the forest’s thick overgrowth. Finally, the three wizards reached the clearing and saw what Ron had found important enough to mark.

“A Vanishing Cabinet?” Hermione asked.

“You bet!” Ron said. “No idea what it’s doing here. I guess one of the Death Eaters brought it here; this is where they were gathered, right, Harry?”

“Yeah,” Harry said.

“Anyway,” Ron continued, “I have no idea where this one leads, but I was too busy looking for the Stone to investigate, so that’s why I marked it. And then that idiot caught me off guard and started demanding to know where you were, Harry. I guess some of those blokes are still lurking around out here.”

“Well, Ron, I wouldn’t mess with a Vanishing Cabinet if I were you,” Hermione said. “You remember what happened to Montague when he got stuck in one.”

“I know, but I don’t think this one is broken,” Ron said. “It looks like it could lead somewhere.”

“I don’t want to take that chance,” Hermione said.

“Come on, Hermione, where’s your sense of adventure?” Ron asked. Harry presumed he was desperate for some kind of distraction.

“Ron,” Hermione said in an attempt to reason with him, “don’t you think it’s a bit odd that a Vanishing Cabinet would turn up in the middle of the Forbidden Forest? We don’t even know why it’s here or where it could lead. I would just leave it alone if I were you.” Suddenly a spell whizzed past Hermione, and the three wizards turned immediately towards the source. They saw another Death Eater running towards them through the clearing.

“Great!” Harry said. “Now what do we do?”

“Get into the cabinet!” Ron said. “It might take us somewhere we can Apparate.” Harry and Hermione didn’t bother to argue as they followed Ron into the cabinet and shut it. As the door closed, however, the Death Eater cast a spell that destroyed it.

The three wizards suddenly felt a bizarre sensation as they were pulled into a portal that had appeared where the cabinet had been. Harry tried to scream but his voice made no sound. He couldn’t see through the void where which they were falling through, either.

Harry had no idea which way was up as he tumbled through the darkness. This was far more terrifying and nauseating than Apparition, as Harry had no idea where he’d be teleported to. Suddenly, a sound ripped through the air and Harry felt his body begin to stretch out most unnaturally, as if it was simultaneously tearing through the air and being crushed, somehow. The sensation was most uncomfortable, but it ended briefly. Then, after more falling, a dim light suddenly appeared and the four wizards landed in the middle of a forest.

Harry awoke after some period of time and saw his friends and, to his surprise, the Death Eater, now unmasked, lying unconscious on the ground. His vision was blurry, though, as his glasses had fallen off of him. Harry took his wand out of the pocket of his robe and used the Summoning Charm to return his glasses to his hand. When he put them on and took a look around, though, he was shocked at what he saw.

They were certainly in a forest, but it was unlike any forest Harry had ever seen. This forest was dark yet colorful, as if Harry had just been flung into an animated cartoon. Harry looked at his hand and yelled in surprise when he saw that his hand looked like it had been hand-drawn and painted. What the hell happened? he thought.

Harry revived his friends, whose appearance had changed drastically just as Harry’s hand had. As they came to, they stared at their environment and at each other in shock.

“Harry, what’s going on?” Hermione asked. “Why do we look like we belong in a Looney Tunes short?”

“What the hell are Looney Tunes?” Ron asked. “And why does everything look like a painting?”

“I don’t know,” Harry said. “It must have something to do with the Vanishing Cabinet acting up. What do we remember about what happened?”

“Well,” Hermione said, “we entered the cabinet, and then that Death Eater destroyed it while we were in it. After that…I think we were sucked into a portal, but I don’t remember anything else. How about you, Ron?”

“Beats me,” Ron said. “I just want to know where the hell we are.”

“Maybe it doesn’t matter,” Harry said. “We could just try to Apparate somewhere and see if that works.”

“Brilliant,” Hermione said. “Take my hand, you two.” Harry and Ron obliged, and Hermione concentrated on Diagon Alley. When she spun, however, all that resulted was that the three of them toppled to the ground, as if they had felled their Apparition test all over again.

“We must be out of range,” Hermione said, “and since we have no idea where we are, I can’t pick a closer target.”

“Even if you could,” Ron said, “how do you explain the scenery? How do you explain how we look?”

“Honestly, Ron, I have no idea,” Hermione said, “and it’s starting to freak me out.”

“No, Hermione,” Harry said, “the last thing we need to do is panic. Let’s start with what we know. Didn’t that Death Eater get sucked in, too?” The three of them looked at the Death Eater still lying on the ground and identified him as Rowle.

“What was he still doing in the forest, anyway?” Ron asked.

“Apparently looking for me,” Harry said. “I expect the others will have to deal with some rogue Death Eaters before all is said and done.”

“Well, how does that explain our situation?” Ron asked.

“It doesn’t,” Hermione said. “None of this makes any sense.”

“Well,” Harry suggested, “perhaps we should just look around. We might be able to find somebody who lives around here to help us.”

“Harry,” Ron said, “we’re in the middle of a forest. I doubt we’ll find anyone to help us.”

“You got any better ideas?” Harry asked. Ron shook his head.

“Lead the way,” he said. Harry, Ron, and Hermione started trekking through the forest, and even if they knew where they had been they had no idea how to return to it. The three were hopelessly lost and confused.

After a few hours of endlessly walking around, just as the three wizards were about to give up hope for any kind of explanation, they discovered a hut in the middle of a twisted group of trees. Actually, the hut looked like it was actually a hollowed-out tree with a door, and the harsh surroundings reminded Harry of the house of Gaunt.

“Should we…go inside?” Hermione asked.

“What else are we going to do?” Harry asked. The three wizards approached the entrance to the tree and knocked on the door. For a moment, there was no reply, but then they heard shuffling from within the tree and the door opened.

Nothing could have prepared them for what they saw.

Standing in the entrance was none other than a cartoon zebra with a mohawk wearing gold bands around her neck and front hooves and also gold earrings. The zebra whinnied in surprise and lunged at them, fearing them to be wicked creatures. Ron was tackled to the ground by the zebra, but Hermione whipped out her wand and knocked the zebra off of Ron with a spell. The zebra tried to attack again, but Harry levitated her into the air to keep her from moving. At that moment, the zebra began, to the amazement of the wizards, to talk.

“Of all the creatures I have run into,” she said, “what in Equestria are you?”

“Bloody hell, I’ve got to be dreaming…” Ron said. Hermione nearly fainted, but Harry held his resolve. Stranger things had happened to him, after all.

“Eek!” the zebra exclaimed, responding to Ron’s quip. “You can speak?”

“Yes, we talk,” Harry said. “My name is Harry Potter, and this is Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. We’re students from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.”

“You are wizards? How bizarre,” the zebra said. “Did you study magic in this school afar?”

“Does she really have to speak in rhymes?” Ron muttered.

“Um…yes,” Hermione said, “we study magic.”

“I’d like to learn about you more, but first, could you set me down on the forest floor?”

“You have to promise not to attack my friend,” Harry said.

“I will bring the fighting’s end. I swear I will not harm your friend.”

“Okay,” Harry said, and he set the zebra down on the ground. She remained still as promised, deciding not to attack for her own sake, as she knew she was overpowered.

“When it comes to your magic, forgive my scorn, but you sport no horn,” the zebra said. “Are you not unicorns?”

“What do unicorns have to do with it?” Ron asked.

“You mean you don’t know? Oh, how tragic,” the zebra declared. “Only unicorns are practiced in magic.”

“Well…not where we’re from,” Harry said. “Where we’re from, humans study magic.”

“Humans…? Is that what you’re called? If this is so, then I am appalled.”

“Well, yes, we are called humans.” Hermione said. “And you’re a zebra…right?”

“Oh, let the royal horns sound! We’ve finally found some common ground!” the zebra declared. Ron stared at her in disbelief. “I’m glad at least we’ve found a norm, for indeed I am a zebra in form.”

“That last one was a stretch,” Ron whispered.

“Um…” Hermione said. “Do you have a name?”

“I did not introduce myself? How lame! Yes, Zecora is my name.”

“Well, Zecora,” Hermione asked, “could you care to tell us where we are?”

“You are in the kingdom of Princess Celestia, the beautiful land of Equestria!” The three wizards stared at Zecora in stunned silence.

“Never heard of it,” Ron finally said.

“Maybe you could explain the land of Equestria to us,” Harry suggested.

“Hold on,” Ron said. “Can we get someone else to do it?”

“Why?” Hermione asked.

“No offense, Zecora, but the rhyming is a bit confusing.”

“I apologize for the confusion, but rhyming and speech for me is a fusion. Now, step into my hut. I will tell you what is what,” Zecora said with a grin. Ron groaned and Zecora chuckled as the three wizards followed her into the hut. They saw tribal masks adorning the walls, and the center of the room contained a large cauldron.

“You brew potions?” Hermione asked in awe.

“Yes, complex brews are what I do,” Zecora said.

“Slant rhyme,” Ron coughed.

“Never mind, Ron,” Harry said. “It’s just that we brew potions where we’re from, too.”

“And where exactly is that place, from which comes your human race?” Zecora asked.

“Well, we go to school at Hogwarts,” Harry said, “but we’re from a planet called Earth.”

“Earth…? You mean like the name of the soil upon which we stand?” Zecora asked.

“You’ve heard of it?” Hermione asked.

“I did not know it as a name for the land,” Zecora said.

“Well…it is,” Hermione said. “But on Earth, zebras…well, they’re not sentient beings.”

“What?” Zecora asked. “How can this be true?”

“Zebras just don’t talk like you,” Ron said, eager to finish her rhyme for her.

“Knock it off, Ron,” Hermione said. “Yes, and unicorns, though they contain powerful magical properties, don’t themselves practice magic. Only witches and wizards are capable of that.”

“Please forgive me for being crude. What are you humans, if I’m not being rude?” Zecora asked.

“Well…it’s hard to explain if you’ve never heard of them before,” Hermione said.

“Just consider us sentient beings like you,” Harry intervened.

“I suppose I must, to gain your trust,” Zecora said.

“Trust?” Hermione asked. “We trust you already, as much as we can in our situation.”

“Oh, for me to say this is a must. One must never blindly trust.” Ron rolled his eyes. “Tell me, and let your words be true. What is the situation that has befallen you?”

“Well, Zecora, it’s hard to explain,” Hermione said. “The easiest way to understand it is that a portal opened up in our world and teleported us into yours. And we don’t normally look like this. We’re not so, um…colorful.”

“I’m afraid I do not follow,” Zecora said, “but in this confusion I will not wallow. Tell me what you want to know, and Zecora will surely show.”

“Okay…” Harry said. “What kinds of creatures live in Equestria?”

“In Equestria, there are bands of ponies living on these lands,” Zecora said. “Unicorns, pegasi, and Earth are the various types of birth. Though these ponies are commonly at hand, the rare alicorns rule this land. We ponies are peaceful, but don’t be foaled. There are wicked creatures whose plights have been told. Manticores, Hydras, and minotaurs abound, and danger lurks where they are found. Should you choose to stay, beware! Avoid these creatures if about your lives you care.”

“Impressive,” Ron said, now legitimately admiring Zecora’s adept skills of rhyming.

“So, Zecora,” Hermione asked, “do you have any idea how we could get back to where we’re from?”

“You came through a portal, I hear. Tell me, did the portal disappear?”

“We…didn’t really look,” Harry said, “but I think we would have noticed it if it was here.”

“If the portal’s door has closed away, then it is here that you must stay. You will be safe if you heed my call, and avoid the dangerous creatures all.”

“Well, the funny thing is,” Hermione said, “manticores are creatures where we’re from, and Hydras and minotaurs are mentioned in some of our mythology. Our worlds seem to have a lot more in common than I thought.”

“Indeed,” Zecora said. “Since you are here, why don’t I lead you to a town of ponies with noble deeds? Ponyville is the name of the town, and one pony knows the princess who bears the crown. If you will follow me tonight, I will introduce you to Twilight. Of magic she is of finest skill; she will help you, if meet her you will.”

“That sounds wonderful!” Hermione said. “Can you take us there now?”

“I will lead you there, but stay in my sight. The Everfree Forest is dangerous at night.”

“Thank you so much!” Hermione said. “Well, Harry, Ron, shall we get going?”

“I suppose we’ll have to,” Ron said.

“Okay then,” Harry said. “Lead the way, Zecora.”



Rowle finally came to long after Harry, Ron, and Hermione had left. He looked around the clearing and was shocked to find how different the land looked to him. He jumped when he saw his own hand had also changed appearance quite dramatically. Rowle looked up at the sky, but the portal opened by the destroyed Vanishing Cabinet had long since closed in on itself.

Damn it, he thought, where the hell am I? Suddenly, out of nowhere, a blue blur tackled him back to the ground and tried to pin him down. Rowle through the pony off of his body, but the pony recovered quickly and struck him down again. Rowle made to push him aside again, but the pony interrupted.

“I can do this all night, buddy,” she said, and Rowle was stunned that the pony was able to talk, so he conceded defeat.

“Now, what the hay are you?” the pony asked. Rowle was still stunned by the pony’s ability to talk, so he didn’t answer.

“Can you talk?” the pony demanded.

“Yes, I can talk,” Rowle growled.

“Then what are you?” the pony asked, shoving him for good measure.

“My name is Thorfinn Rowle,” the wizard said, “now will you get off me?”

“I don’t think so…” the pony said. “I don’t like the looks of you. What are you doing in Equestria?”

“Is that what this place is called?” Rowle asked. “Let’s just say I dropped in.”

“That explains nothing,” the pony said. “I want to know where you’re from.”

“Earth,” Rowle said snidely, thinking that the pony had never heard of it.

“Like the ground?” the pony asked.

“Huh?” Rowle asked, taken aback.

“I mean, we call the ground Earth, and the ponies that live on the ground are Earth ponies, but I have a feeling you mean something else.”

“Earth’s a planet,” Rowle said.

“Planet…?” the pony wondered. “Never mind. I still don’t trust you, but it sounds like you’re not from here and you have no idea where you are. If I get off of you, will you promise not to attack me?”

“Why would I do that?” Rowle asked.

“I’ve never seen anything like you before. I’ve gotta assume the worst.”

“Well, to be fair,” Rowle said, “I have no idea what you are either.”

“I’m a pegasus,” the pony said, “and my name is Rainbow Dash.”

“That’s an odd name,” Rowle said.

“Not as odd as Thorfinn. I mean, really?”

“Can it, Rainbow Dash,” Rowle said.

“Look, Thorfinn, I’ll make you a deal. If you promise not to attack me, I’ll take you back to town and have my friend Twilight Sparkle look you over. She’s like a total egghead, so if she doesn’t know what you are, then we’re flat-out stumped, but she’ll probably know what you are, at least I hope.”

“And why should I trust you?” Rowle asked. “You attacked me when I wasn’t looking.”

But anyway, I write fanfiction on a site called Wattpad a lot. and I mean, a LOT.
People tell me that one of my stories is the "best mlp fanfic they've ever read", or that it's "the best story on Wattpad".
I REALLY LOVE THIS FANFICTION IDEA. SOOOO MUCH. IT SOUNDS AMAZING. REALLY.

I would absolutely LOVE to get the story up and running eventually. And by eventually, I mean.....fairly soon. But there's one thing...since I'm so late with watching this video, I don't know if anyone has done this idea before, or anything  extremely similar or linked to it.

Is it all right if I proceed with writing it? I don't know how others will feel about this.

LOTS of movies/books/tv shows have characters being saved by someone or something or animal/pet. It's not a "parallel", it's just a cliche used many times in the past. Besides. I don't remember Fawkes in H.P. doing a lot of dodging and faking out.

Second "parallel" you have. Fawkes dies. Harry doesn't know what to do. Dumbledore says "About time too. he's been looking dreadful for days. Pity you had to see him on a burning day." And then promptly explains it's a phoenix. Whereas Celestia decides to play it out  abit before revealing to the others that Philomena is a phoenix.

And phoenix's bursting into flames isn't new. I'm well-read and there's plenty of novels out there with "parallel" scenes, and I'm sure there's another movie or tv show which shares this trope.

Also, the whole power beam thing is even in Dragon Ball, and various other anime, tv shows, and movies. Lemme guess, MLP is now parallel to Dragon Ball and those as well? rolls eyes

Number 2 and 3 are not really even close to Harry Potter. 3 is a maybe but a Phoenix can exist in any other show/movie. And number 2 with the dragon is just straight up different in general aside from a creature with scales got attacked by a creature with feathers and wings. That's it so this video was enjoyable to watch but it was kind of pointless but good job anyway!

Sorry but I don't see it. The examples you used are things done in every fantasy movie or show. They are all major cliches of the genre and not at all unique to Harry Potter. The Phoenix is a popular creature in mythology that dies and his reborn from the ashes and lots of things use them. The dragon attack in the show doesn't really look like what happened in movie (Harry tripped and Spike was backed into a corner, true both used birds but that is pretty common to fantasy to). As for the beams pushing each other back and forth, everything that has ever used magic or lasers does that at least once. I really don't see the connection other then both use cliches. With a show they are pretty likely to come up with a lot of cliches that happen at one point or another by a movie franchise (seeing as they have lots of episodes to write and cliches are something that is likely to entertain an audience if done correctly). I like Harry Potter and MLP but the connection ends at their both fantasy stories that use the cliches of that genre plus popular mythical creatures. Although I agree that it be interesting to see these worlds interact I don't agree with the conclusion that Harry Potter heavily influenced MLP any more then any other fantasy story.

Did you remember seeing a short Harry Potter scene in Three's a Crowd. When Discord was singing, he said " a magic spell to cure disease". The moment he said that line, there was a scene where Discord, Cadence and Twilight in the world of Harry Potter. With Discord as a Slytherin, Cadence as a Ravenclaw, and Twilight as a Gryffindor. Twilight was even wearing glasses like Harry Potter.
