@BetaTester704 of course they don't support hacking their devices?? It's dangerous if done in a malicious way and would ruin their reputation Use your head once please
@RosesBubble Litterly ever video ive seen on the game and watch about hacking it has been to enable feature it should have. They dont support theft. Which is how you acquire roms. Thats one of the reasons why they removed them.
@RosesBubble nintendo released a public kit for coding on the NES called Family BASIC. Sega and Sony all did this at some point as well. It's not a forgien idea really.
Wouldve been cool if they made a super cheap small portable console based off of the game and watches, even if it was just about as powerful as a nes, but had a lot of games and support for third party, basically what the playdate is doing.
@viscountalpha Why would Nintendo want to make it easier to mod? It's not in their interests to do so, Nintendo are interested in making the most money possible not building a platform for hardware hacking.
@Stephen Digs History You're annoyed that I pointed out why the specs are limited? Whatever floats your boat man, I'm sure you'll find plenty to be annoyed at on the Internet, have fun.
If you don't mind soldering fine pitch wires, you can connect the D+/D- wires from the connector to the SWDIO/CLK pins and then use a USB-C breakout board to connect to the pins from the outside. It has been done and works quite well. However, it would probably be a bad idea to connect that to a proper USB Host.
I wonder if someone could make a mod-chip-like type device (possibly a solderless design) that installs relatively easily, implements the basic USB data protocol, and possibly increases the storage capacity? I'd probably buy one, particularly if it avoided the need to buy an STM32 (or similar) development board.
@kbeckmann Hmm. Emulating 1.5 Mbps slow speed USB using general purpose IO pins is trivial, and even 12 Mbps is not impossible, so you could make homebrew that properly communicates with a PC host using USB. Anyone up to the task?
@Airsh Bornely I believe the biggest problem is that the data cables from the usb has been cut, it can be used only for charging, so you won't ever be able to add anything just by using USB
@J Bentham it's just because of the novelty of it being an official Nintendo product. Also the game and watch is more compact I believe which some people might be looking for.
@Will Thompson Totally my opinion. I would so love to play Tetris, River City Ransom and NES World Cup on an original small Nintendo Handheld which isnt as huge as my switch <3
@Airsh Bornely I was gonna be about doing Mario 3 on it, but I think I'm with you and I'd want as many Game and Watch games (that were originally one screen) as I could get on it, (since this is designed to be an homage to G&W) then if there's enough room, add Mario 3 lol
Seeing as they made the JTAG/SWD lines available on the board, they probably knew this would happen and more or less approved. The NES and SNES minis were also pretty easy to hack.
@AJ The Switch and PS4 and hell almost the PS5 got day one hacks. A little thing with no security at all should have been a field day for hackers if the damn USB data connection wasn't severed.
@Dennis McDonald Yeah, I think my mom about a decade & a half ago sold mine in a garage sale along with at least a 100 Gameboy games. Were sad times. 😔
@Ziggybam Murphy1 Lol. I only have one, but I am keeping the box because of the art. The hardware is limited also, so that's another reason why I'd rather get a Gameboy Advanced to mod. 😅
@Ramon Matos yeah we know we can get those. But there's just this magic and thrill that comes with hacking Nintendo consoles that makes it worth it over something like those portable emulation devices
Yes, hopefully someone is able to do the hardware mod for me. It is going to be great. Already played more Super Mario in the last for weeks then in the 34 years before!
Perfect timing, I have just recently started learning programming STM32 microcontrollers! Your videos are super interesting, I think that seeing how some hardware works in real life helps to understand it better
Wow, you're good at hacking, communicating, AND video editing? I don't think I've ever seen a modding tutorial that was this good. The transparent terminal overlay was a nice touch!
I wonder if by now someone could start a Game & Watch Super mario emulator/simulator (not the g&w core for retroarch) for other platforms. Would be great if this can be ported to a Nintendo Switch. Keep up the good work!
Hopefully someone can make a tutorial on setting up a development environment for this. While I'm not that new to programing, there do seem to be a few steps to get everything to work correctly before you can start writing a program. Great work btw! Cant wait to see what more comes of this.

Wow, I genuinely didn’t expect modding on this thing to be very successful, much less this fast. This is exciting, I can’t wait to be able to play GameBoy games on this.
So happy you're pioneering this development process!!! Not sure how comparable/possible this would be, but if this could eventually become as accessible as setting up CFW on the SNES Mini I'd be psyched!!!
Thanks for continuing to work on this. I looked at the Doom project, but there was no info on actually writing it to the hardware, so I'm looking forward to being able to reprogram my game and watch soon!
I think in a way nintendo gave us an unintentional gift by how niche and difficult this little guy is too crack. I think that alone will form a very unique community and homebrew will be so epic and heartfelt
Thank you for mentioning that you can separate that part of the Nucleo board and use that for programming! I just happened to have one laying around that I haven't used.
@Eloise Cole if it was possible to install the 3 US mario releases onto it, it would keep with the aesthetic. People might even make Tetris, castlevania, metroid shells etc (paint additional units).
You do some epic work good sir! I’ve designed a slide over protective case and stand for it too... if you’re interested, I’ll stuff one in the post for you!
I'm looking forward to this becoming end-user ready with some simple modifications. My wish for Game & Watch hacking is modest. I just want to add a small number of other NES roms to it. Megaman 2, Punch-Out, Zelda, Mario 3. That kind of thing.
As said on Twitter, I'm really really (did I said really?) excited about this! Mainly regarding The legend of Zelda game + the save-game & standby implementation... Those Game & Watch were part of my childhood... but missed the Zelda game (as I was more a Sega Master System, then got both MegaDrive & SNES, and unfortunatly "lost" the NES Zelda game...)
One question: why implement a NES (or GB) emulator (which should be really great, of course!), rather than give user some "script(s)" to patch NES images/homebrew & flash into the device? I guess have part of the response: bcs It's fun to do this... and... should be difficult to implement the patch, rather having an emulator that that may already handle direcly roms & key-mapping & Save "memory/state" options?!
Nevertheless, already bought a backup G&W (!) to perform my own tests (1st one is for (my) Christmas, still waiting to open it)... Unfortunatly, I'm not confident regarding possible soldering & electrinic parts, nevertheless, should handle if needed... Just holding my next steps (USB access via soldering cables, or possibily buying a Nucleo link device as advised), waiting to, as you said, possible progress regarding implementation & connectivity & how to doc. (so far Linux scripts are not a huge pb to me).
Wow your work is amazing!! After the hardware mod, do you think it would be possible to dump the miniNES hacked launcher/emulator on this device including every NES rom? Just like they did to the miniNES.
I am expecting you or someone else to talk about the Game & Watch at this year's c3. This project fits the theme of a c3 potentially more than any other console before.
I want to add the Game & Watch Gallery collections from the GBC. That would make this device perfect for me so I hope more solid homebrews comes later!
Thank you for the Hello World Project! I'm new to electronics and IC dev, this is an amazing resources for the new student! Danke! Du bist ein wunderbarer Menschen!( I'm studying german for the past 5 months, sorry if this is grammatically incorrect).
if we flash homebrew software, such as a custom emulators (nes/GB), could'nt we just ditch the SPI flash in favor of an SD Card? and if so could even have a bootloader that loads update fw from the sdcard (like most 32bit 3d printer baords based on stm32 cpus), making the stlink a one time business?
bruh, nintendo should make more of these. People are literally programming a ton of stuff into the console. I can't wait for an easier way to get my legend of zelda one homebrewed!
Awesome video although you were not very specific on the hardware required - do you have links/model numbers for the hardware tools needed. Also can this be done without soldering - I.e attaching those clips? Keep up the good work!
@stacksmashing thanks for replying - I found this Jlink device and the saleae clips but how do you connect the two? Might wait until this becomes a bit more accessible but enjoying your progress!!
Perfect! I love the way that this Game And Watch is hacked haha!! Nice work pale!
If i can just say one things, you get too fast to explain the whole tutorial... Take your time to separate the parts. I can follow you but not all guys here are SuperTechnician. Don't misunderstand, it's not a negative advise, it's a constructive words.
Hacking this thing feels more important than the hacking of the NES/SNES Classics. These are Nintendo-made with good build quality, and might just end up being the best 'official' NES emulation machines out there (factoring in screen size, compactness, aesthetics). Good luck - keep it up!
Considering the device's hardware ability, I'm guessing it's limited to running NES, GB, GBC, sega masters, Game Gear, SG-1000, atari 2600-7200, that's still a few thousand games if you guys can increase the space requirements to a few Gigs.
i would love this kind of videos for the switch hombrew dev i think switch stuff is like everywhere and there is kinda a lot of outdated data and fake data
I would love to try this. I have really high end programmers and make my own ps1 mm3 chips. I'm going to buy the board listed. Can anyone recommend good j-link and test clips on Amazon (preferably)?
I'm curious why the SMB game that comes with the device uses the entire screen, but your emulator seems to use a window of the screen. I'm assuming the emulator is just doing a 1:1 rendering, so that begs the question what they did to SMB that is causing it to render to the entire LCD?
Given the LCD is 320x240 Sega Genesis emulation would fit nicely. Mapping 3 button to the 2 main one available might be kludgy but a lot of games really only need 2. I know the STM chip has data lines for an SD card too. I wonder if along with a larger SPI flash we couldn’t also get limitless storage space and turn this into the ultimate portable device...
How hard would it be to write a Game and Watch emulator hosted on 64 bit PCs? Given how much you guys already know about the hardware, would that be feasible? Seems like it would be a good way for devs to test their programs quicker
So for 60 dollars we got a NES classic with a pretty decent selection of games and an easy way to add more to your hearts content. For 50 dollars you get a mobile version of Mario or Zelda and as a sweetener they tossed in a clock app. Makes perfect sense to me.
I was thinking it should be fairly easy to rewire that SPI flash chip for use with an SD card slot, maybe even use both if there's a spare pin that can be used for CS. I'm really wondering if it's worth trying to get my hands on one of these to implement... looks like Bestbuy is sold out though.
Yeah it should work. I've been using one of these and it's worked out quite well. It's a bit slow but that's fine. The reset issue is just inconvenient, not a problem. EDIT: If it's one of the clones, they may not always work 100% reliably, glitch, cause random issues. An official ST-Link is better, or use a J-Link Edu Mini.
@stacksmashing Well, sure, it wouldn't be particularly useful, but "could you?" and "should you?" are two very different questions... Not that I'd be willing to do such a thing, personally. Thanks for the response.
So my question is if you could load other mario-based games without having to flash an emulator on. For example, could I load the SMB1 romhack "Super Mario Bros Special for NES" over the top of Ball?
@dronesflier It comes with SMB, SMB2J, and a recreation of Ball. Rather than emulating a bunch of other games or porting Doom, I'd like to see recreations of other G&W games in the style of Ball, since this is styled after a Game & Watch, after all. ;) Who knows... they might even find that there are remnants of others hidden in the FW since it may have started out as a sort of "Game & Watch Classic Edition." If not, maybe the program that runs Ball is extensible and the format can be analyzed to quickly replicate other G&W games in a similar style without having to write code from scratch to replicate that look/style.
Would it be possible to replace the SPI flash with an SD card and access it in SPI mode? then the contents could be easily interchanged/deployed in the future...
Don't forget the SD card support for people who accidentally cut their programming pin hole on the wrong side of the shell totally intended to cut a second hole for the SD card. 😋
Hey dude. Just to be clear. I have no plans to do content on this. I'm just learning and having fun. Feel free to use any of my stuff from github. I'll have no hard feelings if you choose not to. It's totally up to you. The reason I put an MIT license on the repo is just to say 'no warranty.' As far as I'm concerned it is a 'do whatever the eff you want with it - license.' -Jake
What are the specs of this? I'm really curious? I have a Nintendo DS and Nintendo 64 with homebrew and I know the specs of those but, not of this? How many megabytes of space? How much RAM? How much VRAM?
But can you emulate OG game & watch games?! I wont be satisfied until theres a way to link these together, and play the 2 player boxing game. That was the best game and watch.
What's the reasoning behind porting your own NES emulator instead of just replacing the ROM on the existing one, and removing whatever alterations it makes to the ROM on the fly?
I do notice some weird flickering on the NES, like for SMB3.
well i can tell you that this is more of a device for messing around with making your own homebrew, the game and watch only has 1.1mb of flash memory on it so it could fit 1 bigger nes rom or around 10 smaller ones, and that's best case scenario. but if you still decide to go with it, a good source for the swd programmers is ebay, the j-link (the one he uses) is around 10 USD, but you can get a cheaper st-link knockoff (the orangeish yellowish one he shows off) for around 3usd, and the test clips (the one on the left in the video) are about 5-10 USD, while the soldering on wires approach is pretty much free if you strip some random cable for the wires, but its also harder to take off later if you want to.
Nintendo could make so much money selling blank handhelds for ROM use. I know they don't like ROMs, but at least they could still make money off of them that way.
the only thing that would be worthwhile playing on this tiny thing, would be emulations of all of the original game and watches (minus the dual screen ones). which, honestly, would be really cool of nintendo themselves to release, but they'll never do that because they never do something actually cool like that. they totally should release one game and watch device that emulates as many of the originals as possible.
on top of that, this one shouldn't have had an emulation of Ball with mario on it. it SHOULD have had an emulation of the "super mario bros" game and watch, since it was for mario's 35th anniversary. the super mario bros game and watch game was probably one of the best of all game and watches and was actually pretty fun. WHY oh why they chose to do fricking BALL instead of that one. only the people at nintendo could ever explain.
You can use the JTAG port to restore a firmware backup no matter what barring hardware damage, right? So no need to worry about bricks when messing with firmware?
I don't think it's worth hacking these little things, I rather just collect them 😊
It is cool to see how it's done tho, I recently got the Zelda one comes with three classic Zelda games and a game and watch game....so cute and it has a glowing triforce on the back it's pretty cool....been playing links awakening sadly it's the original not DX but still a good fun game...
I hope Nintendo releases a Metroid one or Donkey Kong 🙂🙂

I absolutely admire what is being done here but I can't help but wonder - why?
Clearly this is an extremely low key piece of hardware. I'm well aware that it was never really intended to do much more than play SMB1 and be something of a novelty that paid homage to the original device. I also understand that there are people in the world that love to take on projects like this for no other reason than because they can, to see what is possible but we all already know this device is so limited that it'll hit a wall soon enough - one that we probably saw 25-30 years or more ago in game development. So I ask the question again - why bother?
There are countless devices out there that will emulate old games. Why would anyone want to play SMB3 (or Doom) on this?
Or did I answer my own question - because why not/because people can?
to the point where you should either A. downgrade to an older windows version (aka windows 7 with a bunch of security programs), or just use ubuntu/other linux distros
@alguien más ive found running ubuntu in virtualbox from within windows to be annoying, dual booting would be the way to go given that you are using uefi boot
$50 buck for a game & watch of today is 1000X cheaper then getting any of the original 1980 Game & Watch like Ball on ebay go for anywhere from $200, $400, $800 as much as $1000+ used.
Ok a few things: its not an snes emulator but nes and this is not a gameboy but a game and watch. But to answer your question not unless you overwrite the original data on the 1mb data chip
Does this imply that cheap st-link adapters actually won’t work? Will they harm the device or just fail? Asking for a friend ;)

Hi,
so if I want to buy an arm debug probe only for this project, what would you suggest? Is it possible to dump the flash with one of these clones, or is it impossible? I did only understand, that there are some disadvantages, but not if that stops me using it for the project, like:
These will work fine, at least they did for me. I have been using these kind of probes with the G&W and the only issue is the reset line which is just an annoyance. It will still work. EDIT: However, they may not always work 100% reliably, glitch, cause random issues. An official ST-Link is better, or use a J-Link Edu Mini.
@stacksmashing Yea i ordered tho dev board too. Merry Xmas to me. :) May be the cheap one can be disassembled and connected to the USBc board as "internal debug tool". Anyway... thanx for teaming up and creating such a great Xmas present!
so wait, im sorry if this is a dumb question but why did you need to port an NES emulator to the game and watch? why couldn't you use the built in NES emulator and just swap out the rom?
So they learn from the nes/snes mini. But when they (NINTENDO) were asembling the units how or when did they test the software or fix it in process? Brake it a part for sw check or fix seems time consumming as faaaak.
Not a user friendly hack, being that it can only be through debug and no USB for data transfer, Id buy another unit and go through the effort as long as I could throw a NES/GB/GG emulator with a few games. Otherwise, you would be spending alot of time, effort and money to flash a single game or 2 on there.
if that microcontroller supports USB 2.0 would it not be fairly easy to connect it to the data pins of the USB connector and get some kind of flashing working that way as well?
It still requires a hardware modification which raises the bar, but yeah you could probably do that. The USB pins are used for the LCD as well, that might be an issue. I haven't tried to use USB yet but it's worth trying out. There is a built in PHY that would give you FS, i.e. 12Mb/s. That's fast enough for this.
Unlike the NES Mini and SNES Mini, they've made it too difficult for the average user to hack this console. Also, it's not worth all this effort for a quite low powered machine such as this (probably can't run anything past SNES), and with extremely small storage as well. The controls aren't stellar, either, and the screen is very small even for NES games. There are much better alternatives to this, even for less money. This is just a case of hacking because you can, not because it's really worth it.
question: i have "ST-Link V2 Programming Unit mini STM8 STM32 Emulator Downloader M89 Top ST" bought from ebay will this work? and how to excute scripts with it if so? also regarding the connection on the repo you mention "When connecting the debugger ensrue that at least SWDIO, SWDCLK and GND are connected" so what about the GND and VDD (are they not required to be connected ??? as i saw on your tweet you hock all the test clips to all the ports)
How about giving it a Game and Watch emulator? So you can play loads of Game and Watch titles on it. Would make a lot more sense than NES or gameboy games.
@stacksmashing Oh not qualified for that kinda stuff. Can barely hack my toaster. I was just suggesting a possible thing you skilled hackers could implement.
I thought the data port on the game and watch wasn't connected? That what another video as saying. I'm really wanting to put the original drag quest games on here. One at time of course. I wish someone would just make a raspberry Pi device that would fit inside of this so we could take out the current motherboard and just just replace it. Using a SD card with this would be amazing! Thanks for figuring all this out man :D
The funny thing is people got these because they were hoping to hack them. Unless the device can be hacked at some point by plugging into the USB most people won't so it. I do see a market for hardware modded Game and Watches. That and kits that don't require soldering skills.
Nintendo are NOT ALLOWED to release a NES Emulator according to the Gentleman's Agreement and also Licensing Deals. But like the early Nintendo DS, unofficial hacks are unofficially allowed.
Money Laundering, Bookcooking, Trade Quota, and so on. Also Secret Space Program disclosure censorship. The videogame industry is filled with Money Laundering, that is a Wii U game in Japan suddenly had a large sales despite the Wii U has been discontinued.
Also regional censorship (aka 'region lock'), materials from one area might not be viewed in another area. Akin of not allowing people to take photos of a military facility or military objects.
Unlike the Family Computer / Famicom / Nintendo Entertainment System series, the Game & Watch series fell under a different Accord, the same goes for the SuperMarionation, ahem, Super Mario Bros game.
@Why? Well actually I like the original look and programing of it. However, I'd totally gut an original Gameboy Advance for ROMs & such. The design on those looked about 5 years too late. 😅
@MegaMan X I was just saying that since your profile name is “Mega Man X” and SNES and DOS are the only two consoles that can play X that I can somewhat see running on this.
@Why? I think only NES games will work on this hardware. It's very limited according to the other 2 breakdowns he has done of it so far. It's basically a mini Nintendo with the screen and controller all in one unit. 😅
@Mr. Peanut Agreed. And Nintendo could even sell the ROM images for $5 for people who don't want to pirate. But no. Nintendo has stupid policies of getting butt-hurt about everything.
@Robin Browne Actually they did/tried that on the Wii & WiiU, but I don't think they sold those old games that much on there charging $5 a pop. The Nintendo Switch has now just bundled a lot of the NES & SNES games onto official emulators that you can play when you get a Nintendo Online subscription for $20 a year. So they're learning! 😅
Why oh why for the love of all things nintendo...why doesnt this have the original game&watch super mario game on it 😥😥😥 missed a big trick there nintendo, could have doubled sales
Me too me too, ive been waiting about 32yrs to complete the original game and watch super mario, mine was stolen off me when i was young and ive never got round to replacing it, ive just been bought this new version for Christmas and im determined im gonna put the original one on this new machine, i used to hack/mod/chip back in the day when it was ALL soldering chips on the board etc 🤣 i got bored when it all became softmods
Typical Nintendo! Why didn't they just make it already opened up for ROMs with a port and sd card and just sell it I little higher priced to make up for some of the loss. they surely know it was going to be hack fairly quickly anyways!
Can't you just inject ROMs and use the official emulator? Can't stand these half ass homebrew emulators like pocket nes and dsnes. The end goal should be near perfect emulation of NES games on this device. It has a classic NES D-pad and a true 4:3 aspect ratio for once. It blows away the GBA and DS for NES emulation. If possible, the ideal solution IMO is to allow for playing the ROM of your choice, using the official emulator.
they will probably throw a Cease & Desist at some point, which in this case would be even dumber than usual. No matter if you want it vanilla or hack it, you need to buy one (or more than one) and won't make a difference to their pockets. Most likely will increase sales quite a bit. I don't care about the original product but i like the idea of moddind it so now i'm actually considering to buy one.
Downvoted for the BLUR. Just show a generic game if you're worried about Copyright FFS.
Same with the Yuzu videos that get taken down for copyright. They wouldn't be able to be removed if they showed third party games instead of the typical Mario/Zelda titles.
Nobody’s gonna do this too many parts and tinkering just make a software or something nobody’s reasonably gonna do all this when they can just buy a retro pi or just use browser emulators on their phones
Sorry too complicated...do you think we will ever be able to add ROMs without buying all this stuff? if not I'm gonna sell this and buy a retroid mini. appreciate all your efforts though.
one day you might be able to make the usb c port actually connect to the cpu, best case scenario that will require a separate pcb to be soldered in to microscopic solder points. sorry man but this thing is never gonna be a simple hack.
already have all those games on my little phone NES/SNES/GENESIS/GameGear/MegaDrive/GB/GBC/GBA/NDS/3DS/PS1/PS2/GC/Wii/Atari2600/AtariJaguar/SATURN why i should use Nintendo Game & Watch for emu O.o?!
Novelty. In fact the whole thing is basically just novelty. You can have a clock, a G&W emulator and an NES emulator on your phone and it'll be basically the same thing.
Nintendo should’ve done this as a first party service. Great when the hacking and home brew community is leading the way.

I believe MAME can emulate all the Game & Watch games, I wonder if it would be possible to port a cut-down version of MAME that just ran these games.
6 likesIt should have had a larger rom chip. They didn't have to make it hard for us to mod.
3 likes@viscountalpha Why would Nintendo want to make it easier to mod? It's not in their interests to do so, Nintendo are interested in making the most money possible not building a platform for hardware hacking.

11 likes@J Bentham why get an anbernic handheld when you can get an new 2ds for the same price and play more games and better quality emulation.
4 likesYes yes yes
1 like@Alberto Saldivar I just got a 3ds xl and after hacking it wow I can't believe the library even though I have a vita but the DS library is huge.
5 likes@J Bentham bro, you rockin' the new anbernic!?
2 likes@Airsh Bornely I was gonna be about doing Mario 3 on it, but I think I'm with you and I'd want as many Game and Watch games (that were originally one screen) as I could get on it, (since this is designed to be an homage to G&W) then if there's enough room, add Mario 3 lol
1 like@Apache Raider yes and it natively support the Nintendo consoles which are the main consoles people emulate...
0 likesId love to play game boy games on mine...
0 likescan’t wait for the game and watch itself to be made more accessible

Xbox Series X emulator
6 likesSeeing as they made the JTAG/SWD lines available on the board, they probably knew this would happen and more or less approved. The NES and SNES minis were also pretty easy to hack.
10 likesThe degree of difficulty involved with this mod will rule out 90% of people. But still fascinating to see!
56 likesReplies (3)
Bro it just came out fucking chill do you really expect a full hack the same fuckin day lmfaoooooooo
1 like@AJ The Switch and PS4 and hell almost the PS5 got day one hacks. A little thing with no security at all should have been a field day for hackers if the damn USB data connection wasn't severed.
12 likesThe difficulty is what makes me wanna try it...
1 likeAmazing. I can't believe the speed and success you guys have had with this system. Keep up the great work!
6 likesCan't wait for someone to homebrew the entire game n watch library onto these, making it the way it should've been in the first place. :)
12 likesExtremely interesting to see what goes on behind the scenes of console "hacking"
30 likesSo much progress in so little time! Great job! keep it up!
16 likesVery cool stuff. Thanks to you and Konrad for all the hard work in bringing this forward more and more.
2 likesYou've got me thinking about buying one, now. There's clearly a lot of potential here.

Already hard to find in the Netherlands. Good luck!
1 likeShouldn't be too hard to find in America though.
2 likes@Obscure Games The last couple times I was at the local Walmart there were a bunch of them just chilling on the shelf.
3 likes@The Espers exactly it's undesirable.
0 likesI'm loving all the progress that's being made! I'm curious about SMB3 not filling the screen does the built in games use a different pixel size?
3 likesExcited to see these new hardware hacks. i bought 2 units just for this reason!

Same here!!
7 likesJust get Anbernic
2 likesI like it too much to want to open it up, but an original Gameboy Advanced however would be great! Especially the Gameboy Advanced SP NES Edition! 😃
5 likes@megamanx Lol,I still have my dead mint Game Boy SP NES edition! Never parting with it. <3
1 like@Dennis McDonald Yeah, I think my mom about a decade & a half ago sold mine in a garage sale along with at least a 100 Gameboy games. Were sad times. 😔
1 likeI got 3 😂 one to play one to do this and one to keep boxed
2 likes@Ziggybam Murphy1 Lol. I only have one, but I am keeping the box because of the art. The hardware is limited also, so that's another reason why I'd rather get a Gameboy Advanced to mod. 😅
0 likesSame here!!
0 likes@Ramon Matos yeah we know we can get those. But there's just this magic and thrill that comes with hacking Nintendo consoles that makes it worth it over something like those portable emulation devices
0 likesbe honest you know you will never play a single game on this😂😂😂
1 like@VSMOKE probably not but some of us have fun doing stuff like this. Where's the crime in that?
0 likes@Roberto Taveras I like doing stuff like this too chill am lol at myself because I know that if I did hack this I probably wouldn't play the games👌
1 like@VSMOKE ah, looks like i pegged you wrong. My bad man
0 likes@Ziggybam Murphy1 Same!
0 likesYes, hopefully someone is able to do the hardware mod for me. It is going to be great. Already played more Super Mario in the last for weeks then in the 34 years before!
1 likei might buy a mario model just for this
0 likesVery well done sir, this is amazing progress in such a short space of time.
2 likesThis series is so interesting!!! Makes me want to pick up one
12 likesReplies (1)
No time like the present. These things are NOT going to get any cheaper...
6 likesGreat work and so well explained. This is the kind of work we need on YT 👍 👏👏👏
0 likesPerfect timing, I have just recently started learning programming STM32 microcontrollers! Your videos are super interesting, I think that seeing how some hardware works in real life helps to understand it better
1 likeWow, you're good at hacking, communicating, AND video editing? I don't think I've ever seen a modding tutorial that was this good. The transparent terminal overlay was a nice touch!
2 likesI wonder if by now someone could start a Game & Watch Super mario emulator/simulator (not the g&w core for retroarch) for other platforms. Would be great if this can be ported to a Nintendo Switch.
2 likesKeep up the good work!
You deserve much more recognition. Watching your videos is making me wish I was good at reverse engineering and stuff.
1 likeThis is why I bought one of these last week. I knew it was only a matter of time. Excellent work!
2 likesHopefully someone can make a tutorial on setting up a development environment for this. While I'm not that new to programing, there do seem to be a few steps to get everything to work correctly before you can start writing a program.
2 likesGreat work btw! Cant wait to see what more comes of this.
Wow, I genuinely didn’t expect modding on this thing to be very successful, much less this fast. This is exciting, I can’t wait to be able to play GameBoy games on this.
1 likeSo happy you're pioneering this development process!!! Not sure how comparable/possible this would be, but if this could eventually become as accessible as setting up CFW on the SNES Mini I'd be psyched!!!
1 likewow~ making so much progress within this short period of time. Can't wait to see more fun stuffs running on this tiny device.
1 likeThanks for continuing to work on this. I looked at the Doom project, but there was no info on actually writing it to the hardware, so I'm looking forward to being able to reprogram my game and watch soon!
2 likesI love the progress made so far! I look forward to giving this a go on mine
1 likeI was wondering if memory expansion would be possible. Excellent progress 👍🏾
0 likesI think in a way nintendo gave us an unintentional gift by how niche and difficult this little guy is too crack. I think that alone will form a very unique community and homebrew will be so epic and heartfelt
2 likesThis is incredible work. Thank you!
3 likesReally impressive work i must say, thanks for sharing! (づ。◕‿‿◕。)づ ♥
0 likesDude, will you ever stop?! This is amazing! What talent!
15 likesThank you for mentioning that you can separate that part of the Nucleo board and use that for programming! I just happened to have one laying around that I haven't used.
0 likesIs it possible to take advantage of the original "emulator"? Perhaps replace the 3 games with 3 new ones?
24 likesReplies (4)
I had the same thought. I saw on another video that SMB was running on an emulator, you can tell by how it pauses.
2 likes@lass kinn i agree, you mean the bank switching? so no smb3 or castlevania for example?
0 likesI wish a could replace the lost level with smb3 !!
0 likes@Eloise Cole if it was possible to install the 3 US mario releases onto it, it would keep with the aesthetic. People might even make Tetris, castlevania, metroid shells etc (paint additional units).
2 likesYou do some epic work good sir! I’ve designed a slide over protective case and stand for it too... if you’re interested, I’ll stuff one in the post for you!
1 likeGreat video. Would be good to see a port a G&W emulator to give this an authentic old school GW feel
0 likesGood progress, thanks for sharing the journey!
5 likesIts nice to watch the progress of a console homebrew scene develop rather than trying to rebuild the history in retrospect.
6 likesReplies (1)
Yeah, I kinda wanna see how future videos about "how the game and watch was homebrewed before it launched" will look like, in 5 or so years
0 likesAwesome, I'm hoping it will one day be possible to put all of the G&W library on there!
2 likesthis video is super concise and informative, it is frankly a breath of fresh air on youtube.
0 likeskeep up the good work
Fantastic work! great video! keep up the awesome work!
3 likesI love watching you and Konrad hacking the life out off (in to?) this :D
3 likesI'm looking forward to this becoming end-user ready with some simple modifications. My wish for Game & Watch hacking is modest. I just want to add a small number of other NES roms to it. Megaman 2, Punch-Out, Zelda, Mario 3. That kind of thing.
0 likesAs said on Twitter, I'm really really (did I said really?) excited about this! Mainly regarding The legend of Zelda game + the save-game & standby implementation...
0 likesThose Game & Watch were part of my childhood... but missed the Zelda game (as I was more a Sega Master System, then got both MegaDrive & SNES, and unfortunatly "lost" the NES Zelda game...)
Keep on following you & beckmanns & ...!
Wow your work is amazing!! After the hardware mod, do you think it would be possible to dump the miniNES hacked launcher/emulator on this device including every NES rom? Just like they did to the miniNES.
0 likesThank you so much for working on this!!!! Love it!
1 likeThis is amazing! Great job!
1 likeI am expecting you or someone else to talk about the Game & Watch at this year's c3.
0 likesThis project fits the theme of a c3 potentially more than any other console before.
You're really about to turn me onto programming with these videos. You keep it up with these videos and you might. Stay dangerous.
0 likesVery good job! It's a shame it won't work by using only USB. Anyway, awesome work, keep it up
1 likeWow, this is pretty amazing. As someone who has never hacked anything, I only wonder how I can get my game and watch to do amazing stuff. :P
0 likesthis is basically proof of concept for a modchip (or something more 2020 like ;)
0 likesamazing work and acomplished incredibly fast!!

I want to add the Game & Watch Gallery collections from the GBC. That would make this device perfect for me so I hope more solid homebrews comes later!
0 likesGreat stuff! I hope someone makes a port of the original Game & Watch game, Fire. That's what I want on mine
1 likeLoving this series on game and watch.
1 likeI really hope this gets refined as time goes on. If I could play the Game & Watch Gallery games on this, full screen, that's a huge value.
0 likesThis is ace! Thanks for all your work!

0 likesI'd love to see Little Sound DJ or Nanoloop on there! =)
2 likesGreat news! I'm interested in helping out with the development. I'll check out all repositories and available info
0 likesThis just needs to be a NES and Game Boy emulator, would be perfect like that
1 likeThank you.

Funny how people have already got the new xboxplaying PS2 games.
Thank you for the Hello World Project! I'm new to electronics and IC dev, this is an amazing resources for the new student! Danke! Du bist ein wunderbarer Menschen!( I'm studying german for the past 5 months, sorry if this is grammatically incorrect).
0 likesAbsolutely fantastic!
3 likesAmazing project! :)
0 likesomg this is super cool, I'd love to code somehomebrew on this... sure it'd be a "waste of time" but holy hooker would it be fun!
0 likesIma try to get my hands on one and check out the links!
if we flash homebrew software, such as a custom emulators (nes/GB), could'nt we just ditch the SPI flash in favor of an SD Card?
2 likesand if so could even have a bootloader that loads update fw from the sdcard (like most 32bit 3d printer baords based on stm32 cpus), making the stlink a one time business?
bruh, nintendo should make more of these. People are literally programming a ton of stuff into the console. I can't wait for an easier way to get my legend of zelda one homebrewed!
0 likesAwesome video although you were not very specific on the hardware required - do you have links/model numbers for the hardware tools needed. Also can this be done without soldering - I.e attaching those clips? Keep up the good work!
0 likesReplies (2)
It's linked in the description - and the video mentions it's possible with those clips :)
0 likes@stacksmashing thanks for replying - I found this Jlink device and the saleae clips but how do you connect the two? Might wait until this becomes a bit more accessible but enjoying your progress!!
0 likesAwesome video. Looking forward to see where you take this.
0 likesMore respect! Damn you guys are awesome!
0 likesI’m interested to see if anyone manages to get a game and watch emulator working on this 😉
0 likesKeep up the good work!
1 likeI love love what is gaming watch is originally and love that you guys are making it even better
0 likesPerfect! I love the way that this Game And Watch is hacked haha!! Nice work pale!
0 likesIf i can just say one things, you get too fast to explain the whole tutorial... Take your time to separate the parts. I can follow you but not all guys here are SuperTechnician. Don't misunderstand, it's not a negative advise, it's a constructive words.
See yah, best regards
Hacking this thing feels more important than the hacking of the NES/SNES Classics. These are Nintendo-made with good build quality, and might just end up being the best 'official' NES emulation machines out there (factoring in screen size, compactness, aesthetics). Good luck - keep it up!
0 likesAwesome keep up the good work. I want the one with Zelda😁👍. Best regards from Sweden
0 likesEven more excited for this to be applicable for some of the ultra cheap Chinese devices with the same hardware on the market
0 likesConsidering the device's hardware ability, I'm guessing it's limited to running NES, GB, GBC, sega masters, Game Gear, SG-1000, atari 2600-7200, that's still a few thousand games if you guys can increase the space requirements to a few Gigs.
0 likesYou guys are making the Game and Watch what it should have been.
0 likesbefore: Its gonna be hard to get homebrew on the 2ds
7 likesNow: HOMEBREW ON THE GAME AND WATCH
i would love this kind of videos for the switch hombrew dev i think switch stuff is like everywhere and there is kinda a lot of outdated data and fake data
0 likesInteresting and a great work, but for the moment is still too complicated for a simply usage.
0 likesCan't wait for the soldering instructions on getting the data port in the USP C port enabled
0 likesI love it, so awesome! Thanks for sharing...
0 likesI definately know that someone would do it... very excited for everything to come^^
3 likesI hope someone ports the GW-libretro game and watch simulator to this
20 likesYou're doing the lord's work. Well done.
0 likesI would love to add nothing but a game and watch library for this little guy :)
0 likesAmazing work!
0 likesThanks for all your work! :D
0 likesI would love to try this. I have really high end programmers and make my own ps1 mm3 chips. I'm going to buy the board listed. Can anyone recommend good j-link and test clips on Amazon (preferably)?
0 likesI'm curious why the SMB game that comes with the device uses the entire screen, but your emulator seems to use a window of the screen. I'm assuming the emulator is just doing a 1:1 rendering, so that begs the question what they did to SMB that is causing it to render to the entire LCD?
2 likesReplies (1)
It's likely that Nintendo modified the original super mario bros rom to fit the aspect ratio of the game & watch.
0 likesso cool! good luck with your progress!
0 likesAmazing work.
0 likesThe reason SMB3 has that glitch on the bottom at the title screen is do to timing cycles.
0 likesThank you Sir!
So coooool ! I think I've found my christmas gift... The only thing missing is WiFi but it seems to have enough room for an ESP !
6 likes2D All-Stars and full Game and Watch collection would be sweet.
0 likesFor the one with the pin header maybe it is a idea to add a small Micro switch to disable the battery?
0 likesLoving the new upload schedule!
5 likesAwesome work!
0 likesGiven the LCD is 320x240 Sega Genesis emulation would fit nicely. Mapping 3 button to the 2 main one available might be kludgy but a lot of games really only need 2. I know the STM chip has data lines for an SD card too. I wonder if along with a larger SPI flash we couldn’t also get limitless storage space and turn this into the ultimate portable device...
0 likesHow hard would it be to write a Game and Watch emulator hosted on 64 bit PCs? Given how much you guys already know about the hardware, would that be feasible? Seems like it would be a good way for devs to test their programs quicker
0 likesWoah, 16 MB storage,sounds ambitious~!
0 likesYeah, I'm loving this, a lot. But I'm wondering if it can be cloned...
0 likesAs soon as a saw Mario Bros. 3, I lost it. It’s the one thing I think Nintendo should’ve included on the stock Game & Watch
1 likeI'd be excited if all G&W games become accessible. At least the one screen games.
0 likesMaybe possible to 3d print the back case with a port added so you don't have to take the device apart?
0 likesSo for 60 dollars we got a NES classic with a pretty decent selection of games and an easy way to add more to your hearts content.
0 likesFor 50 dollars you get a mobile version of Mario or Zelda and as a sweetener they tossed in a clock app.
Makes perfect sense to me.
Would be awesome if the game and watch emulator was working on this game and watch.
0 likesI was thinking it should be fairly easy to rewire that SPI flash chip for use with an SD card slot, maybe even use both if there's a spare pin that can be used for CS. I'm really wondering if it's worth trying to get my hands on one of these to implement... looks like Bestbuy is sold out though.
0 likeslike others have said, let's get all the original G&W games running on this thing!
0 likesWhy replace SPI flash with a bigger one ?
0 likesJust make:
- external pinout, like you did for SWD;
- small PCB for SPI Flash ROM;
- 3D printed case for SPI flash;
and now you have a cartridge for Game&Watch!!
If I was going to mod this, I’d want to fill it with actual Game & Watch roms.
0 likesIt would be great a Game Boy Color emulator to add Game & Watch Vol 1, 2 & 3
0 likesVery cool! But I'm too dumb to do any of this stuff, so I'll wait until it's more accessible to hack mine.
0 likesAmazing! Thank you.
0 likesThis is WAY out of my league. Cool stuff though! 🤘
0 likesLooks like this might be my reason to open mine!
0 likesSo I have an STLink V2 leftover from my 3D printer modifications, would it still work at programming the Game & Watch despite its disadvantages?
2 likesReplies (1)
Yeah it should work. I've been using one of these and it's worked out quite well. It's a bit slow but that's fine. The reset issue is just inconvenient, not a problem. EDIT: If it's one of the clones, they may not always work 100% reliably, glitch, cause random issues. An official ST-Link is better, or use a J-Link Edu Mini.
0 likesthanks for your work man
0 likesHow about hardware mod to connect to the usb-c port as a connection.
1 likeBy the way. Thank you for your hard work!!!
Are there any plans for an SD Card mod? Ever since Ben Heck accidentally created an SD Card slot on the device it made me wonder if it's possible?
0 likesI have some game and watchs from 90s . Nice to know this . 👍👍🤤
0 likesSpeaking of Linux, is there a distro that would work (and/or work well) on the G&W's limited hardware?
0 likesReplies (2)
As it’s an M7 it doesn’t have an MMU the only option would be uClinux, I don’t think it makes sense to port that 😀
1 like@stacksmashing Well, sure, it wouldn't be particularly useful, but "could you?" and "should you?" are two very different questions... Not that I'd be willing to do such a thing, personally. Thanks for the response.
0 likesEven if I could load up like 20 NES games and a handful of gameboy games I would be thrilled
0 likesGreat job!!!
0 likesI actually had a dream that someone would do this
0 likesIs it possible to add it as variant for ST core in Arduino IDE?
0 likesOr add SdCard instead of spi memory?
I would like more details how the actual read out of the STM32 flash is done.
0 likesSo my question is if you could load other mario-based games without having to flash an emulator on. For example, could I load the SMB1 romhack "Super Mario Bros Special for NES" over the top of Ball?
0 likesMy goal is making a nintendo clock using the game and watch rom. I just think it would be neat.
2 likesReplies (2)
For sure, go for it! Also add an alarm clock please 🙂
2 likes@stacksmashing That might be outside my skills, But why not?
1 likeOk, you convinced me. Im getting one.
7 likesThis console will be hardware modded to the bone😀. Ad storage, ad external controller ports, ad HDMI-out, let’s do it, complete consolization😂😂😂🙏
0 likesI just want to see more G&W recreations on it, like Ball. :)
4 likesReplies (3)
Wait, what?
0 likes@dronesflier It comes with SMB, SMB2J, and a recreation of Ball.
0 likes@Emmett Turner Oh, I meant is as a joke because ball is already on the system ;)
1 likeWould love to see "Super Mario Bros.: Peach Edition ROM hack" support. Would make a great mod for my daughter!
0 likesYeah, I'm gonna appropriate my Game & Watch "the Famicom" with tons of Famicom ROMs 👍
11 likesReplies (3)
Can it run 7 Grand Dad?
0 likes@MαtiYT Popin (aka. Player523) there is a rom with only 7 grand dad so yeah I put it on my NES classic so it should be able to be used on here
0 likesBruh a portable famicom/NES wouldve sold hot cakes if they kept selling the nes classic
2 likesi think windows 10 users can use the windows subsystem for Linix which gives you linux capabilities under Widnows
0 likesAre there any pins in the charger that you can reroute the debug pins to?
1 likewhat is the size of the flash memory in this?
0 likesI would love it if they found a way to just put all the nes Mario games on this & Game & watch games
0 likesI swear this thing will legit be running doom at full speed at one point, would be pretty poggies
0 likesNice work! :)
0 likesThis is the real smart watch you would want to carry on your wrist!
0 likesWould it be possible to replace the SPI flash with an SD card and access it in SPI mode? then the contents could be easily interchanged/deployed in the future...
0 likesNice work 😉👍
0 likesThis is amazing work, but I am happy to keep it as it is.
0 likestruly delicious work people!!! serious skills 💪💪💪🍻🍻🍻
0 likesI kind of want one of these now.
0 likesthis PCB looks fairly simple.
0 likesHow possible is that there would exist an open hardware clone given that firmware dumps already exist?
Don't forget the SD card support for people who
1 likeaccidentally cut their programming pin hole on the wrong side of the shelltotally intended to cut a second hole for the SD card. 😋Replies (1)
😂😂😂 oops :)
0 likesHey dude. Just to be clear. I have no plans to do content on this. I'm just learning and having fun. Feel free to use any of my stuff from github. I'll have no hard feelings if you choose not to. It's totally up to you. The reason I put an MIT license on the repo is just to say 'no warranty.' As far as I'm concerned it is a 'do whatever the eff you want with it - license.'

Any update on a more accessible version?
1 likeHow about making a J2ME KVM for it so we can run all the old MIDlet games that used to run on the old cellphones? :)
0 likesWhat are the specs of this? I'm really curious?
0 likesI have a Nintendo DS and Nintendo 64 with homebrew and I know the specs of those but, not of this?
How many megabytes of space? How much RAM? How much VRAM?

Check the first video, hardware is explained there
1 like@stacksmashing Thanks
0 likesI want one with the gameboy game and watch series.
0 likesBut can you emulate OG game & watch games?!
0 likesI wont be satisfied until theres a way to link these together, and play the 2 player boxing game. That was the best game and watch.
What's the reasoning behind porting your own NES emulator instead of just replacing the ROM on the existing one, and removing whatever alterations it makes to the ROM on the fly?
0 likesI do notice some weird flickering on the NES, like for SMB3.
Replies (1)
Much easier to port (and legally far better) than to reverse engineer the integrated emu and then finding out it doesn’t support certain things etc
0 likesPlease replace the spi flash with an sd card socket as Ben Heck did! that'll be a breeze for most people.
0 likesi dream one day nintendo change his mind and open the consoles... Also mario kart on pc please !
0 likesIf only it were this easy to run homebrew on Nintendo's other 2020 handhelds! :P
4 likesReplies (2)
What other 2020 handhelds?
7 likesMaybe he's from the future....
1 likeIs this worth getting? I saw one for $50 on Amazon, how many nes roms can fit via this method? Also where do I get the ST debugger/cables?
0 likesReplies (1)
well i can tell you that this is more of a device for messing around with making your own homebrew, the game and watch only has 1.1mb of flash memory on it so it could fit 1 bigger nes rom or around 10 smaller ones, and that's best case scenario. but if you still decide to go with it, a good source for the swd programmers is ebay, the j-link (the one he uses) is around 10 USD, but you can get a cheaper st-link knockoff (the orangeish yellowish one he shows off) for around 3usd, and the test clips (the one on the left in the video) are about 5-10 USD, while the soldering on wires approach is pretty much free if you strip some random cable for the wires, but its also harder to take off later if you want to.
0 likesHonestly, I just want to swap the Zelda 1 and 2 roms with Zelda ages and seasons roms on my loz game and watch
0 likesNintendo could make so much money selling blank handhelds for ROM use. I know they don't like ROMs, but at least they could still make money off of them that way.
0 likesGrandioso 👍
1 likeThis advance very well
0 likesNext: Only plug and modify
Interesting but a little complicated for what I need :(
0 likesGreat job . 👍👍👍👍👍👍
0 likesthe only thing that would be worthwhile playing on this tiny thing, would be emulations of all of the original game and watches (minus the dual screen ones). which, honestly, would be really cool of nintendo themselves to release, but they'll never do that because they never do something actually cool like that. they totally should release one game and watch device that emulates as many of the originals as possible.
0 likeson top of that, this one shouldn't have had an emulation of Ball with mario on it. it SHOULD have had an emulation of the "super mario bros" game and watch, since it was for mario's 35th anniversary. the super mario bros game and watch game was probably one of the best of all game and watches and was actually pretty fun. WHY oh why they chose to do fricking BALL instead of that one. only the people at nintendo could ever explain.
You can use the JTAG port to restore a firmware backup no matter what barring hardware damage, right? So no need to worry about bricks when messing with firmware?

0 likesI absolutely admire what is being done here but I can't help but wonder - why?
0 likesClearly this is an extremely low key piece of hardware.

These will work fine, at least they did for me. I have been using these kind of probes with the G&W and the only issue is the reset line which is just an annoyance. It will still work. EDIT: However, they may not always work 100% reliably, glitch, cause random issues. An official ST-Link is better, or use a J-Link Edu Mini.

Not a user friendly hack, being that it can only be through debug and no USB for data transfer, Id buy another unit and go through the effort as long as I could throw a NES/GB/GG emulator with a few games. Otherwise, you would be spending alot of time, effort and money to flash a single game or 2 on there.
0 likesI'll do this once I get the tools to do it. Broke is broke lol.
0 likesif that microcontroller supports USB 2.0 would it not be fairly easy to connect it to the data pins of the USB connector and get some kind of flashing working that way as well?
0 likesReplies (1)
It still requires a hardware modification which raises the bar, but yeah you could probably do that. The USB pins are used for the LCD as well, that might be an issue. I haven't tried to use USB yet but it's worth trying out. There is a built in PHY that would give you FS, i.e. 12Mb/s. That's fast enough for this.
0 likesUnlike the NES Mini and SNES Mini, they've made it too difficult for the average user to hack this console.

0 likesNintendo are NOT ALLOWED to release a NES Emulator according to the Gentleman's Agreement and also Licensing Deals. But like the early Nintendo DS, unofficial hacks are unofficially allowed.
0 likesMoney Laundering, Bookcooking, Trade Quota, and so on.

2 likes@Why? Well actually I like the original look and programing of it. However, I'd totally gut an original Gameboy Advance for ROMs & such. The design on those looked about 5 years too late. 😅
0 likes@MegaMan X I was just saying that since your profile name is “Mega Man X” and SNES and DOS are the only two consoles that can play X that I can somewhat see running on this.
0 likes@Why? I think only NES games will work on this hardware. It's very limited according to the other 2 breakdowns he has done of it so far. It's basically a mini Nintendo with the screen and controller all in one unit. 😅

@Mr. Peanut Agreed. And Nintendo could even sell the ROM images for $5 for people who don't want to pirate. But no. Nintendo has stupid policies of getting butt-hurt about everything.
2 likes@Robin Browne Actually they did/tried that on the Wii & WiiU, but I don't think they sold those old games that much on there charging $5 a pop. The Nintendo Switch has now just bundled a lot of the NES & SNES games onto official emulators that you can play when you get a Nintendo Online subscription for $20 a year. So they're learning! 😅

0 likesWaiting for new version game & watch DUAL SCREEN whit emulateur ?
0 likesCan't you just inject ROMs and use the official emulator? Can't stand these half ass homebrew emulators like pocket nes and dsnes. The end goal should be near perfect emulation of NES games on this device. It has a classic NES D-pad and a true 4:3 aspect ratio for once. It blows away the GBA and DS for NES emulation. If possible, the ideal solution IMO is to allow for playing the ROM of your choice, using the official emulator.

Well yeh considering the cheap arm CPU on the board has to handle literally everything as it has no dedicated graphics hardware for crazy stuff

Because the creator doesn't know the law or something (I do)
0 likes@NCHLT Because copyright. Nintendo is a bitch when it comes to copyright.
0 likesThe buttons just kill it for me, too squishy.

0 likesNobody’s gonna do this too many parts and tinkering just make a software or something nobody’s reasonably gonna do all this when they can just buy a retro pi or just use browser emulators on their phones

It’s doable. We have a WIP emulator running. Lots of work left until it’s a great user experience, but it’s definitely doable.

0 likesSorry, but you're saying that's posible port this console to windows?
0 likesBruh hack the Type C so I don't have to open up the unit
0 likesReplies (3)
I don't understand why you can't use a secondary board to aid the Type C and inject ROMs/software via the Type C
0 likesthat is physically impossible. to do this you need to write directly to the flash memory on the cpu, the usb c port isn't connected to the cpu.
0 likes@Vin EuroDiesel Dead in the water. I bought the device hoping to hack it but it's far too in depth for me
0 likesSorry too complicated...do you think we will ever be able to add ROMs without buying all this stuff? if not I'm gonna sell this and buy a retroid mini. appreciate all your efforts though.

one day you might be able to make the usb c port actually connect to the cpu, best case scenario that will require a separate pcb to be soldered in to microscopic solder points. sorry man but this thing is never gonna be a simple hack.

Novelty.
0 likesIn fact the whole thing is basically just novelty. You can have a clock, a G&W emulator and an NES emulator on your phone and it'll be basically the same thing.
