Steve Jones from Heron here. It's so good to discover new people enjoying our music. We played it with love and feeling all those years ago and it still sounds fresh. I've started a Heron Archives channel so that we can share some of the stories, new songs, clips from gigs and generally update the news about Heron. Did you know we never stopped playing and recording? Our final gig was in Japan in 2016. Unfortunately Tony Pook is no longer with us but he did get to gig in Japan. We miss him.
Heron's self-titled debut LP was a mild British drumless folk-rock with a rural/pastoral feel common to many early 70s-style records. This pastoral feeling, in this particular case, could have been partly intentional; the record was actually recorded in a field along the River Thames, and although the sound quality is very good, occasionally some birds and faint ambient sounds can be heard in the open air. Music is a very friendly, acoustic guitar thing that, as amazing as such a mixture may seem, is a bit like Simon & Garfunker's combination with the Incredible String Band, although there are not many stranger elements of the latter. You can cite both the most delicious and folky Paul McCartney ballads of the late '60s and early '70s (a la "Blackbird") and the harmonies of Crosby, Stills and Nash as less prominent influences. Some organ, piano and accordion add a little depth to the acoustic folk base. In common with a lot of records with obvious points of comparison with famous works, however, the songs themselves are not nearly as prominent as those of the artists mentioned earlier in this review. However, this does not mean that it is without its pluses. It is a fresh and youthful, if naïve, effort, with "Upon Reflection" which is both the most memorable song and the one that most resembles the early Simon & Garfunkel.ladislav&ziuvanovic....

Taj pastoralni osjećaj, u ovom konkretnom slučaju, mogao je biti djelomično namjeran; ploča je zapravo snimljena u polju uz rijeku Temzu, a iako je kvaliteta zvuka vrlo dobra, povremeno se mogu čuti neke ptice i slabi ambijentalni zvukovi na otvorenom. Glazba je vrlo prijateljska, akustična gitarska stvar koja, koliko god se takva mješavina činila nevjerojatnom, pomalo je poput kombinacije Simona & Garfunkela s Incredible String Bandom, iako nema mnogo čudnijih elemenata potonjeg. Kao manje istaknute utjecaje možete navesti i najsukusnije i naj folky Paul McCartney balade kasnih 60-ih i ranih 70-ih (a la "Blackbird") i harmonije Crosbyja, Stillsa i Nasha. Neki orgulje, klavir i harmonika dodaju malo dubine akustičnoj narodnoj bazi. Zajedničko s puno ploča s očitim točkama usporedbe s poznatim djelima, međutim, same pjesme nisu ni približno istaknute kao one umjetnika spomenutih ranije u ovom pregledu. Ce sentiment pastoral, dans ce cas particulier, aurait pu être en partie intentionnel; l’enregistrement a en fait été enregistré dans un champ le long de la Tamise, et bien que la qualité sonore soit très bonne, parfois certains oiseaux et de faibles sons ambiants peuvent être entendus à l’air libre. La musique est une chose de guitare acoustique très sympathique qui, aussi étonnant qu’un tel mélange puisse paraître, est un peu comme la combinaison de Simon & Garfunker avec l’Incredible String Band, bien qu’il n’y ait pas beaucoup d’éléments étrangers de ce dernier. Vous pouvez citer à la fois les ballades les plus délicieuses et folkloriques de Paul McCartney de la fin des années 60 et du début des années 70 (à la « Blackbird ») et les harmonies de Crosby, Stills et Nash comme des influences moins importantes. Certains orgue, piano et accordéon ajoutent un peu de profondeur à la base folklorique acoustique.
