Mystery Changeling's Identity REVEALED

All the 'errors' in the show involving mysterious alicorns ... missing wings ... appearing horns ... changing cutie marks ... etc ... what if they're not errors? What if they're Changelings like Thorax who want to be good and are disguising themselves??

I can't stop thinking about the reason that Kevin came to the wedding because of food, by that I mean, food catering in the wedding, not love, just food

I haven't finished watching yet, but it's interesting how you immediately assume this must be Cranky's friend. This changeling did sit on the side of the church for the bride's guests - a side that also included Celestia and Luna. While we know a little of Cranky's story, Matilda clearly has an interesting past on her own!

Anyway, that's my theory; now back to watching yours! I may yet be convinced 👀

i think ponyville is filled with changelings. in multiple episodes there are ponies in the crowd that appear more then once at the same time. i think the theory where star hunter is kevin makes a lot of sense, and the "cranky doodle met a changeling" bit but i cant help but think about the double and sometimes triple ponies in scenes where there are crowds, in th earlier seasons, so kevin might not have been the only changeling in ponyville at the time, but in season 9 episode 25, when all the earth ponies were fleeing to ponyville, (the bit where the pegasi blocked cloudsdale) notice that all the ponies were different. (Note that this was AFTER the changelings reformed)
im not sure whether this was just lazy animating in the early seasons or if it was intentional.

This makes alot of sense and I honestly never even noticed Star Hunter didn't have wings but I have another question. Why were Thorax and Pharynx Green and Purple when they were un-reformed changeling's while the other's were all blue? Maybe it got explained at some point and I missed it but it's been bugging me ever since i saw it.

Can we just appreciate how much time and effort they put in to his videos for us and he never fails us to entertain us. and he always makes our day or night even better keep it up

When animation errors become a canon reason for a joke character's existence, you know you've got a quality show.

Ahem Kevin has a touch darker tone to his carapace, and sharper, angular, and a bit almond shaped eyes compared to other changlelings. If/when he reformed i expect he will have theses traits as well. Keep an eye out, Sawtooth

Just some friendly advice, it never hurts to have a backup plan, so I'll throw out my second best guess as to which pony in that frame could be Kevin, just in case!

So to the far right, behind the purple-gray stallion with the white mane, there's a yellow mare with orange-y eyes and fluffly pink mane, you can't see much of her from that frame, but if you look further back you can see another yellow mare with orange-y eyes and fluffy pink mane, granted she's a SLIGHTLY paler yellow and the manestyle is a bit different, and we can't prove that the front one is also a pegasus, but it's a lot later in the show than scenes like the one in Showstoppers that feature a lot of identical background ponies due to lazy animators, so a double is kinda sus for this episode, especially since it's the only double and there's supposedly a changeling there! Do with this info what you will! This may be wrong, but it's possible Kevin chose one of these as a form not realizing the other was present

Could you please make a theory about Sunny Starscout's father?
I feel like he's a very interesting and mysterious character that might have something to do with what you've alluded to in the theory about what happened to Twilight.
There, you said that for the tribes to split up they would be too blind to just the artifacts.And I think you theorized that what if there were ponies that still remembered the true intention of Twilight's sacrifice.
And What if Sunny's dad is one of those ponies? Also, their lighthouse is full of things from ancient Equestria, magic and about the Mane 6. Aaand he had the earth pony artifact, so I have a strong feeling he's a good object to theorize about.

Those are some pretty good theories as always Sawtooth, however on some level i personally always thought the reason that Changeling was at Cranky and Matilda's wedding was that maybe the writers and animators probably put it there as some kind of joke or something,. because you know Mayor Mare was talking about all that stuff about being brought together by love and all that...but that's just my theory.

Huh. I'll admit, I never noticed Star Hunter missing his wings those two times... mostly because I never noticed Star Hunter at all since he's a background pony and, had I, I'd have probably just assumed those were animation errors.

The show DOES have a lot of them. I mean, Pinkie became a Pegasus for a few seconds during the season 5 finale

You know if Kevin was there when twilight house grew out of the ground maybe he was acting as a spy so his queen would know what was happening in the world. Just my theory.

I actually have a little bit of a mini theory regarding why no changeling ever quote unquote reformed before the wedding I don't think they could. I think something about the love blast that came from cadence, the princess of love ,fundamentally altered the changelings biology when it hit them and started the ball rolling that eventually resulted in thoraxes, well let's call it what it is coup

I wonder if that changling is actually ocellus's father? I know it's not a fact or cannon but it would make an interesting theory.

Every time I see one of these videos, I'm always left wondering if we actually spotted something the animators did on purpose or if they just messed up.

“Star Hunter was The Kevin” I’m dying! 🤣😂

It's still my headcanon that Kevin's regular changeling appearance was a total accident. That they just forgot to disguise themselves before they came in. Ponies didn't want to make a fuss at the wedding so they didn't freak out, but they avoided him and whispered to each other. Kevin though the ponies were being weird at this wedding but couldn't understand why, so he just calmly went about his attendance. Probably not realizing until shortly after Mayor Mare's speech when she referenced them and everypony was looking at him.

Still more info on Kevin, like his regular disguise is very interesting. I'll keep an eye out on my next rewatching of the series ^-^

Well I never found those cards. But that's a great find. It would be cool for him to get a small comic made on those events. Besides who knows how many other Changelings left the hive to find a better life.

I really like that theory,! Also there is kinda same problem with Sweetie Drops. She is an earth pony but in the episode “Hurricane Fluttershy” she is a Pegasus. Could that be a changeling too?

I love this kind of little details that lead to big investigations! And I love videos about it.

Now that I'm here, and sorry for the ones who are tired about it, but I'd like to talk about time travel theories. (they are my favorite ;))

I must say, the video about the forgotten timeline, going on without Starlight, Twilight and Spike who traveled to another timeline, blew my mind. I actually see no reason why the last time travel wouldn't have created a new timeline as the few previous travels did, and so being two nearly identical timelines.

Then I wondered, if the travelers ended up in a timeline that isn't theirs, tho identical, where are their alter egos from this timeline?
And then I realized... they traveled in time too!
That means from here, the timesplit turned into a loop that creates timesplits. Because these Starlight, Twilight and Spike from this new timeline that is identical to the original but isn't, also created a Chrysalis timeline, a Nightmare Moon timeline, a Discord timeline (etc) and a timeline that is identical to theirs but isn't. And in this timeline too their alter egos traveled in time and created these timelines...
So from here there's an infinity of timelines created, of each outcome we saw in the series. But there still is only one original timeline missing the time travelers...
And that's how I blew my own mind.

But more recently I thought of a solution to abort this chaos.
I think likely that great minds and sorcerers as Starlight, Twilight, Starswirl and Sunburst (and Stygian, why not) would come to talk about such a big thing and spot the problem, and organize an expedition through the timelines to do so the time travelers go back to their own timeline after the final travel. Their travel would then apply in a timeloop where the otherwise abandoned timeline was actually never abandoned, and....
And then I thought it more thoroughly and saw it actually doesn't solve the infinite loop of splits.
But hey, it's a good start!

The expedition could do so the last travel actually leads to the original timeline, to create a timeloop where the travelers were actually always here at the rainboom in the original timeline, and the new timeline that is identical but is a separate one is not created, so there is no other timeline where Starlight, Twilight and Spike traveled in time.
There, time travel mess solved! I really hope you see this very too long comment, Sawtooth.

Even after looking through the Kevin scenes multiple times, I was never able to tell which one he really was. And also, if he left the hive long before Thorax, that leaves the question: Why? All the changelings we see, either official characters or not, left the hive after the attack on Canterlot, where they saw the evil Chrysalis was capable of, but if he left before that, what caused him to? Maybe he had something against Chrysalis herself? Who knows.

Also, just for you @Sawtooth Waves , Kevin might actually be watching. We know from the comics that Chrysalis was created by accident by Starswirl a long time ago, and she doesn't appear old, just fully grown; meaning, changelings have a really long life span. We also never see a changeling get sick, only tired from a lack of love. What I'm trying to get to is that, given they have a big enough food source, a changeling could potentially live to see G5. Just because we don't see them doesn't mean they're not there, especially when it comes to changelings. That's my theory at least, and one that I hope is true, for the sake of the hive.

I love how series indirectly create lores like this that actually add up when you piece them together, even though you know it's unintentionally on the makers' part.

Won’t lie, I think you might have nailed it. I actually like these, where there are stories of other characters that shown on the big screen once and we never hear again, but, in fact they are heard again. we just needed to look and put the story together.

Like Kevin the changing, or the lady who bark like a dog in hospital and chase rainbow dash, we see in the background that nurses visit her in her home to check up and I think later she had friends or a job? Or even other BG ponies we see, they have a story but it isn’t shown like how the Mane six are showing us their story and I believe that’s a nicer and interesting way to show (background character) someone story with out having to make the episode all about that story.

It’s like you pick up part one of a story in episode 2, then later on in episode 10, you find part two of that story and you part it together and see where that story of that character leads to. Which I love and hope to see more videos from you ^^

According to merchandise, Kevin appears within a crowd during at least the beginning of Let the Rainbow Remind You in the season four episode Twilight's Kingdom - Part 2. In the season five episode Slice of Life, Kevin appears in the audience at Cranky Doodle Donkey and Matilda's wedding, unintentionally frightening some foals.

I love changelings (go feed on me) and this theory! Perhaps there were more renegades changelings than we toughts who discovered that friendship gives infinite amount of changeling's food and also that Chrisalys lied to them. They were just living secretely and peecefully among ponies without thinking of starving thanks to friendship food but without knowing that they can share it. I think Thorax was just the first to discover that they can spread the energy of love & friendship and so being independant of others species's love/friendship.

Honestly, when I first saw that card, I thought it was Star Hunter immediately because one, I didn't recognize him from Ponyville (which I probably wouldn't have, since he's a pegasus), and two... He stood out immediately because he's not pastel like the others.

Kevin tried their hardest, but maybe leaving the hive made them a little rusty, cuz their disguises could use some work.

I feel like changlings are just MLPs version of teaching kids about racism

I've been thinking about the Cozy Glow alicorn thing but i feel like scenario is totally different then any other alicorn. In the video you talked about this situation, you summed up that it was having magic of all three different types of ponys but unlike the other alicorns, Cozy Glow used ANCIENT magic.

Rough idea for a future video, where are the changelings in the future? Considering how much working together with other creatures has mattered to their history didn't they have something to say about the tribes splitting?

Well... it's worth bringing up the fact that, the only 2 ponies on the rescue mission, were unicorns. And, that a lot of the unicorns seemed pretty tired, maybe even 'drained'. I don't want to point hooves, since I think changlings are awesome! But it's worth at least considering if nothing else.

Are we even sure this is really a changing and not another kind of shape-shifter, disguised as one for some unknown reason, perhaps mistakenly or just to troll everyone..?

I mean think about it, throughout the episodes we've seen a lot of look-a-likes of the many background characters, especially as different types of ponies. They too could be changelings in disguise as well... I mean, no two ponies look exactly the same right?

As for why his friendship with Cranky didn't reform him, I have some theories of my own but none that can be proven. One is that because the transformation is about sharing love, maybe Kevin's insistence to only have the one friend and keep that love for himself goes against those ideals. He's still technically hoarding love, even if he isn't feeding off it. Or maybe he is. Maybe Cranky allowed him to feed off him, we've never seen that it isn't possible. Which leads me to theory number two, Kevin doesn't see them as friends, but he does see Cranky as someone he respects. Perhaps a "friendship is for foals, I owe him a debt" sorta situation, where Kevin would have starved without Cranky's kindness and willingness to help, no questions asked. He doesn't admit that he cares about this donkey until after the reformation, when he starts to freely express emotions.

ps: you were right, twilight went into the portal and came out a Unicorn, wait, later on in another equestria girls movie, sunset gets her memory erased and her friends use friendship to bring it back, twilight sprouts wings and a horn there, this means she did something to become an alicorn during that time period

For the whole food thing at the wedding, i think of it as a joke, cause some people will attend a wedding and say that they're there for the food by joking, so that's what i think, you do prove a point and that if he truely was there for the food he would be in a disguise, but since he wasn't, i see that as a joke.

I have a thought about this changeling, (and I know i'm getting to this two weeks late, but been going through alot here.)
What if (and hear me out about this), Kevin is part of another changeling hive.
It's well known that Cranky travelled all across Equestria in his search for Matilda, and it's quite possible that he even travelled OUTSIDE of Equestria.
Who's to say that Crysal.... i mean, Thorax's Changeling Hive is the only one. Maybe Kevin is part of a different changeling hive, one from an area where they're accepted and welcomed as they are.

Here's a little headcanon for Kevin~

Kevin tried to take the form of either Cranky or Matilda, however Cranky/Matilda saw through the façade, but instead of being threatened or offended, they simply offered them some food, and talked about who the Changeling was disguised as, and then the pair went their separate ways~

This would make sense why Kevin "Just came for the food " And who knows, maybe to Kevin, food tastes best when it's received from a friend~

As a fellow changling... Who's chosen to renounce her changling appearance in favor of being an earth pony... I can fully understand his choice to blend in without wings, it makes you look more reliable and trust worthy, like AJ and Pinkie Pie. It was probably the first stalion he spotted that he didn't realise had wings, say in winter when he would wear cloaks, jackets, sweaters to keep the delicate skin on his wings from chaffing under his feathers.

There are some errors in the show so that could very much be plausible right?-
There is a good chance that Kevin could be alive, since well, they could be hiding again, since equestria did just get their magic back, so unless we get a series with sunny and her friends, this is the only lead we have.

This is a bit off topic from the video, But definitely something to consider.

As we know, the rainboom causes the main 6 to earn their cutie marks all at the same time. Even if not acquired at the same time, they must've gotten their cutie marks at some point. Or do they? We can't be sure. But given with the information we have, Let's theorize that they did. Would their destinies change?

Similar to what Starlight did, she was tampering with destiny(or this was destinys' plan all along) and without the rainboom, would fluttershy ever discover her love of creatures? Would Applejack learn her desire to live the country life? There's a chance all of this doesn't happen. Of course, there's also a chance that they get their destinies anyways just not at the same time.

We all know the story, Twilight would've failed her exam into the school of magic, and what would that lead to? Endless possibilities.

The pony in the wedding isn't A changling rewatch the first season they remove /add body parts on background characters so they don't always look "exactly" the same

So we're not going to question why photo finish of all ponies is there? She stands out more than a random background pony.

The shining wings I think is because of the crystal magic that even affected the looks of non crystal ponies. That it made his wings sparkle.

My opinion on changeling reformation is it has to be a conscious choice. Thorax wasn't hungry and had shiny wings before reforming and when giving away all his love reformed. So I like to think if a changeling didn't want to change but wanted to be good, they could likely still keep a bit of love inside themselves to prevent the reformation process entirely. Maybe Kevin hoarded some love to himself, but still hides because now it probably isn't very acceptable to be seen with all your holes. It's possible... Kevin is reformed in mind and just not in body.

Can you do a theory video about why the writers of the MLP FIM show decided not to give Spike the same kind of character development as the Mane_6 since he's the male protagonist of this show despite being a Dragon and not a pony?
